Lodge 49 Milwaukee, Wisconsin Loyal Order of Moose Women of the Moose Chapter 345 Moose Legion 31 1914-2016 102 years, Vol 102-4 “ Th e M es s e ng e r ” Ju ly/Au g u st, 2 0 1 6 A D M I N I S T R AT O R ’ S N O T E of the Moose and our growing need for our Lodges and Chapters. Talk up Moose with your friends and Bob Pfeiffer neighbors. Remember, we not only Administrator support Mooseheart, Moosehaven, but our local community through donations! Do you ride a motorcycle or know Moose members who do? We are interested in starting a Moose Riders Group. You don’t have to have a motorcycle to join. Muskego, Racine and Kenosha have riders. Join other members in doing poker runs and raise money for the Lodge or Charities. Be sure to check the calendar on page 3 for times and all activities taking place at our Lodge! The Board of Officers, at their May meeting, made several changes to Lodge Operations (specifically regarding our meals.) During the months of July and August, the Lodge will be CLOSED the first, fourth, and fifth Wednesdays of the month. The Lodge will also be closed on Saturday (July 2nd) before the 4th of July.) We realize that everyone is busy during these summer months and our attendance at the dinners on Wednesday has declined. While speaking of our dinners, please always make sure you call the Lodge Office and make reservations for dinners. We order and prepare the food based on the number of reservations received. “Moose Raise The Roof” Membership Campaign will run from May 1, 2016 thru April 30, 2017. This campaign will focus on the core values Fraternally, Bob Pfeiffer, Administrator We are here for Mooseheart and Moosehaven! A SPECIAL THANK YOU from Basil G. Tsetsas to Herman Bednarz & Curt Staszak for helping with the cosmetic changes we made to the Lodge Social Quarters. Your fine knowledge and craftsmanship, along with your professional skills, helped put the finishing touches on our project when it was completed. By the way, stop in for a meal on Wednesday, or try our Friday Fish Fry and look everything over. Your comments or suggestions are appreciated. THANK YOU again, gentlemen! As your new Governor, I want to start out with some very important THANKS to Keith Balash and his Board of Officers for leading us through some trying and demanding times the past two years. Everyone worked hard and coped with some difficult situations. I’d like to thank Herman Bednarz, Curt Staszak Bob Owen and Basil Tsetsas for remodeling in the Social Quarters. It Governor brightens up the place, looks great and brings us a ‘fresh, new look.’ Good job, guys! Soon, new carpeting will be installed in that same area too, and we look forward to that! Again, special THANKS to Curt Staszak for the handmade Moose Planters located just outside the Lodge entrance by the door facing north. Check them out, they really add a special touch during this Summer Season. For anyone interested, we will be raffling off a Moose Planter—just see anyone of our Officers. Next, there are no words and a THANK YOU just does not seem enough for the treasure of volunteers, who we hold in high esteem. There is no way to fully express their worth, for without them, our Lodge could not function. To each and every volunteer, THANK YOU! Please welcome our new Board of Officers. With declining memberships and finances, we all have a difficult task ahead of us and we’ll need all your support! Lastly, during my term as Governor, I want to say we must improve the morale at our Lodge. We are here to socialize, not criticize. Let’s get back to having fun and enjoy each other’s friendships. Let’s greet fellow members and welcome the new; and let’s all try to refrain from negativity in our Moose home. My sincere thanks to all of you for your support and participation at all our events and activities within the Lodge. We have a wonderful group of bands and events for July and August. Be sure to check out pages 10 & 11 of this Moose Messenger for details. And remember, always make reservations for dining at our Lodge. Have a safe, fun-filled, enjoyable summer! The “Second Degree” or Moose Legion, was established to provide greater opportunities for Lodge members to serve the Lodge and Fraternity. The Moose Legion remains a strong and growing arm of the Loyal Order of Moose. It is comprised of thousands of Moose members in every state and province who desire to elevate their service and leadership skills in their Lodge and Moose Legion jurisdiction. It is also a forum for members to direct and lead special programs that support the fraternity’s three basic missions: Community Service Programs, Mooseheart and Moosehaven. For more information or questions, see Noel Gajewski. all members welcome State Drawing Sept 17 1916-2016 Live Music Friday & Saturday Moose Legion Eligibility Eligibility for Moose Legion Membership has changed. Because our chair for Senior Regent is vacant, I, as your Jr. Grad Regent, will continue to do the Chapter Chatter for the Messenger due to our vacancies on the Board. I’d like to THANK all our volunteers who helped at our Rummage Sale. We all tried our best to make it a success. We will be planning on a new fundraiser for next year. Again, THANK YOU Volunteers! Thousands of Moose members will descend upon the “Gateway to the West,” St. Louis, Missouri, over the first weekend in July for what should be an entertaining and informative 2016 International Moose Convention. Our Chapter 345 member, Sharon Pizur will be receiving her College Degree at this Convention. Kudos Sharon! I, too, am planning on attending this exciting event and meeting members from all over the world. Moose-Fest will be held on July 30th. The hall opens at 3:00pm and games start at 3:30. Our scrumptious Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner starts at 5:00pm until it is sold out. We can always use volunteers for this event. If interested, please let us know. In closing, why not think about attending one of our meetings. Check out the calendar on Page 3; it lists when we meet. We really would like you to join us. As always, we look forward to your comments and suggestions. Remember, we are here for Mooseheart, Moosehaven, and Moose Charities! OUR COLORS NEVER FADE HOORAY FOR THE RED WHITE & BLUE! Today a man knocked on my door and asked for a small donation towards the local swimming pool, so I gave him a glass of water! I find it ironic that the colors red, white, and blue stand for freedom— until they’re flashing behind you! I hate it when people use big words just to make themselves sound perspicacious! Hospitality is the art of making guests feel like they’re at home when you wish they were. Keep Saving Those Labels!!! I changed my password to “incorrect,” so whenever I forget it, the computer will say, “Your password is incorrect!” Save your labels and box tops and drop them off at the Chapter Office. We, in turn, send them to Moose Charities, who sends them on to General Mills. General Mills then sends a check to Mooseheart Schools to help purchase supplies and equipment. Artificial intelligence is not a match for natural stupidity. Ever stop to think and forget to start again? 7 SUMMERTIME DINING AT THE LODGE Due to members heading up north, vacationing, or just being too darn busy during the months of July and August, WE HAVE DECIDED, THE LODGE WILL BE CLOSED The Tommy Moose Program is easily one of the most successful Community Service out-reach programs in the history of the Loyal Order of Moose. Its success lies in its simple message and uncomplicated structure. Since 2003, Moose Lodges and Chapters across the U.S. and Canada have purchased over 100,000 Tommy Moose plush animals and presented them to Police, Fire, and other Emergency Workers, to be carried in their vehicles. The Tommy Moose stuffed animals are given to children who have been encountered during stressful or traumatic situations, calming them and giving them a soothing object to refocus their attention toward, while emergency aid takes place. Two dozen “Tommy Moose” have been purchased and given to Ryan Balash, Firefighter, to be given to children in distressed situations. ON THE FIRST, FOURTH, & FIFTH WEDNESDAYS IN JULY & AUGUST. Our Lodge is always looking for volunteers for a number of things do. If each member could help out just a few times a year, it sure wouldn’t ‘burn out’ other members who are here all the time. We certainly could use help around and in the Lodge; whether it be for maintenance, office work, helping out with the kid’s parties, etc., think about offering your time. We could use you. Make a promise to yourself to volunteer at least once this year, then do it! Never forget that many hands make lighter work for everyone! Did I Read That Sign Right??? In An Office: Would the person who took the step ladder yesterday please bring it back or further steps will be taken. On A Repair Shop Door: We can repair anything. (Please knock hard on the door—the bell doesn’t work.) Birthday Dinners Question: Who may come to a birthday dinner at the Moose Lodge and do you need an invitation letter to attend? Answer: It is true that for the month of your birthday, you will receive a letter inviting you to a “FREE” birthday dinner. You may also bring your guests at the normal price of the dinner. However, if the member’s birthday is not in that month, you may still come but all meals must be paid for and you must make a reservation in advance. Planning A Party And Don’t Know Where To Have It? How Are You Feeling? If you or someone in your family or circle of friends is about to have a party soon, you will be in need of a nice affordable hall. Consider having your celebration in the Milwaukee Moose Lodge 49 hall. Our hall is very attractive and can be decorated. It can hold 50-225 guests easily. There is a rental charge that includes clean-up. We also offer in-house catering service with attractive menus and prices. For more details, please call the Lodge Office between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm at 414-281-4444. If you or a Brother Moose Member is sick, hospitalized or distressed, please notify the Lodge. A “Get Well” card will be sent to the sick or bed-ridden members. Also, with the approval of the patient, family and hospital staff, personal visits may be arranged. With the permission of the patient or sick person, the progress of their condition will be announced at the general membership meetings. Getting sick is no fun, so let us know when it happens so that we may send a little ray of sunshine on an otherwise grim situation. 12
