1. The Proposal
DAMn
As one of the official media partners of the Interieur
Biennial 2012, for the fourth time DAMN° magazine
will produce the essential free guide to an event that
expects to attract 90,000 visitors from 50 different
countries. Effectively and imaginatively linking the
activities on the Xpo fairground to the initiatives in the city of
Kortrijk, the guide reflects the Biennial’s emphasis on ‘change’ and

its desire to provide a ‘Biennial in the city, a city in the Biennial’. Focusing
on the business of design and its cultural context, the editorial approach

This freely distributed guide aims to bring together the people, places, products
and projects from the local and international design scene, animating the experience in print and online with articles ranging from Lowie Vermeersch’s journey from Pinifarina to the curatorship of Interieur; the exhibitors’ experience:
regular, returning and new exhibitors talk about the role of Interieur for their
companies/brands; the project room contributions from designers such as Ross
Lovegrove and Makkink & Bey; the way design translates on film, inspired by
a new documentary about Maarten Van Severen and his sons; and the various
projects that explore the mutual relationship between design and a city.

Besides the editorial content, the guide offers you the opportunity to communicate your own design story through advertising space and/or other tailormade solutions (advertorials, digital media link-ups etc) that highlight your
company news. With a print run of 50.000 copies, the A5 guide is highly
visible and will be available to all professional and public visitors/exhibitors
at key locations on the fairground and at various hotspots throughout the city,
major design stores in Belgium, hotels, galleries, Interieur’s pop-up bistro and
other relevant outlets outside of Kortrijk. As has previously been the case,
quite simply, the guide will be everywhere.

3. Content
A city in the biennial
1. New horizons: Local – regional – global
Interview with Lowie Vermeersch, curator of Interieur 2012 and chairman of the
non-profit Interieur Foundation. The former chief designer and design director
of Pininfarina, who has recently set up his own design consultancy granstudio,
outlines his professional & personal visions on the designed world.
2. Ch-ch-changes
New initiatives at Interieur + special features: project rooms (Ross Lovegrove,
Greg Lynn, Makkink & Bey, Muller Van Severen, Troika ao), design award winners, talks, and other special projects
3. All’s fair: why Interieur?
Q&A with selected exhibitors that represent those who are regular attendees,
those returning to the fair, and first-time exhibitors.
4. Design on film
Interieur 2012 sees the premiere of Addicted to Every Possibility, Pain Perdu’s
documentary of the late Belgian designer Maarten Van Severen. DAMn° takes a
look at how design translates in the world of film.

A biennial in the city
1. Q&A with organizers/hosts of the Interieur events in the city: Budacentrum/
fabriek director /de Invasie/Organisation in Design - how to make a city more
than a temporary backdrop?
2. INTERIEURcity: focus on workshop* that examines Interieur’s potential to
offer ‘a form of micro-urbanism’ and explore the economy and impact of artistic interventions. A collaboration between Interieur & the Flemish Architecture
Institute, students/emerging designers from schools of interior architecture, design, architecture in Flanders and the Netherlands take part.
*The workshop is related to the ambitions laid out in the ViA Vlaanderen in Actie Plan, the Vokaplan
Kortrijk and by the Flemish Government Architect and seeks to engage with the initiatives of Designcity Kortrijk.
3. Map/pullout agenda section from the guide that will highlight the projects
taking place outside the Xpo grounds and form the Ventura Interieur and Interieur Extra route plus other special projects in the city.
