However, we still have many new and exciting opportunities to experience this year. I would like to introduce myself as the new Director of Membership Development. The Rockwall Area Chamber of Commerce is a forward thinking, dynamic and integral part of the business community. It is for these reasons, that I am proud to be a new addition to the Chamber. My family and I moved to the Rockwall area two years ago from Dallas. My daily commute to and from Addison each day, meant that I was spending precious time in the car instead of with my daughter. One of my greatest fears, was that she would not develop a bond with me because of my continuous absence. A personal day off of work allowed me the opportunity to stop by the Rockwall Area Chamber office and inquire about employment in Rockwall. I was made aware of the professional community in Rockwall, and the new direction the Chamber was taking to gain more knowledge and influence in business development. I was also impressed to find out that one of the goals of the Chamber was to stay abreast on Legislative decisions that affect the businesses in Rockwall. After talking with Chamber President Dana Macalik, I was interested in joining the team at the Chamber and have been extremely fortunate to have been given this opportunity. I would like to highlight our upcoming Texas A&M Professional Development Series that kicks off on March 10th and the topic is “Business Planning”. In this session you will gain a detailed understanding of the components for a business plan. For more information, please email me at [email protected]. Lastly, the Chamber has recently returned from Rockwall County Days to present the voice of our business community to our state legislators. There were 55 representatives from our Chamber that made the trip through the ice and snow to ensure that our legislators know what is important to our business community. 2015 will see the bar raised for the legislative voice of our business community to our local and state representatives’ look forward to working with all of our partners and to “Make every day extraordinary for business while maintaining the hometown feel.” John Dickson, Director of Membership Development IN THIS ISSUE LEADERSHIP PG 3 PARTNERSHIP PEN by John Dickson PG 4 BOARD OF DIRECTORS 2015 Board Announced PG 14-15 LEADERSHIP COMMUNITY PG 6-7 RIBBON CUTTINGS PG 8 EVENTS CALENDAR PG 7,9 NEWS & EVENTS PG 10 EVENTS HOT SPOT PG 11 EVENT HIGHLIGHTS INTEGRITY PG 5 LEGISLATIVE NEWS BALANCE PG 12 PARTNERSHIP New Partners SERVICE PG 12,13 AMBASSADORS PG 10 FEATURED AD PG 14 LEADERSHIP ROCKWALL BOARD OF DIRECTORS THE ROCKWALL AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ANNOUNCES 2015 BOARD OF DIRECTORS It is with great honor that the Chamber presents our 2015 Board of Directors. The group had meetings with State Senator Bob Hall and house Representative Scott Turner. Special guest Commissioner George P. Bush gave the group a General Land Office Tour and the group also toured the Texas Supreme Court with Justice Eva Guzman. The Rockwall Area Chamber is aware and connected to our State’s leadership. We want to stay abreast of the happenings in our Capitol so that we, as a Chamber, can be more helpful to our businesses and the laws that may affect them. The Summer of 2014 challenged me to do so. It changed how I perceive everything. So, I began to see my world through a lens of “Why?”. I would ask myself why I did everything from the food that I ate, to the clothes that I wear, to the organizations in which I am involved, to my role in the community. Through that process, the answers were enlightening. As the new Chairman of the Partnership Committee, once again, I asked, “Why are we here?”. I wanted to ensure that we were both effective and efficient. Fortunately, as the Board met this past Fall, we were asking the same question. Simply put, we came up with the purpose of the Partnership Committee: “To inspire relationships and business growth within the local community”. Our plan to accomplish this is to develop program and service offerings that will provide opportunities for us to connect, learn and prosper. In turn, our Partners will deepen relationships, grow their businesses and invite others to join in the growth. Be on the lookout for your opportunity to join in the growth! We will still utilize our normal opportunities for involvement through monthly Partnership Luncheons and Professional Development Wednesdays, Networking Meetings and Business After Hours. Changes are coming though! We are bringing back the Quarterly Partnership Breakfast, as well as developing new opportunities. We want to help our Partners deepen relationships and increase growth by offering cross-marketing/networking communities within expanded areas of focus. Professional Women, as well as Healthcare Related Businesses, are currently in rapid development. Furthermore, we are teaming up with the Downtown Merchants Association to further a “Shop Local” campaign. If you are interested in more information about these expanded areas of focus, please let us know. We want to plug you in. In Summary, the Business Partners of the Rockwall Area Chamber of Commerce are primed and ready for growth. The only things standing between your business and its maximum growth potential are air and opportunity. We are here to help you take that leap. LEADERSHIP ROCKWALL The Leadership Rockwall Class of 2015 attended the Rockwall County Days in Austin this past February. The group also gave a presentation to the Partners at the February Partners Luncheon. At the presentation, they were able to share the progress that the group has made for Meals on Wheels. Please watch for the article to follow in the April newsletter. LEADERSHIP Tim Nichols With State Representative Scott Turner and Congressman Bob Hall Experiencing Rockwall County Days By Tim Nichols, President of Nichols Wealth Management Growing up on a ranch in East Texas, wrestling 400 pound calves in order to hold them down and perform medical procedures encouraged a high level of involvement. You did not want to be caught standing around watching. You learned that there is strength in numbers, everyone has a role and your engagement is crucial. Learning from my Dad’s involvement with the Soil and Water Conservation of Texas Board of Directors, I went to Austin on a mission to discover how I could help. The Rockwall County Delegation got to hear from both Senator Bob Hall and Representative Scott Turner about legislation that can affect our County. The Texas Department of Public Safety, the Texas Association of Business and others shared their missions, objectives and progression as well. Our Leadership Rockwall 2015 class even got to meet with George P. Bush, Texas Land Commissioner and receive a tour of the General Land Office. Through my active participation in Rockwall County Days, I now have deeper personal and professional relationships with leaders from both Rockwall County and the State of Texas. From here, my plan is to jump in and get to work. I don’t want to be caught standing around and watching. Tim is the President of Nichols Wealth Management, and sits on the Rockwall Area Chamber’s Board of Directors.
