Heath to Host the U.S. Open Triathlon October 12;
Event includes USOT Collegiate Cup

Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Month
It will be an exciting morning on Sunday, October 12, when the cycling
portion of the U.S. Open Triathlon (USOT) presented by Pacific Sports comes
through Heath. The route is being finalized, and event organizers are taking
full advantage of the rolling and scenic terrain of our community.
“Heath and Rockwall will provide us a tremendous venue for the U.S. Open
Triathlon,” said Pacific Sports President Jack Caress. “It is important for the
future of this event to bring a triathlon that the Dallas Metroplex area can
be proud of and that we can build on.”
“We are very excited that the U.S. Open Triathlon will travel through the City
of Heath,” said Mayor Lorne Liechty. “This is consistent with the outdoor
recreational lifestyle enjoyed by so many of our residents and an excellent
opportunity to showcase our community on a national level.”
The event starts with a swim in Lake Ray Hubbard from the marina at
Rockwall Harbor. The bike course will travel through Heath and Rockwall,
and the run course will be in the Rockwall Harbor area with the finish
immediately adjacent to the Hilton.
It is anticipated that the race route will affect traffic in Heath from
approximately 9 to 11:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, October 12. The final
race route and alternate traffic routes for Heath residents will be included in
future newsletters and posted at www.heathtx.com as soon as they become
available.

proclaimed May as Motorcycle Safety and Awareness month in Heath
and urged citizens to be aware of motorcyclists and to give the riders the
respect and road they deserve. Accepting the proclamation was Mike
Rutter, a North Texas Safety Coordinator of the Texas Confederation of
Clubs and Independents.

Capital Improvement Plan Updates
Heath DPS Walks in Carry the Load,
Memorial Day Weekend
The Heath Department of Public Safety entered a Walking Team in Carry
the Load, an event that brings meaning to Memorial Day by honoring the
sacrifices made by members of the military, law enforcement officers,
firefighters and their families.
Carry The Load’s National Relay Team left West Point, crossed the country,
and came through Rockwall on the way to Dallas on Sunday, May 24 at 4 a.m.

Buffalo Creek Trail Repair is Complete!
FM 740 Widening Project – Phase 2 Underway
TxDOT has reported that the paving scope of work for the FM 740 South
widening project will begin in August 2014. The original start date was May
2014 with an anticipated 24-month construction schedule.
This second phase of the FM 740 project spans from FM 740/1140 to the FM
740/FM 1140/Hubbard Drive intersection. Utility relocations for this project
are now underway.
The FM 740 North project (Phase 1) spanned from Horizon Road in Rockwall
to FM 740/1140 in Heath and was completed in the Fall of 2012.
This year the Heath City Council approved a Capital Improvement Plan that
includes more than $20 million in investments that benefit the entire city. A

The relaxed, friendly environment, spicy cuisine and cool drinks are the
perfect antidote to a busy day. Better yet, plans are to move the fun outside
to a new patio where adults will get to enjoy music and a leisurely meal while
the kids play on a big grassy area stretching behind the restaurant.
“We opened the restaurant here because we love the City and want to grow
with Heath,” says owner Arturo Vazquez. “We enjoy creating a relationship
with the community and the customers we serve.”
Arturo and his partner, Pablo Llanito (above), have been in the restaurant
business for over 30 years and opened in Heath in 2012. Their menu features
classic favorites like tableside guacamole and fajitas plus modern adaptations
like Camarones ala Diabla (sautéed shrimp in a cascabel adobo sauce).
“We want people to know that they can count on us for their catering needs
as well,” noted Pablo, whose warm hospitality is a trademark of the local
business. “We hope to become more involved with Heath’s schools, churches
and other organizations.”
