Dilip Sahakari Two workshops were organized by the Goa State Centre of the Institution of Engineers (India) at MPT premises at Headland Sada Goa on 06/08/2014 and 08/08/2014. Topic was “Safe practices to be followed while working on electrical equipment.” Workshops were organized to share the knowledge of safety among practicing Engineers in Goa. Mr. Sakharam Singabal of MPT welcomed the gathering and informed the gathering regarding formalities of joining Institution and it`s working. Er. Dilip Sahakari convener of the program gave presentation on safety in high and low voltage engineering. Er. Sandip Phadke, AMIE, informed the gathering about the precautions to be taken while working in mines and first aid to be provided in case of electrocution. Mr. Sakharam Mhambrey, MIE, gave presentation on cable faults and cares to be taken during repair of cables. He also presented two case studies. Around 30 participants attended the workshop on both the days. Er. Dilip Sahakari proposed the vote of thanks. Name of Centre Goa State Centre Visit to Modern Jail Construction Site at Colvale, Goa Title of Activity: Activity under Divisional Board: Date: 09/08/2014 CIVIL ENGG DIVISION Venue: Modern Jail construction site at Colvale-Goa Model of Modern Jail Completed Block Visit to Modern Jail construction site at Colvale, Goa A Technical visit was organized by the Goa State Centre of the Institution of Engineers (India) on 09.08.2014 at the Modern Jail construction site at Colvale-Goa to share the knowledge of construction activities going around in the vicinity. Er. Anwar Khan of IEI welcomed the gathering at the site. Er. Jude A. D. Carvalho, with the help of the model explained in detail the concept of the modern Jail being built by Goa PWD at Colvale. On completion the Jail would be able to accommodate about 750 inmates. There is a special independent block for women convict. The premises include a workshop, bakery where acquits would be able to display their skills. There are four levels of securities which includes watch towers around the periphery. The presentation was followed by the site visit wherein all the participants could move to the execution site and got acquainted with the construction activities. The locking system was appreciated by the members. The members visited the individual cells built for convicts. Er. Minister for Health, Govt. of Goa garlanding the photo of Bharat Ratna Sir Makshagundam Visvesvaraya A view of the Audience The 47th Engineers’ day was celebrated by the Goa State Centre of the Institution of Engineers (India) on 20th September, 2014. Er. S.T. Nadkarni, Chairman, Goa State Centre, Institution of Engineers (India), welcomed the gathering and stressed a need for increasing membership and acquisition of suitable premises. While congratulating the Engineers on the 47th Engineers’ Day in commemoration of 154th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, Shri Laxmikant Y. Parsekar, Hon’ble Minister for Health, Govt. of Goa State called upon the Engineers to make use of the innovations available. He appreciated the activities carried out by the State Centre including the conduct of AMIE Examination and said that learning is a continuous process. He urged the Engineers from various sectors to imbibe the qualities of Bharat Ratna Sir M.V. Er. Rajan J. Bhatikar, an IIT Engineer was the keynote speaker who spoke on the theme “Making Indian Engineering World-Class”. While talking on the subject, he narrated his experiences during his career. He said that building world-class engineering capability is a continuous process and demands commitment for continuous learning by the Engineering Organization and its Employees. He put before the audience the various engineering aspects for making Indian Engineering World-Class which can make India a world leader in the Technology. A presentation by Bagalkot Cements detailing latest innovations in cement industry including use of slag cement was presented to the gathering by Shri Vinayak Koneri, Sr. Vice-President of Bagalkot Cements & Industries. Er. G.M. Naik Parrikar, Hon. Secretary, proposed vote of thanks. Er. Komala Soares compered the programme. The celebration was well attended by prominent Engineers from Government Departments, Private Sectors and Practicing Engineers. On this occasion eminent Engineer, Er. Ramchandra G. Deo, Consulting Engineer, & past Chairman of Goa State Centre, was felicitated at the hands of the Chief Guest, Shri Laxmikant Parsekar for the outstanding performance in engineering activities during his career. Name of Centre Goa State Centre Title of Activity: Bentley Structural Software– “STAADpro Building Solutions” Activity under Divisional Board: CIVIL ENGG DIVISION Date: Venue: Hotel Delmon, Panaji, Goa 09-10-2014 Mr. Hemant Vadalkar gave presentation Audience listening to the presentation A four hour workshop on Staadpro, Plan Win & STADD foundation was held on 09/10/2014 at Hotel Delmon, Panaji Goa. Speakers Mrs. Vadalkar, Mr. H. Vadalkar & Mr. Akshit Dhawan stressed on the use & benefits of the above Softwares to Consulting Civil Engineers. Topic was Bentley Structural Software – “STAADpro Building Solutions”. Workshop was organized to share the knowledge of software among practicing structural Engineers in Goa. Civil engineers, College Professors, Project Management Consultants numbering 54 in number participated. By using the above softwares how a practicing civil structural consultant can reduce his overall work in design, detail & drawing was neatly explained. The support as given Bentley was thoroughly explained in this workshop. Er. Yogesh Bhobe proposed the vote of thanks. Sharma (Scientist) Goa Chamber of Commerce & Industry, in association with The Institution of Engineers (India) Goa State Centre, is organizing an interactive talk on “Safety of Nuclear Power Plants” on Friday, 12th December 2014 at Chamber’s Surendrababu Timblo Hall, Panaji from 5.00 pm to 6.00 pm. Er. Rajan Bhatikar welcomed the gathering & introduced the Speaker the eminent Scientist Mr. P.D. Sharma. The talk was delivered by Mr. P.D. Sharma; Retired Distinguished Scientist and Sr. Executive Director (Projects & Procurement) Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. (NPCIL) - the only Indian enterprise authorized to design, build and operate Nuclear Power Plants in India. Mr. Sharma explained the needs of nuclear power plant & their contribution in the production of power. He stressed on their safety and what care is taken in their construction & subsequent commissioning. There was a good question & answer session with the engineers present. Er. Yogesh Bhobe, Hon. MPT , Head Land Sada, Goa Group photo of Members of IEI Goa State Center Seminar on “Electrical safety in LT Installations” A training session was organized by the Goa State Centre of the Institution of Engineers (India) at Training Center, MPT Head Land Sada Goa on 23/12/1014, to share the knowledge of safety among MPT Employees. Mr Dilip sahakari MIE, member of institution welcomed the gathering and informed the gathering regarding formalities of joining institution and it’s working. He also gave few tips on safety in vehicles and automobile batteries. Er. G. Dmello, FIE, Chairman and Sandip Phadke, AMIE gave presentation on the subject. They explained in details safety precautions to be taken in moving machinery, portable tools and domestic appliances. They also answered all the questions from delegates. Name of Centre: GOA STATE CENTRE Title of Activity: Lecture on “Bridge Engineering” Activity under Divisional Board: CIVIL Date: Venue: 10.01.2015 Hotel Fidalgo, Panaji - Goa Mr. Utpal Chakravati (Speakar) giving presentation on Bridge Engineering View of Audience JSW Steel Ltd, in association with The Institution of Engineers (India) Goa State Centre, is organizing an interactive talk on “Bridge Engineering” on Saturday, 10th January 2015 at Hotel Fidalgo, Panaji from 6.00 pm to 9.00 pm. Er. Gerard D`Mello welcomed the gathering & introduced the Speaker the Mr. Utpal Chakravarti. The talk was based on two bridges designed by M/s S. N. Bhobe and Associates Pvt. Ltd. One bridge that was presented had been executed by GSIDC in Goa called the Gaundalim bridge. A unique system of transportation of the bridge steel girders was shown in detailed to the gathered civil engineers. The speaker named this bridge as a bridge on wheels due to the fact that its main girder was first placed on a unique set of wheels that could turn in any direction. Another bridge designed by the same designers called the Mantralaya bridge in Maharashtra was also presented in this talk. The difficulties faced during execution were also showcased wherein the contractors had to withstand river floods in this project while construction was in full swing. Er. N. Parrikar and Er. B. Chodankar (Convenor) Chief Guest, Mr Navanath Vhatte, Associate Vice President, Pig Iron Division, Sesa Vedanta, addressing the gathering. The Institution of Engineers (India) Goa State Centre, organized a One day Seminar on “Welding” on Saturday, 24th January 2015 at Goa Science Center, Panaji from 10.00 am to 6.30 pm. Er. Gerard D`Mello welcomed the gathering and this was followed by presentation of a brief report of activities of the centre by the past secretary, Er. Gurunath Naik Parrikar . The chief guest for the function was Mr. Navanath Vhatte, Associate Vice President of Pig Iron Division, Sesa Vedanta Ltd. Er Balkrishna Chodankar, convenor of the event, proposed a vote of thanks. The seminar was well attended by 56 participants from a large number of industries and technical institutions from Goa. The topics covered during the seminar were as follows: (i) Introduction to welding technology and safety in welding (ii) Manual metal arc welding (iii) TIG, MIG, and MAG welding. (iv) Non destructive tests in welding. (v) Welding procedure specifications, Procedure qualification record & Welder performance qualifications. The seminar was well appreciated by the participants. Agra Club Agra Cantt Corporate Members of IEI Agra Local Centre sharing Holi greetings The Institution of Engineers (India) Agra local centre celebrated International Women’s Day and also Holi Milan in Agra Club on 08 Mar 2015. All executive and corporate members were invited with family for celebration followed by high tea. The function was attended by 31 members along with families. The function was inaugurated by Er. J.P. Sharma FIE, Chairman IEI Agra local centre. He highlighted the activities of Agra local centre and contribution of women engineers on activities of IEI. The Chairman also requested the members to educate their children as engineer sons and daughters equally to serve the nation. The function was conducted by Er. Umesh Chand Sharma MIE, Hon. Secretary and assisted by Er. Anurag Sharma Head of the department Computer Science and Engineering,FET Agra College Agra. The leady members also delivered their feeling about women’s Day and presented local songs. The family get together of corporate members was appreciated by all and enjoyed the function. Er. Umesh Chand Sharma Honorary Secretary gave vote of thanks to all members and their families for attending function. The event also published in local Hindi new papers and appreciated the efforts of Agra local centre.
