Successfully Educating All Students
It really is hard to believe that “fall” is just around the corner.!!!!
Hopefully, the children are settling in and adjusting to their new routines…..well,
we know that some will, and some take a longer time. Let me take this opportunity to reaffirm the
importance of teachers and to remind you all that we know that your jobs are demanding…………
but, ever so important.
Volume 6, Issue 2
2012
Inside this issue:
I offer a few quotes:
Education is a painful, continual and difficult work to be done in kindness, by watching, by warning,
by praise, but above all….by example. (John Ruskin)
If the child is not learning the way you are teaching, then you much teach in the way the child learns.
(Rita Dunn)
I put the relation of a fine teacher to a student just below the relation of a mother to a son. (Thomas
Wolfe)

Guiding Children’s Learning
Creative Curriculum for Preschool: Teaching Strategies Gold
~School Days In Head Start …
At LPHS we provide many opportunities for parents to become engaged and strengthen their role in
recognizing child growth.
Her e’s what we do :
Homework: Teachers send home practice work for the children to do with their parents/
guardian to reinforce lessons and each child’s school- readiness goals!
Special Events:
“Open House” – Parents are invited to visit and observe their child in the preschool setting,
and view their child’s portfolio, containing work samples that are all reflective of child growth
and progress!
Field Trips – Pumpkin Patch & Library visits are opportunities for parental involvement, too.
LPHS Classroom Environment:
All classrooms are very clean, attractive and reflective of school readiness! Visit them today, and
you’ll agree that every center is filled with books, toys, and materials that promote child development, growth, and learning! Also, teacher voice tones and verbal/interactions with the children are
pleasant and warm.

FIS Newsletter
October 2012:
How can you reflect on yourself, your work and the families you serve?
Working with families and young children is demanding, and setting aside time to think
about ourselves and our work can be difficult. Making choices about what to say to a
parent concerning an issue with her child or how to respond to a particular child’s
need may seem automatic, and in many ways it is. When one has substantial experience working with children and families it is natural to do what feels
right at the time. But an important part of the process of becoming
skilled as a professional is understanding why and how you make
the choices you do through reflection. Taking the time to look at
yourself and your work gives you the opportunity to acknowledge
strengths and challenges, and improve your skills.

Children who live apart from their fathers are more likely to be diagnosed with asthma
and experience an asthma-related emergency even after taking into account demographic and
socioeconomic conditions. Unmarried, cohabiting parents and unmarried parents living apart
are 1.76 and 2.61 times, respectively, more likely to have their child diagnosed
with asthma. Marital disruption after birth is associated with a 6-fold increase in
the likelihood a children will require an emergency room visit and 5-fold increase of an asthma-related emergency.
