The Home Page The Newsletter of the Lafourche Parish Public Library www.lafourche.org July 2013 Laura Sanders selected as Lafourche’s new library director A native of Oklahoma and longtime resident of Thibodaux, Laura Sanders is the Lafourche Parish Public Library’s new director. Previously, Sanders was a middle-school math teacher for 13 years, the last seven years at West Thibodaux Middle School. An avid reader from an early age, she decided to pursue a Master of Library and Information Science degree from Louisiana State University, from which she graduated in May 2012. She began working for the Lafourche Parish Public Library shortly afterwards, overseeing library branches in the Central Lafourche area. Sanders looks forward to leading the library system in its next phase of development, that of expanding library programming and collections. “We currently have extensive programs and collections of both print and digital media, and we are looking to increase both to better meet the growing needs and demands of our patrons and communities,” said Sanders. Library director Laura Sanders “My goals as director are to inspire lifelong learning, advance knowledge, enrich the lives of our patrons, and strengthen our communities.” “I look forward to working with staff and communities to continue to bring our libraries into the 21st century and to make them the heart of the communities in which they are located.” Sanders and her husband Bill have three children: Wil, 17; Ian, 14; and Addisyn, 5. The Library Board of Control appointed Sanders library director in May.
