Dear United Way Supporters, Volunteers and Friends:
It has been 15 years since the merger of the United Ways of Greater Durham,
Orange County and Wake County into one regional United Way. In 2009, with
the addition of United Way of Johnston County, we became United Way of the
Greater Triangle.
Our mission, To improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities,
remains strong. Our vision, All who need help find it, is upheld daily. Our
value proposition is United Way of the Greater Triangle is about:
Donating to United Way is a solid return on your investment of money and
time that:
• Benefits people you know
• Focuses on issues you care about
• Gets results in solving problems, and
• Makes a difference right here in the Triangle
With your continued support, we look forward to our next 15 years in helping
make our Triangle community a strong one.
Thank you for all you do for United Way of the Greater Triangle!
Sincerely,
John N. Anthony
Chair - UWGT Board of Director’s

The United Ways of
Greater Durham, Orange
County and Wake County
combined in one central
location and became
Triangle United Way. The
merger saved $100,000
in administrative costs,
increased fundraising
dollars and expanded
services to more people
in the Triangle.
15
With the 1998 merging
of the three communitybased information and
referral services in
Durham, Orange and
Wake counties, United
Way won the designation
for 2-1-1 as the number
to call region-wide for
information and referrals
to partner agencies.
Over 1,700 volunteers
participated in the very
first Martin Luther King Jr.
Day of Service helping to
make it “A day on, not a
day off.” Sixty community
projects were completed
in one day.
Triangle United Way
implemented a new issue
based funding system
to reduce duplication of
services, provide donors
with a more direct link to
services and strengthen
the Community Care Fund.
American Social Health
took over the 2-1-1 call
center which moved out of
the United Way offices and
into their own facility.
The Young Leaders Society
was created to foster
participation, commitment,
growth and education of
United Way’s young leaders
in order to further United
Way’s vision that, “All Who
Need Help Find It.”
United Way of the Greater
Triangle implemented Textto-Give allowing cell phone
users to text the word
“Triangle” to 50555 and
make a $10 donation. The
technology was first used
at the “Rise Up Raleigh”
benefit concert to help
victims of the tornados.

YEARS OF CARING
BRIDGING
THE
DIGITAL DIVIDE
www.unitedwaytriangle.org
Teaming for Technology
(T4T) began as an
AmeriCorps VISTA program
of Triangle United Way to
bridge the digital divide by
recycling and refurbishing
equipment to donate back
to the community. T4T
remains one of the largest
Microsoft authorized
refurbishers in the
southeast.
The African-American
Leadership Initiative
(AALI) was established to
honor African-American
philanthropy and help
members become more
involved with community
issues.
The Women’s Leadership
Council (WLC) was
formed to offer female
philanthropists an
opportunity to become
inspired by and engaged
in philanthropy and
community service.
United Way of Johnston
County merged with
Triangle United Way.
The regional United
Way changed its name
to United Way of the
Greater Triangle.
United Way of the Greater
Triangle website visitors
leaped 50% with the start
of our blog. Numbers
continued to climb for the
next six months and our
blog posts were recognized
and reposted by state,
regional and national
organizations.

United Way 2-1-1 is a single source for information about
community services and for referrals to health and human
service programs. Anyone can call 2-1-1 throughout most of the
counties in North Carolina, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to be
connected to a multitude of services. Bilingual caseworkers are
available during regular business hours.
Historically, Triangle residents have called Information and
Referral Services for many different types of help. Professional
caseworkers at United Way 2-1-1 help callers with complex
issues such as substance abuse, support groups, domestic
violence, financial assistance, day care, and much more. United
Way 2-1-1 caseworkers help callers find help or community
services in their area.

TEAMING FOR TECHNOLOGY
REFURBISHED COMPUTERS
Teaming for Technology (T4T) is dedicated to narrowing
the achievement gap by bridging the digital divide. To
support its mission, T4T provides refurbished computers
to schools, education supporting nonprofits and their
students.
T4T helps schools and non-profit agencies keep
expenses down by providing refurbished computers
loaded with Microsoft Windows XP Professional. Schools
and agencies request equipment through an online
application process and T4T prioritizes recipients based
on applications that will have the greatest impact
toward lessening the digital divide.

Volunteers help T4T prepare the equipment for a school or

clients, far less expensive than a comparable store bought
system.

Also in 2011, Teaming for Technology moved to a new
7,500 square foot facility at 5151 McCrimmon Parkway,
Suite 225, Morrisville, NC. to better serve its clients.
