They are earning the appreciation of the common man for their strong views, but are somehow hesitant to punish the top errant government officers and well established organizations. Frequently, courts are making strong observations and passing severe strictures, but they do not seem to be following it up with equally strong punishment to drive their message home. You can often see the trend of courts’ actions not matching their findings and that the big fish are being let off the hook with a reprimand, warning or just a token fine. ARTICLES Email Two very recent cases prove this point. One case pertains to the unconscionably long unexplained inaction by bureaucracy that was dealt with by the Madras High Court and reported only this week. The other case concerns the cricket IPL match fixing and betting that occupied centre stage in the Apex court last week. In the dock are the all powerful and rich BCCI and a Chennai headquartered big business house headed by the current President of BCCI. [email protected] The details of the first case are shocking. Uma, the petitioner was provisionally selected for the post of Police Sub Inspector in 2003 but was refused appointment in 2004 based on “her conduct not being satisfactory”. Uma challenged this order successfully before a single judge bench of Madras High Court, but the administration Jay Prakash. R (JP) did not act on the judgement or appeal against it. Uma was compelled to appeal against the Tamil Nadu Government. The Division Bench passed a similar order in 2012 and specifically asked the DGP to appoint Uma before December 2012 and depute her for training immediately thereafter. One year later, on 18th December 2013, the Government advocate informed the court that she would be recruited and sent for training only after the next recruitment which had not yet been notified. Apparently miffed by this outrageous defiance of court’s order and contempt shown to it, the Court asked three top officials of the Government to appear in person on 20th December 2013. This rattled the top brass who finally obeyed and the DGP issued orders the same day and sent her immediately for training on 20th December! The second case pertaining to the alleged betting and match fixing by the owners and players of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals in the IPL tournament is still in progress. Hence it may not be proper to comment on it in detail at this stage, when only interim orders have been issued. However experts say that the genesis of the case lies in the conf lict of interests when BCCI under a political President formally allowed the Corporate House owned by its key member (Secretary) to own an IPL team. This created an environment t similar to insider trading. Arm twisting, betting, and match fixing were only a step away, given the kinds of money that the IPL was handling through EDITOR - LOGUE management etc. From the observations made by the Apex Court Judges, based on the report of a committee formed by them, it appeared that at least CSK and RR would be suspended from the ensuing IPL 7 series. The next morning there were screaming headlines in newspapers, about how an astronomical loss of over Rs20,000 crores would be incurred if such an extreme action was taken. The court immediately stepped back and diluted its decision. It allowed the two tainted teams to continue and has appointed Sunil Gavaskar, the veteran cricketer and commentator, as interim Manager of IPL. After all Gavaskar too is a caged bird of BCCI in a sense. He may diplomatically carry out the tainted IPL management’s agenda without appearing to do so. The court was presumably doing what it believed was best for cricket. It has however missed the point that the original source of the said astronomical amount is the innocent gullible public watching the matches under the mistaken notion that IPL is a fair competition. Does the public not deserve justice and are they not entitled to be at least saved from being cheated again? But, Director liked her eyes a lot and changed the characterization to Malayalee girl and it has come out really well. She has lots of opportunities to perform in debut movie, which is rare in Tamil Cinema for heroine. It doesn’t look like her debut movie, as she has done the role with ease. Prashanth Narayanan – He has done the Villain role. His body language and voice were imitated like 1980’s Superstar and it has come out really well. Saleem Kumar – He is National Award Winning Malayalam Actor. He has got good characterization in the movie and has performed superbly. T Today I bring to you the last topic on soft skills. Attitude is EVERYTHING!! What is attitude? Attitude is the way you communicate your mood to others. Y o u can have a negative or a positive attitude; however, a Positive attitude brings cheerfulness, confidence and motivates you towards success. It is a fact that when you have a positive attitude, you become more successful and your life becomes happier. If you were to compare the success of two people with equal skill sets, qualification, the person with the better attitude for sure will be successful. Having and maintaining a positive attitude is vital for success in personal and professional life. That too taking scenes with moving vehicles in the night makes it much more tedious. He has taken up the challenges and given a product, which needs to be hugely appreciated. Editor Kishore has done wonderful job yet again. Art Director Santhanam needs special mention as it is a period movie and everything looked realistic. Director Krishna’s first movie was with the hottest couple in the industry in 2006 – Surya & Jothika. They got married 3 days after the release of this movie. Though the movie was not a blockbuster, even now people remember it for the songs & comedy scenes in the movie. Now, he has taken a movie with debutants and has succeeded completely in it. Though the story of the movie is as old as 1980’S movies, the screenplay & execution was too good. First 25 minutes of the refreshingly fun it is to be around positive thinking people? Don’t we all want a happy life? We all know that having a positive attitude feels better than a negative one. Negative attitudes come from negative thoughts that come from reactions to negative behaviour. Positive attitude is not inherited and it never comes automatically. You have to work hard at it! The environment, the society, the people we mingle with, will all have an inf luence on one’s attitude. I wish there was a magic formula that would erase our negative attitude and make us more positive. However, the following tips if you follow on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis, you can for sure have a positive attitude. 1. Focus on your thoughts: Our negative actions and words come from our negative thoughts. Our body, including the mouth, has no choice but to follow wherever our mind goes. As soon as a negative thought comes into your mind, purposefully make it a point to replace it with a positive one. 2. Don’t let other people's negative attitudes inf luence yours: Stop hanging around with people who are negative. We can't afford to have such friends when our goal is to become more positive. Just remember that birds of a feather really do f lock together. So stay away from negativity! Ignoring negative people doesn't mean you hate them. So the next time someone irritates you enough to tempt you to whack their head, walk away and MAIN TERA HERO U/A (HIN) OMR : 1:30 PM 7:20 PM VILLIVAKKAM : 4:00 PM movie proves the hardwork of the team. It has taken almost 2 years to complete this movie and they have to wait for a longer time to release the movie. Hardwork of the team is seen in each & every scene. Movie looks little dragging in the second half due to predictable story. There are lots of small twists throughout the movie to engage the audience. Climax of the movie may receive mixed response from the audience. Overall, Nedunchalai will give the audience, a feel of watching a realistic love story in 1980’s with wonderful Songs, BGM, Cinematography & Acting. Sathish Kumar www.facebook.com/Tamil.News.Reviews stay away. :-) 3.Understand that Things Won't Always Go as Planned : Though you may have spent a lot of time making plans, things sometimes don’t go as you expect. So be prepared for change of plans. Be open to try out things differently. 4. Take care of yourself: Exercise, eat healthy and practice relaxation techniques. When you are physically fit, you will feel more positive. 5. Read Positive and Inspiring Books : Take out time to read books that inspire you, that are positive as such books will keep your mind positive. 6. Be self conscious: During the day keep a check on your thoughts. Did you have any negative moments today? Or were you positive? If you are more tuned in and aware of your negative thoughts, you will learn to control / reduce it. 7. Positive affirmations: Encourage yourself with positive affirmations, write them down and read it aloud daily. Some examples are “ I have every bit as much brightness to offer the world as the next person”, “I love and approve of myself” , “I let go of my anger so I can see clearly”. This will help you stay positive. The real key is to change how we think, act / react. Remember, the body will follow wherever the mind goes. So, better practice on keeping yourself positive and have a happy life :-) "It is your attitude, not your aptitude that determines your altitude." Zig Zigler Hope this article has been useful. One version of the story goes like this. A magnificent white horse was spotted far away. Even at that distance it impressed spectators with its elegant gait. Everyone thought it was from the royal stable. The crowd of admirers grew larger and they longed to see its beauty at close quarters. They tried to excel one another in describing its beauty and majestic trot. As it came closer and closer, its elegance and attractiveness began to diminish. Even its ivory colour now seemed to fade into a pale gray. Disappointment writ large on their faces, the spectators decided to suspend their judgement till it came right up to them. As the horse trotted close enough for the crowds to see it at close quarters, the expectations and thrill had all but vanished. Then, to the horror of the crowds, the animal began to sing and its music was unbearable as it was braying in its inimitable voice. The entire crowd of admirers now pulled their hair in frustration. The creature was after all only a donkey! Orchestra by At that time the Anna movement split. Anna refused to rise to the bait and went back to his village. The more s o phi s t ic a te d Arvind Kejriwal defected and picked up the gauntlet and formed AAP. ‘AAP is different’, he claimed. “It was the common person’s party”. It was not his aim to capture political power. He merely wanted to fight corruption and bring into force the Jan Lokpal. E BL T The Horse that Became a Donkey! Unfortunately the story of Aam Admi Party threatens to end like grandma’s story. Initially, Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal had stood by their principles. Anna’s age and Arvind’s agility drew vast crowds in Delhi. They just wanted to fight corruption and they professed to have no political ambitions. Then the ruling government and its supporting parties scored a self goal. They heckled Anna and AK saying that they had no right to speak on behalf of the people and challenged them to get elected to parliament and raise issues. Arvind would sit in the Opposition. He was goaded to form the by the Congress Party’s unilateral support. After initially demonstrating his reluctance, he formed the Government. metaphors, AAP Government was formed without any ‘horse that time, the distant horse-the AAP animal-began to look less and more and more like something else. His party men and women though he was the CM, he wilfully sat in Dharna and cited the precedent of eight earlier Dharnas undertaken by other CMs. Like any other CM, AK immediately fell into the mould and went overboard with continual freebies of water and concessional electricity even to the undeserving to demonstrate his lightning performance. In short he ceased to be ‘different’. Since then there has been a sea change in AAP’s appearance and voice. Having joined politics, Arvind is now a complete politician, warts and all. His party too has desertions and corrupt members. Fresh rich entrants and their money are more than welcome. Old faithful are dispensable. A dinner party @ Rs. 20000 per plate was arranged in Bangalore to collect funds. AK has conveniently forgotten his basic objective. Like every other ‘polutician’, he likes to be a true Neta. Corruption is no more his prime agenda although sloganeering on corruption is. The aim is to cash in on goodwill to win as many Lok Sabha seats as possible. He is prepared to mouth any populist slogan to win votes. Aam Admi has vanished from his radar. He resorts to communal gimmicks like his dip in the sacred Ganga, the studied pause in his speeches during the prayer time of Muslims and his support to the Khap Panchayats in Haryana! This is nothing but the familiar vote bank politics practiced by other parties. RATE CARD C H E N N A I ' s F I R S T & O N LY C O R P 5 E ER in aid of AIL V SA ...
