With these outstanding successes behind him, Mr. Becker founded Becker Knife and Tool Corporation in the early 1980’s. Mr. Becker set about designing, manufacturing and selling the industrial-strength tactical and survival knives he had always wanted for himself. His Becker Knife and Tool (BK&T) products went a long way to making those now popular black knives acceptable. #BK11CSM The Becker Necker sheath is designed to work with the TDI Metal Clip, #1480CLIP. 9 Mr. Becker spends as much time as possible in the outdoors testing a variety of his equipment and knife designs, and also works to expand his primitive and outdoor skills. He is also an avid reader of history and the humanities, and enjoys martial arts and hunting. #BK2 #BK7 #BK9 Mr. Becker is very happy that he appointed Ka-Bar the new manufacturer of five of his best selling models, all introduced this year and brought up do date and approved by Becker. 10 • 2009 Catalog Readers 12/21/08 10:42 PM Page 13 • #5013 Full Size Desert, straight edge, with hard plastic desert sheath • #5014 Full Size Desert, serrated, with hard plastic desert sheath* Multiple blade shapes, lengths, edge options and sheath styles guarantee there is a knife to serve every need. • #5011 Full Size Foliage Green, straight edge, with hard plastic green sheath* • #5012 Full Size Foliage Green, serrated, with hard plastic green sheath* • #1254 Short Tanto, straight edge, leather sheath* #5054 with hard plastic sheath • #1255 Short Tanto, serrated, leather sheath* #5055 with hard plastic sheath* #1211 11 * Clampack available for these items: order item number followed by “CP”. • #1211 Full Size Black KA-BAR, straight edge, leather sheath* #1213 with hard plastic sheath* • #1212 Full Size Black KA-BAR, serrated, leather sheath* #1214 with hard plastic sheath* • #1256 Short KA-BAR, straight edge, leather sheath* #1258 with hard plastic sheath* • #1257 Short KA-BAR, serrated, leather sheath* #1259 with hard plastic sheath* #1255 12 • 2009 Catalog Readers 12/21/08 10:42 PM Page 15 Unique blade shape and steels offer versatility. #1245 • #1245 Tanto serrated, hard plastic sheath ✽ ✽ Clampack available for these items: order item number followed by “CP”. #1271 Next Generation Knives • #1221 serrated, hard plastic sheath #1223 with leather sheath • #1222 straight edge, hard plastic sheath #1224 with leather sheath D2 Extreme Knives • #1281 with nylon/Cordura® KA-BAR/Eagle sheath #1282 with hard plastic sheath #1283 with black leather sheath • #1271 Fighter serrated, leather/Cordura® combination sheath #1222 #1281 13 14 • 2009 Catalog Readers 12/21/08 10:42 PM Page 17 These heavy knives with oversized blades will make light work of outdoor chores. Paul Tsujimoto, KA-BAR Knives Formally educated in Industrial Technology, Paul Tsujimoto has always had a passion for the science behind the way things work. Combine his engineering background with an affinity for the martial arts, swords, and knives as a whole, and you have the prerequisites for a very talented knife designer. It was a position he accepted readily as he knew it would gain him a foothold in the industry for which he was most passionate – knife making. His tenure at Camillus lasted three years before he took a job with Ontario Knife Company, a competitive manufacturer. As the Engineering and Quality Manager at Ontario, Mr. Tsujimoto worked closely with the Sales and Marketing Department to design and implement production of several of the company’s most successful products. In 1997, after six years with Ontario Knife, Mr. Tsujimoto, accepted a position with CUTCO Cutlery Corporation, KA-BAR’S sister company. He split his time there between CUTCO and KA-BAR projects. As KA-BAR’S business began to grow, the need for a full -time Quality and Product Development Engineer became obvious. At the end of 2006, Mr. Tsujimoto transferred full-time to KA-BAR Knives. Cutlass Machete • #1248 straight edge, leather/Cordura® combination sheath You can see Mr. Tsujimoto’s influence on several of the KA-BAR products. His work on the Heavy Bowies, MULE Folders and Warthogs is apparent. Mr. Tsujimoto also works closely with all of KA-BAR’S other designers to help fine-tune their designs and make them as efficient to manufacture as possible. #1249 15 #1277 16 • 2009 Catalog Readers 12/21/08 10:42 PM Page 19 Some of the best buys on the market. Bobcat Dozier Folders - New! • #4080 straight edge #4081 serrated Bull Dozier Fixed Blade • #1275 straight edge, hard plastic sheath Bob Dozier, Bob Dozier Knives Large Dozier Folding Hunter • #4070 straight edge, thumb stud • #4071 straight edge, hole in blade Bob Dozier’s interest in knife making began when he was just a boy, learning from his grandfather how to forge files and springs into useable knives. For many years as a young man, he sold his handmade knives in his home state of Louisiana to hunters who appreciated his pieces for their hardness and edge holding ability. Mr. Dozier continued making knives throughout the 1960’s, ever striving to reach for new levels of fit and finish in his work. By 1971 Mr. Dozier’s work was recognized as some of the best and he was asked to work with A.G. Russell, prominent knife dealer, to help save the Morseth Knife Company from extinction. The next three years proved to be both invaluable and incredibly taxing. While much was learned about his craft during that period, Mr. Dozier eventually experienced “burnout” and went back to his job as an ironworker. He traveled the eastern half of the United States and carried with him his knife making equipment, managing to make a few dozen knives per year in his spare time. Many years later, after a short return to making Morseth knives for A.G. Russell, Mr. Dozier started up/opened/founded Bob Dozier Knives, making fine handmade pieces he sold at shows, via internet, and through dealers. #4080 #4070 Thirty years after Mr. Dozier first started making knives in a manufacturing setting, he came to KA-BAR with a large side lock folding knife prototype he suggested the company consider for mass production. Working with KA-BAR’s team to modify the knife design and make it practical for large scale production, the Dozier Thorn was finalized for sale at the end of 2001 and introduced to the world in 2002. Today, KA-BAR offers eighteen Dozier designed products and work is always in progress/constantly/continually underway to come up with the next great collaboration. #4081 #4071 #1275 17 18 • 2009 Catalog Readers 12/21/08 10:43 PM Page 21 Folding Hunters • #4062 straight edge, black ✽ • #4062BO straight edge, blaze orange - New! • #4062CB straight edge, coyote brown ✽ - New! • #4062FG straight edge, foliage green ✽ - New! In his classes at TDI, Mr. Benner noticed what, from first hand experience, he had already believed to be true. In a conflict, fine motor skills deteriorate and gross motor skills are the most effective for fending off assailants. #1485 • #1482 straight edge, black #1483 serrated, black • #1484 Tanto, straight edge, black #1485 Tanto, serrated, black • #1484CB Tanto, straight edge, coyote brown ✽ #1485CB Tanto, serrated, coyote brown ✽ • #1484FG Tanto, straight edge, foliage green #1485FG Tanto, serrated edge, foliage geen ✽ • #1489 Trainer, bright red ✽ Clampack available for these knives: order item number followed by ”CP”. 23 With this in mind, Mr. Benner set out to design a low-profile or concealable fixed blade knife for law enforcement and other military and security personnel that could be drawn quickly and efficiently in times of duress. He brought the basic concept for the knife to KA-BAR in 2003. After more than a year of playing with the concept, prototype samples, and in-field testing, the TDI knife was put into production. #1485CB #1484FG #1485FG #1489 The same basic principles that were the foundation for creating that first knife were given consideration to future models and the TDI product line has grown from one knife to the expansive product line you see here. Each knife is designed to be easy to draw, sure when gripped, and ambidextrous for a multitude of mounting and application options. • Straps also sold separately. Shortly after his time in service he moved to the U.S. where he had the opportunity to meet and train with John Benner and his team at Tactical Defense Institute. It didn’t take long for Mr. Janda’s skills as a student there to be noticed. He quickly built credibility and a rapport with TDI founder, John Benner, and was asked to instruct firearms, knife, and empty hand skills classes at the institute. In 2004, Mr. Janda established FIN Designs, LLC, for the purpose of manufacturing custommade holsters and handgun accessories. Drawing from his years of interest in knives, Mr. Janda also began designing and producing concealable aftermarket knife sheaths. Having had success with his sheath business, Mr. Janda took his interest a step further and designed several models of both folding and fixed blade knives. In 2007, Mr. Janda shared his knife designs with KA-BAR and after a year of development and fine tuning, the eight knives you see here were first offered for sale. #5554 #5555 #5556 #5557 FIN Fixed Blades • #5554 drop point blade, straight edge #5555 drop point blade, serrated • #5556 Tanto blade, straight edge #5557 Tanto blade, serrated 27 28 • 2009 Catalog Readers 12/21/08 10:43 PM Page 31 • • • • • • • #6001 modified Tanto blade • #6002 Warthog blade • #6003 clip blade #3076 Agama - New! #3077 Gila - New! #3078 Komodo - New! #3079 Tegu - New! #3080 Chinchete - New! #3081 Caiman - New! #6001 #3076 #6002 #3077 #3078 #6003 #3079 • #3082 Rescue Kit - New!
