2009 SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER VOLUME 7 • NO. 5 FINE FILM FESTIVAL THE SOLOIST 2009, 118 minutes, rated PG-13. A homeless musician and a newspaper reporter in Los Angeles form a unique bond in this true story starring Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey, Jr. Tuesday, September 22 • 1:30 & 7:30 p.m. THE DIRECTOR’S CORNER What an amazing few months it has been, both for me and The Library! First, thank you to all the thoughtful customers who have wished me well on my appointment as Director. It is truly an honor to lead this wonderful staff and vibrant organization. Time literally flies by as we finish the main construction of our new children’s programming room and the adult quiet reading area. New furnishings have been ordered, thanks to our generous Friends of the Library, and soon the new spaces will be opened for business. The Library’s interior has been going through a much needed “face lift” since the building is more than 35 years old. We hope to begin the final piece of our face lift late this year or early next year. The Children’s room will finally be re-carpeted and a new bulletin board installed. I think you will agree that the whole building has a fresher, lighter look that makes it most welcoming. We are particularly happy to welcome our new café: A Novel Café, ready to serve up some delicious and enticing meals and snacks. Please stop by and wish Barbara and Lisa well and stay for a tasty treat! Please know that I look forward to many productive years as Director of The Library and I welcome your comments and suggestions since we are partners in making The Library the best resource for all our residents.Thank you again for your good wishes.
