THE DIRECTOR’S
CORNER
What an amazing few
months it has been, both
for me and The Library!
First, thank you to all the
thoughtful customers who have wished me well
on my appointment as Director. It is truly an
honor to lead this wonderful staff and vibrant
organization. Time literally flies by as we finish
the main construction of our new children’s programming room and the adult quiet reading area.
New furnishings have been ordered, thanks to
our generous Friends of the Library, and soon
the new spaces will be opened for business. The
Library’s interior has been going through a much
needed “face lift” since the building is more than
35 years old. We hope to begin the final piece of
our face lift late this year or early next year. The
Children’s room will finally be re-carpeted and a
new bulletin board installed. I think you will agree
that the whole building has a fresher, lighter look
that makes it most welcoming. We are particularly happy to welcome our new café: A Novel
Café, ready to serve up some delicious and enticing meals and snacks. Please stop by and wish
Barbara and Lisa well and stay for a tasty treat!
Please know that I look forward to many
productive years as Director of The Library and
I welcome your comments and suggestions since
we are partners in making The Library the best
resource for all our residents.Thank you again for
your good wishes.

Closure—9/11, Eight Years Later
Lt. William Keegan, author of Closure, will share his experiences at

afternoon, and took a lead role in the recovery effort, using PATH
tunnels to enter “the pile” from underneath. His book includes
never-before-told stories, including how Lt. Keegan and his men uncovered 1,000 tons of gold and silver in a secret vault to keep the
Commodities Exchange from crashing. Hear his story about the

Ayesha working with TLC volunteers.
Congratulations to Ayesha Rizvi, who was awarded a $500
Friends of the Library Scholarship on June 9 during a ceremony at East Brunswick High School. Ayesha has been a
volunteer with The Library since she was in the eighth grade
working with the Teen Library Connection. She later moved
up to TLC Assistant Coordinator and also works as a Teen
Buddy in The Library’s math and reading programs and as
a volunteer with the Summer Reading Club. “Ayesha is
truly delightful,” said Youth Services Librarian Suzanne Klein.
“Her approachable manner and easy laugh have made
her a wonderful match for the Teen Buddies Program and
her partners have thrived under her attention.” Ayesha is
enrolled in the five-year Master of Business Administration
program at Rutgers University.
