No One Achieves
Success Alone
Founded in 2009, HOME (Hospital for Orthopedics and Specialized
Medicine) is the realization of a dream. It was created to offer a high
standard and excellent service of in the treatment of diseases of
the locomotor system. That’s why the idea was to add specialists of
Orthopedics and Traumatology, Neurosurgery, Neurology and Physiotherapy
to other medical specialties related to and supporting for Rheumatology,
Medical Clinic, Cardiology, General and Bariatric Surgery, Peripheral
Vascular, Urology, Nephrology, maxillofacial Surgery, Head and Neck Surgery,
Intensive Therapy, Infectology, Pain Clinic, among others. Today, I’m sure we
have reached our goal. In just three years, we have become a reference in
the field of orthopedics in Brazil.
Consequently our responsibility is even greater. The clinical staff of HOME
is made up of of highly qualified, conceptualized professional, who keep
up-to-date constantly. Our facilities were built specifically to support the
most diverse medical specialties. In addition to the “Freddie Fu” Surgical
Center (a tribute to one of the world’s most famous orthopedists),
HOME has a clinical laboratory, a large imaging center and one of the
biggest rehabilitation centers in the country available. And just like an
open hospital, we make these spaces available so that experts from
outside of our clinical staff can use our structure. This positive and ethic
integration, of a number of services, coupled with the work and dedication
of all professionals and employees, have given HOME its credibility and
reputation.
Soon we will have new additions. There will be an additional 7000 squaremeters, including a complete cardio center, a new surgical center for highly
complex cardiovascular surgery, hemodynamics, more hospital beds,
more ICU beds, imaging unit and a helipad. . Looking back on all that has
been achieved and seeing what we can do in the future, the only thing
that remains for me to do is to give thanks: to everyone who believed in
this project, especially my father-in-law, businessman Nazir Nabil El Haje,
investor and chairman of the hospital, who although not a doctor, always
believed in medicine as one of the best ways to do good for others. Also
his wife, Helenita, my second mother, and their children, Susie (my dear
wife), Nazir and Fause.
I hope that as you read the following pages in this publication you will be
able to realize how challenging, but at the same time how very valuable
and rewarding it is to be a part of developing a teamwork effort. I conclude,
by paraphrasing the journalist and businessman Antonio Augusto de
Carvalho (the Tuta) of Jovem Pan Radio Station in his latest book, “NO ONE
ACHIEVES SUCCESS ALONE.”
Dr. Paulo Lobo
Coordinator of the musculoskeletal Division and Sports Medicine of HOME. Member/director of the Brazilian Society of Sports
Traumatology and Arthroscopy (SBRATE). Coordinator of the Medical Department of the Brasiliense Football Club.

A dream come true
Nabil Nazir El Haje
Hospital HOME 2012
Being a doctor was a childhood
dream of businessman Nazir Nabil
El Haje. From early on medicine
fascinated him. Harsh realities, however, prevented the boy, who came
to Brazil from Lebanon when he was
nine years old, from fulfilling his
vocation. Shortly after turning 12 years old in the 1950s, his father went
blind. There was no other alternative
for Nabil but to start working in the
family business, a grocery store in
Anapolis (GO), to help support the
household.
The small grocery store in the interior of Goias was just the beginning
of the bright future that was to
follow. Much work and the privilege
of a great talent for business made
Nabil El Haje stand out as one of
the big businessmen in the Brazilian
Midwest, primarily in the areas of
hotel business and civil construction. And while he was not able to
fulfill his dream of being a doctor
when he was small, he had the good
fortune of seeing his grandchildren
and son-in-law practice this profession. To get even closer to what was
his great passion, in 2009 Nabil
decided to build HOME (Hospital
Ortopédico e Medicina Especializada – Hospital for Orthopedics and
Specialized Medicine).
In just three years in operation,
HOME has become a point of
reference throughout the whole
country, in its various specialties.
For Nabil, this is only the beginning
of a path that has the potential to
be a long and solid one. Following
are excerpts of an interview with the
founder of the hospital.
Interview
7
How did the idea of creating a hospital come about?
Nabil - Since I was a child in Lebanon I always had the dream of
studying & practicing medicine. After
I became a businessman fate had it
that my son-in-law as well as three
of my six grandchildren became doctors. And I have still another granddaughter who is taking her college
entrance exam to study medicine.
I also have two other grandchildren
who are studying architecture and
law / administration, respectively.
I am very proud of all of them. I
built the hospital for them, so they
can devote themselves to helping
people, having the best possible
working conditions available to
them. But none of this would exist
if it were not for the unconditional
support of my wife, Helenita, and the
active participation of my children,
Susie, and Nazir Fause in the administration of the companies.
What are your expectations for the
future?
Nabil - Our intention is to consolidate HOME more and more as one
of the best hospitals in the country.
Soon, we will build another wing in
the hospital, specializing in high
complexity surgery, especially in the
cardiovascular area, besides expanding orthopedics and neurosurgery.
We will also equip HOME with a helipad so that emergency care can be
even faster and more efficient. The
goal is to be able to offer ever better
and more cutting edge services to
our patients.
Will HOME expand to other locations
in the Federal District?
Nabil - This has always been the
idea and we’re already working on it.
In addition to continuing the process
of constant modernization of the
headquarters, in Asa Sul, we will
build another HOME unit in Ceilândia. It will have about 300 beds and
a structure that will not be inferior
at all to the hospital on L2 Sul. The
southern part of the Federal District
is growing very much and hence the
demand for hospital services as
well. Nothing is fairer than having
a hospital with all the excellence
of HOME, always striving for the
comfort of their patients.

OME has one of the most
modern physical therapy
clinics in the country,
SPORTFISIO, coordinated by
physical therapists Revia Lima
and Meire Damando. Designed
for the treatment of elite athletes,
the space functions in an area of
1200 m2 and has a gym, the latest
equipment, heated pool, sand
box, boxes with air-conditioning for
electro and thermal therapy, two
large dressing rooms and a track for
proprioceptive training and racing.
Another highlight is the isokinetic
machine, key in the treatment of
high performance athletes, since it
evaluates the strength and power
of the movements of those who are
recovering from injury. SPORTFISIO is
the only private clinic in the Federal
District that has this equipment.
But it’s not just the infrastructure
and materials that make a big
difference at SPORTFISIO. The
clinic also has 16 physiotherapists
specialized in the rehabilitation of

All are constantly involved in
refresher courses and are always
in contact with professionals from
Brazil and from around the world in
order to exchange information and
experiences.
SPORTFISIO is a reference
center for the treatment of athletes.
Hundreds of high-performance
athletes have already been treated
by its professionals with a high
return index to the most diverse
sports disciplines.
SPORTFISIO also established
itself as one of the clinics par
excellence in physical therapy in the
treatment of many different diseases
– from problems with joints to any
kind of motor disability to recovery
from surgery. For each patient a
specific treatment is developed, with
excellent results.
With the inauguration of HOME,
SPORTFISIO transferred to the
institution, where it added the quality
of its services to innovative and
equally cutting-edge management
provided by the hospital in the
specialties it serves. In three
years of partnership, the activities
developed by SPORTFISIO have
gained larger dimensions. With
modern infrastructure, the clinic
was able to augment the number
of visits and provide an increasingly
more sophisticated service to their
patients. In partnership with HOME,
SPORTFISIO has assisted numerous
sports competitions in the Federal
District.

In MEDFISIO, physiotherapists
assist in the treatment of

healthy, active life requires the
practice of regular physical
exercise. But the movements
can result in more problems than
benefits if they are done without the
necessary guidance or in the wrong

team works with injury prevention
both in regular individuals and in top
athletes. Other differentials include
guidance and sports programs
for elderly, pregnant, and cardio
patients, as well as hypertensive and
diabetic patients.
The clinic performs procedures
such as cardiopulmonary exercise
testing, digital dynamometry and
assessment of muscular and
joint balance, electrocardiogram
in a resting position, postural
assessment and treatment of
deformities of the spine and chest,
sports check-up, teen check-up,
assessment of foot or stepping types
with production of custom made
insoles, treatment of tendinitis,
arthritis program, body composition
assessment and strength testing.
CEMPRE is the only clinic in Brazil
to develop a methodology created
by the University of Pittsburgh, USA,
to identify alterations in the brain
caused by concussions, a fairly
common problem in contact sports
such as football and basketball.
This test identifies possible changes
and allows an accurate assessment
of the right time for the person to
resume their sporting activity without
any restriction from the clinical
perspective.
The center also cultivates the
“CEMPRE Circuit”, taking its services
to clubs and gyms so that students
