E Evveennttss TThhiiss W Weeeekk:: Birthdays: 6th - Saul Fraga 7th - Jaden Richardson 9th - Sandra Mitchell 10th - Maria Cisneros Sonshine Preschool Anniversaries: 1 John 5:1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. Throughout his letter John has interwoven the themes of faith, love, and obedience. As we near the end of the letter John brings all three of these themes together once again to lay out the test of authentic Christianity. There are many in Christian circles who boldly claim to be “born again”. According to research from George Barna anywhere from 35 to 43 percent of the U.S. population claims to be born again Christians (The Barna Update 3-15-2001). On the other hand we know that Jesus warned that there will be many who call Him, “Lord”, but at the judgement He will say, “I never knew you; depart from me, you who practice lawlessness” (Matthew 7:23). This a sobering reminder that we each have a responsibility to be sure we are truly born again. In our world a new birth is a joyous occasion and a time to celebrate. With each new birth there are obvious signs, tangible things that we can point to and find evidence of life. If those signs are missing there is cause for great concern. The same is true for us spiritually. If we have been born again there are obvious signs, tests that we can look to that indicate whether or not we truly have life. This is why John has repeated the themes of faith, love, and obedience throughout his letter. They are the signs of a life born again. - Jake Chism We want you to know that it is a great honor to have you here with us today.
