When heated, the Kaprolene panels mold the shell to the shape of the foot. •This process creates a mirror image of the skiers foot in the shell of the boot, offering premium comfort and maximum precision. •The Custom Shell material is placed in many critical fit areas of the boot, and will solve many fit issues instantly, and improves performance and sensitivity for all skiers. MEDIAL KAPROLENE CS PANELS LATERAL KAPROLENE CS PANELS •Custom Shell technology is available on Several models in the Salomon boot range, and will fit a wide range of foot shapes. • Falcon, Instinct, and X-3 models: Built on our lowest volume last, these models will adapt to widths from 98-104mm • Impact and Idol models: Built on our best selling performance last, these models will adapt to widths from 100mm to 106mm. FOR COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS, SEE TECHNICAL MANUAL Q.> A. Can the shell change forms several times? > Salomon Custom Shell models can be re-molded several times. Will the customer really feel it? > All foot shapes will feel improved wrapping of the foot in a Custom Shell Boot. How many mm can we expand the shell? > The customers foot will stretch the boot up to 6mm when heated properly. When Custom bootfitting, stretches can be pushed 8mm. What is the advantage compared to normal bootfitting? > With a Custom Shell boot, the skiers foot is the tool used to stretch and mold the shell. The precision is a perfect mirror image of the foot shape. Should custom insoles be made before or after heating the CUSTOM SHELL boot? > Mold, fit, and insert custom footbeds prior to molding. For problem feet, should stretches and grinds occur before or after the Custom Shell Molding? > Since the adaptation of the metatarsal area of the foot can completely reposition the foot in a boot, Custom Shell molding should be done first, and adaptive bootfitting should be completed after. Can Custom shell boots be stretched in normal methods (machines, presses)? > Yes, but care should be taken when stretching in the area of the seams. Thorough heating, progressive stretching, and gradual cooling will deliver the best results. Over time, do Custom Shell molded boots return to the original shape, as normal PU boots do? > There will be slight retraction in the plastic, but less than half as much as traditional boot materials. Traditional boots can return 90% to their original shape over time. Due to the chemical properties of the Kaprolene Panels, Custom Shell boots will hold the anatomic molded shape through the life of the boot. Should the Custom Fit Liner be Molded before or after the Custom Shell Molding? > Molding the liner fine tunes the fit. This should be done after the Custom Shell Molding process. The Custom Shell molding will solve most fit issues and adapts the shell fit of the last, Custom Fit Liners should be done after Shell Molding in order put the finishing touch on the fit. How do I know when the shell is hot enough for the molding? > The Conform’able Oven is calibrated, such that a boot placed in the oven for 10 minutes will be ready for the custom molding process. What is the ideal temperature to form the Custom Shell? > 100°C at core of the MATERIAL How long was this Patented technology in development? > 3 years of laboratory and on snow testing. What is the impact of the new material on the performance of the boot? > There is no effect. The Kaprolene material has a PU base, as does the rest of the shell, so the properties of flex and lateral rigidity are unaffected. If using with an injected liner, when do I mold the shells? > In General, Liner injection is done before molding the shell. Why isn’t Custom Shell Technology used in World Cup Racing? > In World cup racing, every athlete has a technician who hand grinds and shapes boots to match the skiers foot shape Shapes can be altered for different conditions, and disciplines. Custom Shell offers this level of fit and performance to all skiers, in 20 minutes. FOR COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS, SEE TECHNICAL MANUAL SALOMON RECOMMENDED METHOD : 20 minutes 10 1. Warm ShellS in Conform’able Oven without liners 2. + 3. STEP IN AND FEEL 4 6 4. Allow shells to cool to room temperature FOR COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS, SEE TECHNICAL MANUAL After custom shell molding, you can measure the effect on the shell with calipers... FOR COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS, SEE TECHNICAL MANUAL Recommendations for Custom Boot fitting... GUN BOILING WATER HEATING ELEMENTS FOR COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS, SEE TECHNICAL MANUAL When Custom fitting with a Heat Gun, Hot Water, or Infra-Red Elements... 1. Do remove liners from the boot shell. 2. Do hold at least 10cm’s away from the black Kaprolene insert. 3. Do focus heat directly on to the black Kaprolene insert. 4. Do Carefully monitor the heat of the inside of the shell to thoroughly heat for shell stretching. 5. DO Use water spray bottle to help prevent any surface scarRing. 6. Do heat the inserts for 1 min (maximum) at a time. Kaprolene needs 3 times less heat than regular PU boot material (equal thicknesses). 7. Do not use too small of bell to punch the boot. 8. Do not punch the Kaprolene area too quickly. Slowly apply pressure from the device . 9.You have 4 min to shape or mold the Kaprolene 10.You may heat and mold multiple times 11. Do Allow shells to cool to room temperature. GUN Even when using the listed precautions above ,the responsibility still solely sits upon the bootfitter to monitor the level of heat application and shell manipulation to not damage the boot. FOR COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS, SEE TECHNICAL MANUAL When using other tools for shell modification, follow the guidelines found on these next 3 pages... Hydraulic pushing machine Manual equipment with screw Tappet with bell FOR COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS, SEE TECHNICAL MANUAL WHEN USING A HYDRAULIC PUSHING MACHINE... 1. Carefully monitor the placement of the stretch and slowly, progressively push the shell material when heated. 3.DO not push more than 8 mm on the junction areas (cf on the following page) FOR COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS, SEE TECHNICAL MANUAL WHEN USING MANUAL EQUIPMENT WITH SCREW... 1. Carefully monitor the placement of the stretch and slowly, progressively push the shell material when heated 3.DO not push more than 8 mm on the junction areas (cf on the following page). FOR COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS, SEE TECHNICAL MANUAL WHEN USING A TAPPET WITH BELL... 1. Do apply on the black kaprolene areas. 2.You have 4 min to deform the boots and you have to do it progressively (Slow deformation). 3.Junction areas : do not push more than 8 mm (cf picture on the following page). 4. Do not use the small bell. FOR COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS, SEE TECHNICAL MANUAL Junction areas of CS inserts : do not push more than 8 mm 8 mm (Max) Junction areas of the kaprolene ARE SENSITIVE FOR COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS, SEE TECHNICAL MANUAL WARM UP Custom Shell is a revolutionary technology that enables the outer shell of the boot to stretch and mold around the foot in difficult to fit areas, creating a more comfortable and better performing boot for all skiers in a matter of minutes. In Oven, with gun, in boiling water or with heating elements. 10 STEP IN EXPAND The Custom Shell will expand to the exact width of your foot. 4 COOL DOWN In Cold Water, with cold packs, in snow or in shop (20 minutes).
