Teamwork Newsletter for parents of disabled children Autumn 2010 Parent’s meeting held 14th October HAIPAC The meeting took place at Town Hall, Llanelli. NEW LOOK SITE! Joanne Silverthorn from Carmarthenshire’s Carers Service came to chat to parents about how the service keeps carers up to date with information and also hold events and coffee mornings throughout the county, amongst many other things. To find out more call them on 0300 0200 002. www.haipac.co.uk Rebecca Vaughan also came along from the Care to Work project and she spoke about how the service can offer carers and past carers help to get back into education or training and support them in gaining employment. Help and information for parents and carers HAIPAC is having a facelift – After its launch in January, the HAIPAC website has gone from strength to strength. Thanks to funding from the welsh assembly, its having a full makeover. The new look will include rolling news and events sections as well as keeping the links to our social networking pages on Facebook and Twitter. However, the emphasis is still about putting help and information for parents and carers at their finger tips. There is now a HAIPAC development group who are always keen to welcome new volunteers who would like to get involved with the website. Just drop us an email at [email protected] or call Cindy Jenkins on 01267 232256 ext 306 Kidz Club & Teenzone Cinema Exhibitors' Association Card The CEA card is a national card that can be used to verify that the holder is entitled to one free ticket for a person accompanying them to the cinema. The card is valid for 1 year from the date of issue .To apply for the card you will need submit proof to show that you meet one or more of the following criteria: a) Be in receipt of Disability Living Allowance or Attendance Allowance. b) Be a registered blind person. You will also need to supply a passport-sized photo with your application to appear on the card. A processing fee is chargeable per card. Kidz Club is a social group for primary school children aged 8 to 10 who have additional needs. Kidzclub is held 4 – 6 pm. TeenZone is a social club for young people aged 11 to 18 who have additional needs. We meet 6.00 – 8.00pm Both clubs are held in Integrated Children’s centre, Llwynhendy 3 Wednesdays in every month. A range of activities are on offer including arts/crafts, cookery, table top games, sporting activities, outdoor play and children/young people get the opportunity to mix and make new friends. Coffee Mornings Coffee mornings are being held throughout the county for parents and carers to get together. Currently they are being held in the Myrrdin Unit, Canolfan Elfed – Q.E. High, Ysgol Heol Goffa and the Llanelli Town area. If you would like to set up a coffee morning or would like to see one held near you then call Cindy on 01267 232256 ext 306. Parent/Carers of Children with Disabilities - Support Group You are invited to a coffee morning at the Myrddin Special Unit, Heol Dysgwylfa, Carmarthen on Monday 15th November & Monday 13th December at 10.30am – 12 o’ clock. Please come along for a cuppa and meet other parents/carers and share ideas and experiences. David Williams from Cerebra will be attending on the 15th. A warm welcome awaits you, from all at the Parent Support Group. Carers Service The Carers Service host regular coffee mornings to give carers an opportunity to meet with others. The next coffee mornings will be: · Tue 7th December Coleshill Social Centre, Llanelli · Tue 14th December at the CAVS Office, Queen Street, Carmarthen For more information please call the Carers Service on 0300 0200 002 or email [email protected] of an Carmarthenshire Carers’ Rights Day Carmarthenshire Carers Alliance have organised a training event for carers with Luke Clements, Professor at Cardiff University Law School, to mark this year's Carers' Rights Day. Luke is a leading specialist in community care and disability rights related advice and litigation and is a consultant solicitor with Scott-Moncrieff Harbour & Sinclair. The event will be held between 10am and 3pm at The Halfway Inn, Nantgaredig on Wednesday 1st December. If you would like further information or to book a place please call 01267 246534 or email [email protected] v.uk After a lot of fundraising and hard work by all, Blaenau’s garden is now complete. The children have enjoyed playing in the garden throughout the summer and will have plenty of opportunity to use the garden for lots of wet weather play during the autumn/winter months.
