CELEBRATING
20 YEARS
‘Carers’ Link Barossa
and districts Inc. has
successfully achieved
accreditation at
Certificate Level of
the Service Excellence Program’
It’s Goodbye, Thank you and Hello
Where did the 20 years go of my employment at
Carers’ Link? This is what I have asked myself as I
move into retirement. It has been a wonder filled
journey that makes me feel grateful for the opportunity I have had to work with many special people
and their families, we have “done life” together,
and its been tremendously rewarding for me.
It was 16 years ago that I asked the Carers’ Link Board to consider me
as an interim Manager while Kathryn Fuller who had been the Manager for the first 5 years, had a year off. At that time there was only 3
other staff and I thought I should be able to manage them considering
Jill Wehr was one and Vicki Williamson was the other, two very competent ladies. As it turns out the Board gave me a 12 month trial and
Vicki and Jill said they would support me, Kathryn didn’t come back,
and no one has been able to get rid of me since!
Carers’ Link though, is not about me, it’s about serving Carers and people with disability in our communities. This need has always been in
our communities and the Board, staff and volunteers have ensured
we have fulfilled our purpose. By doing this for the last 20 years we
have grown to now provide support services across the Barossa, Yorke
Peninsula and the Adelaide Hills. All of our expansion has been driven
by requests from local people and government to assist them in
providing services to Carers and their families, in their local area. We
have had to work diligently and with a pro-active attitude to achieve
what we have.
We now support over 1,700 registered Carers and provide over 150 in
home packages of support for people with disabilities as well as supporting over 100 aged people with day activities and social support.
There are now 50 staff mostly part time, nearly 200 Volunteers and
well over 100 Independent Contractors. Our Budget will be over $4
million dollars for the first time this year. We have grown, because of
the passion of the Board who are all Carers or retired ones, staff and
volunteers who are keen to make sure our people get the assistance
they require. We have all done it together, and very well.

Thank You
I am Thanking you the Carers for giving me the opportunity to work with you to build Carers’ Link into
what we have today.
Thank you to the dozens of Carer Board Members who have willingly served with me. It has been a
pleasure to get to know you, listen to your stories and build the organization we have together. Thanks
too go to the dedicated, committed and passionate Staff who have captured the vision of serving our
communities, we truly have done it together, with all Staff playing their role within the organization. As
staff, you have loved and lived with Carers and their families, ‘gone the extra mile’, and made sure that
we really are ‘here to serve Carers and their families’. Thank you.
Our fabulous Volunteers have done a sterling job, and I want to thank them all for the commitment too.
We could not have done it with out the Volunteers, many who are and have been Carers, ‘just wanting
to give back’. You are all a shining example of ‘working towards the common good for our community’.
What a great privilege it has been for me, to work with you.
Hello
Hello and Welcome to the new CEO Vicki Williamson. Vicki has been my work colleague for nearly 18 years! Vicki, as the former Executive Officer and I have shared
and survived the many highs and lows in managing our organization. We have been
tested and strengthened by those experiences. As a consequence, I am pleased the
Board appointed Vicki as the new CEO and I’m confident she will do a great job in
leading Carers’ Link into the next challenging years. Above all though, Vicki does
understand and live the philosophies that underpin Carer’s Link which is essential for
our future prosperity as a community and financially. Vicki takes up her duties as CEO
on the 4th of July, although I will be here to assist until the 29th of July.
I look forward to seeing you all some time of the next 2 months, to exchange stories and wish you well.
Thanks again for your trust in me over the years.

LIGHTNING GROUP — CARER AND CAREE
The main objective of the Lightning group is for Carers to be able to enjoy an outing with the
person they care for. Carers on their own are also welcome. The outing is shorter than other outings
on offer at the Carer Wellness Centre so that the Cared for does not get too tired. The outing consists
of one activity and a meal out at various hotels around the Hills/Adelaide. Highlights from Lightning
group outings this year have been tours around St Peters Cathedral, the Rainforest Retreat in Murray
Bridge and fun OP shopping in Blackwood with a fabulous 3 course lunch at the Flagstaff Hotel.
Outings to watch our for later in the year are a tour around a state of the art eco
friendly built home in Iron Bank known as the Earthship,
a visit to the Tickle Tank in Mount Barker and visiting the beautiful
gardens and labyrinth at the Waite Institute.
Outings are held on the Third Wednesday of each month.

Progress Report on the Carers’ Link Rebranding and Marketing Project
Over the past few months we at Carers’ Link have been talking to you about the potential rebranding of the “Carers’ Link” name, logo and website. This is happening because of some of the changes
to the way services are funded and an expansion of service supports being undertaken by Carers’
Link.
You might remember that we asked for your input at the end of last year, regarding a name which
might replace “Carer’s Link’. Your feedback was invaluable and gave us a good grounding to move
forward.
A Committee of Carers, Staff and Board members was formed to work on the project. There have
been lots of focus on with much discussion and exploration of alternative name and logo options.
So what’s happening now?
Carers’ Link engaged Justin from the Stellar I.T. Company (who are experts in marketing and rebranding) to work with us to further the Marketing Project. We have held several workshops with
Justin to explore all aspects of our rebranding which included the name change.
I am happy to announce that the Committee’s recent recommendation to the Board regarding an
alternative name to that of “Carers’ Link” is
‘CARERS AND disABILITY LINK”
Which was approved by the Board at their last meeting.
The name was one of several which were suggested when we initially sent out the survey.
To accompany the new name, a new logo will be designed alongside of statements reflecting the
support that we provide.
Ongoing updates of our progress will occur through the newsletter, however you are welcome to
contact me for more information or clarification.
