management of the Glendora
Police Dept. has presented the
California Peace Police Officer’s
Memorial Foundation with a

“We’re making this donation

Glendora Police Sergeant Jamie
Caldwell, of his fallen fellow officer, indicating a nearby monument in front of the Glendora
Police Department, on which
Pompei’s name is inscribed.
“It’s been 10 years since Louie
died in the line of duty and we
don’t want him to be forgotten,”
Capt. Rob Castro said. Pompei,

Raffle For Priest’s Truck
GLENDORA — The generosity of one man is a gift to another who served his community. On January 30th, 2006 Mr.
Ziad Alhassen, the owner of
Clippinger Chevrolet, Clippinger
Ford, Hummer of West Covina
and West Covina Jeep and
Chrysler, donated a reconditioned, 2001, blue Ford F150
crew cab truck to Father Bernard Njeru, Associate Pastor at
St. Dorothy's Church in
Glendora.
This vehicle was to be
shipped to The Republic of
Kenya, compliments of Mr.
Alhassen, where Father Bernard
Njeru was returning home after
his five years of service to the
Glendora parish. Father Bernard
had gained a reputation in the San
Gabriel Valley as a calming and
healing presence. Unfortunately
after an exhaustive dialog with
officials within the government
of Kenya, Father Bernard's request to bring a left hand drive
vehicle into a country where only
right hand vehicles are allowed,
was denied.
With this disappointment at
hand, Monsignor Michael
Meyers, Senior Pastor at St.
Dorothy's, suggested that the
church take delivery of the vehicle and hold a raffle that will
help raise the badly needed funds
for Father Bernard to purchase
a vehicle in support of building
his new parish in Kenya. With
little hesitation, Mr. Alhassen volunteered to manage and process
the transfer of ownership to the
successful winner of the raffle
that will be held through the second half of February and the first
two weeks of March.

SAN GABRIEL VALLEY —
Pictured is some of the talented
orphan cast of Shakespeare
League of Pasadena's 60th annual
musical "ANNIE" which will be
playing at the San Gabriel Civic
Auditorium on March 24th, 25th
and 26th.
The production will be directed
by Bill Shaw with choreography
by Nikkei Logo and the orchestra conducted by Richard Allen.
Shakespeare League members
Donna Scranton and Sue Hertz
are this year's producers. Proceeds from the show will benefit Villa Esperanto and Wellness
Community-Foothills of San
Gabriel Valley.
There is a large cast of actors
and actresses who will put in
more then 7 weeks of rehearsals
5 to 7 days per week. In fact,

From top left to right: Tory Freeth, Roberta Ahrens, Michaela Trimmer; middle left to right: Rebecca
Thomas, Maegan Wang and Micaela Lin. Center: Alissa Anderegg, who stars as Annie and Meeska
the dog, will portray Annie’s dog, “Sandy.”
The San Gabriel Valley
will also appear in this play and
have 5 character appearances.
This will be his first "live audience" performance and that
should also be very entertaining
for those of you who know him.
The kids as well as the adult actors have worked very hard up
to this point.
Alaska Underage, who stars as
Annie is just absolutely outstanding as an actress. Her supporting co-stars (the other orphans)
are just as impressive.
We will continue to follow the
progress of this production as we
have some special information
on the actors and actresses from
our area.
Come see this family musical and
hear familiar tunes such as "Tomorrow" and "It's a Hard Knock
Life."
Tickets are on sale now by calling (626) 281-6053. Great entertainment for the entire family.

WALNUT — The Chinese
American Parents Association
(CAPA) of Walnut presented a
Chinese New Year celebration of
traditional costumes, foods, music and dance for students and
staff at Suzanne Middle School.
The three assemblies held on
February 10 were coordinated by
parents Wen Pei and Mei Chen.
"We wanted to introduce the
Chinese culture and celebrate the
New Year with students," Chen
said. Two Suzanne students performed during the show. Eighth
grader Timothy Lin carefully
balanced a giant spinning Chinese
yoyo and seventh grader Anthony
Chan skillfully played the bamboo flute.
A martial arts exhibition featured a seven year-old national
kung-fu champion. To help increase understanding of the language, Chen translated each
school employee's name (89 total) into Chinese using hand-lettered calligraphy.
Students sampled lucky candy
and fortune cookies and enjoyed
learning about important Chinese
traditions. After the lion dance,
they were surprised when four
staff members appeared from
underneath the colorful costume.
"The purpose of the Assembly is to give all our students an
opportunity to experience first
hand a holiday that is very important to many of our students.
I believe that any opportunity that
we can give our students to learn
from each other gives us a richer
experience," said Principal Jan
Keating.
