Presidents Message
Greetings All!!
Welcome to Spring, or at least near to it, huh?
Glad to be back, I would like to thank our VP Bill
Read for sitting in for me last month, as well as
Bob Maderich, jim Kampmann, and Bob Halliday
for helping, and sorting out some of the details. Much thanks to Bob
Knudsen for sharing his knowledge about paints, and how to correctly
apply them at last months meeting.

Now, on to this month. It is our kit auction month, so bring all those kits
you don’t want and make some money! We will hold a short meeting,
then devote the balance of our time to the auction. All monies made in
the auction will be going back to the owner of that kit. YOU will need to
mark your kits with your name, keep track of what was sold to whom,
and at what price. That will be YOUR responsibility! Put a minimum price (reserve) on the kit so our autioneers wont
start the bidding too low for what you are comfortable getting for the kit. If you dont care, leave it off.
Tables willbe set up on the west & south sides of the room, next to the walls, starting at the entrance door for you to
stack your kits to auction. The chairs will be set up in rows throughout the center of the room. The auctioneers will
choose the order of kits to be sold, if you need to leave early, please note it to them so they can organize accordingly.
April theme will be “Cars of George Barris, and Salt Flats” We moved our auction up one month due to the library
room change we were forced to make for April.

February “On the Table”
It’s always great to welcome new members to the club
and Steve Berguetski is not exception. He brought a
lovely Tamiya Ferrari 360 Modena, in of course RED.
Jim Johnson graced us with a Polar Lights ‘55’ Chevy, that
he had done quite a bit of scratch building to. But you
need to be very quiet around it..........
Jim Kampmann had his in-progress 1988 Penske Indy
car in primer on the table.
It’s set for it’s yellow coat, you enjoy!
Bill Read, also had an in-progress Indy car on the table,
but his was the old IMC Lotus 38 from the 1965 race.
Once again, you enjoy.
Yes, there was a Bugaboo on the table and it was from
Doug Long. He hopes to have it done for the VW
challenge in November.
Dean Kuitunen had my favorite model on the table this
month. It was kit bashed ‘32’ Ford in ‘rat rod’ style. He used
parts from the new ‘29’ Ford and the ‘50’ Ford pickup kits. I
especially liked the realistic finishes on various parts of this
fine model.
Chris Vick gave us one of the new Revell NASCAR kits in
progress. It is going to be, of course, a Wood Brothers car
from 2015. He also had a 1/43 Starter kit that he is going
to do as one of Cale Yarborough’s 1969 cars. Bill Johanneck had a ‘56’ Chevy Nomad on the table and
two ‘53’ Nomads in progress.
While getting Bob Maderich to talk about his Tijuana
Taxi is nearly as difficult as convincing him to build a
2nd show rod, he did suggest it make another appearance so we all know he’s a secret show rod fan. He has
said this Monogram kit does go together pretty well, he
added a few details and wired the engine. Mark Rollie
added a Lil Bob figure (made from a pro wrestler toy
figure) and Lil Ezzy figure for Lil’s Bob’s taxi service.
Bob Maderich II responded to the ‘endurance’ car challenge with 7 cars that ran at LeMans thru the years. A ‘55’
Jag, a ‘66’ Alpine, a ‘67’ Chaparral, a ‘72’ Matra, a ‘72’ Ferrari
512, an ‘86’ Porsche 962, and a ‘96’ Porsche 911 GT1 were
his representatives.
Alan Hunter, a visitor to RPM that day, brought in a
couple of cars, one being an AMT ’25 Model T, and the
other car a ’58 Impala which he built as a replica of a 1:1
car he used to own.
Mark Rollie brought in some older show rod builds of
his, all Ertl/AMT reissues of MPC kits. First up was the
Vending Machine, with he used repro decals, flocking
for the interior, and American Satco tires for the rear
slicks. The Gridiron Grabber was built straight out of the
box, and the Hard Hat Hauler used repro decals to go
with it’s original political campaign theme from 1970
(an odd thing for a model kit to have at any time), and
the blower hat replaced to be more like the life-size car
built for promotional appearances.
Back to show rods, with Mike Scott’s Carl Casper’s
Paddy Wagon, built from the original MPC kit but with
repro decals that he made himself and from an ALPS
printer; an Monogram Uncertain T and an OOB build;
and his 10-7ear project of building Ed Roth’s Druid
Princess, completely scratchbuilt, and also with ALPS
printed decals.
It’s not very often you see an Uncertain T on the table,
but today we not only had one but actually two of
them, with the 2nd courtesy of Bob Knudsen. This was
a restoration of a $60 bagged collection of parts that
needed heavy TLC. The final finish was a combination
of House of Kolor Orange over HoK Gold. Continuing
with orange was Bob’s Monogram Orange Hauler, built
box stock and finished with Testor’s Fiery Orange.
Barry “Ozzy” Kasy’s ’57 T-Bird was built with the intention of “correcting all the factory imperfections” and
after that was all finally done received a nail-polish
paint finish.
Scott Harvieux’s Revell C7 Corvette came with a prepainted body was an OOB build, with extra painting
done to bring out the details.
Tom Finch, who recently is attempting to break building & completion records, brought in 4 of his bikes,
which have been done 2 at a time. First set is a pair of
Protar 1/9 Ducatis, representing the 2001 Imola 9. The
Tamiya 1/12 Camel Honda 211 V was built box stock,
and finished with Studio 27 decals and the other Tamiya 1/12 Honda RCV Telefonica Movistar was built box
stock. To prove it’s not all motorcycles, Tom brought in
his Revell Peterbuilt 379, which had a few scratch-built
parts including the exhaust stacks.
Jim Mulligan kept his can of Painter’s Touch Red busy
with his builds of #59 Shelby Cobra Dayton Coupe,
and a Fujimi Ford GT40 which he outfitted with turned
aluminum rims.
