Delivering more than
just an exhibiton
Touted by the international community as one of the most prestigious
culinary competition in Asia, the biennial FHA Culinary Challenge is
expected to attract over 800 talented chefs from around the region to
compete in its 2016 edition. Many more will converge to witness the
spectacle of international culinary talents taking to the arena to
compete for the top honours.
The hotel industry is facing pressure from all fronts – from finding
people with the right skills, escalating operating costs, fast changing
technology to constrained capital markets that lead to a slower
expansion of properties. OTAs have previously changed the way
hotels do business, and now, the emergence of non-traditional
competitors like vacation/home rentals could mean greater
disruption to the hotel business. Most importantly, the customer
mind-set has changed. Growing numbers of the “Millennial” (Gen-Y)
travellers are now forcing hotels to find ways to create a travel
experience that suits this growing group of travellers, as well as
effective ways to reach out to them, which is through social media
and technology.
The Individual Challenge segment will present a total of 13 classes
where chefs will go one-on-one to showcase their culinary talents and
innovative creations. At the group segments, namely the Gourmet Team
Challenge and Dream Team Challenge, teams will not only demonstrate
their culinary know-hows, but are also required to display effective
teamwork to vie for the top spots. In addition, a new segment featuring
innovative display of thematic high tea will be added to the competition.
The FHA2016 International Conference’s Hotel Operations Tracks
will discuss strategies and solutions to tackle these operational
issues, external threats and more.
