ALIVE AFTER FIVE—THURSDAY, AUG. 4
5:30-8:30 pm—ELLINGTON-BRIM PARKING LOT
DOWNTOWN CREEDMOOR
Thursday evening, August 4th, downtown Creedmoor is the place to be as the Chamber
presents its second ALIVE AFTER FIVE event of the year. Beginning at 5:30 pm, the
outstanding and extremely popular CRAIG WOOLARD BAND will be performing for
the enjoyment of attendees.
Craig won many accolades in his 27 years of partnering with THE EMBERS. A veteran
of the music industry since he was 14 years old, Craig has performed for Presidents, governors and ambassadors. He has appeared on stage with famous groups—The Four Tops,
The Temptations, The Beach Boys, Percy Sledge, Archie Bell, Chuck Jackson, Alabama.
He is one of the most-loved entertainers in Beach Music today. He will go out of his
way to help his many fans and is committed to giving his audience MORE than their
money’s worth. The band’s audience knows no age boundaries —- they appeal to young,
old and everyone in-between!
Not content with performing only Beach Music, Craig recalls the seventies and eighties
with all the great dance music from that era. You might hear songs by Chicago, Tower of
Power, Jimmy Buffet . . . a whole set of dance music. With Craig and his band as our entertainment, there will be a diversified offering of incredible music!
Born and raised in Washington, NC, Craig was class president at Washington High. He
went on to attend Duke University. His dad, now deceased, was an attorney and had high
hopes of Craig following in his footsteps. That didn’t happen because he was destined to
be an entertainer. His musical talents include saxophone—baritone, tenor and soprano;
keyboards and flute. Since 2004, when Craig and The Embers parted ways, he has been on
a new adventure . . . and, THE CRAIG WOOLARD BAND was born!
The evening will reflect the classic style of Ray Charles, the dynamics of Marvin Gaye
and Rod Stewart, the Soul of James Brown, the vocal prowess of Steve Perry of Journey,
combined with the passion of Sam Cook and Michael McDonald —-”The Soul Man of
Beach Music” - CRAIG WOOLARD. Be there to enjoy a summer evening of incredible
music, food and visiting with friends!
IT’S TIME FOR THE NEW TEACHER BREAKFAST
TUESDAY, AUGUST 16TH; 7:30 AM
MASONIC HOME FOR CHILDREN’S CAFETERIA
SPONSOR: GRANVILLE HEALTH SYSTEM
Chamber members are invited to attend the annual New Teacher Breakfast Tuesday,
August 16th, 7:30 am, in the cafeteria of the Masonic Home for Children, 600 College
Street, Oxford.
Granville Health System will again be the breakfast sponsor. Mark Hyde, chef at GHS,
representing Morrison’s, will be catering a delicious (and attractive!) breakfast.
The 40 to 50 new teachers will have an opportunity to meet local government and
elected officials, business owners and Chamber members. Also, Chamber President Linda
Taylor will invite each new teacher to give a short introduction—their hometown, college
and the Granville County school where they will be teaching.
Gift bags are being prepared by the Chamber staff for the new teachers, which consist of
donated gift items from many local county businesses. We are always overwhelmed at the
volume and assortment of incredible donations that are received.
Granville Health System and the Chamber extend an invitation to all Chamber members
to welcome these new teachers to our county and the school system. Please respond to one
of the Chamber’s offices, if you plan to attend—[email protected], 693.6125
or [email protected], 528.4994.

CITY OF CREEDMOOR PLANNING FOR BIGGEST
MUSIC FESTIVAL IN 20-YEAR HISTORY
Board of Directors 2013
Sheila Owen
[email protected]
Century 21 Country Knolls
438-2774
“The year 2011 marks the twentieth annual celebration of the Creedmoor Music Festival, and the City is preparing for a celebration like no other! The Festival will be held rain
or shine on Main Street in downtown Creedmoor on September 17th from 9am to 4 pm.
Two stages will be set up this year to offer MORE music, MORE dancing, MORE entertainment and MORE fun! Many new vendors will join with vendors returning from previous years to offer festival attendees a unique sampling of food, crafts, gifts and other fascinating items. ABC-11 Eyewitness News Anchor/Reporter Fred Shropshire and Reporter
Sheyenne Rodriguez will be on hand to distribute door prizes and introduce bands along
with Creedmoor Mayor Darryl Moss. The ever-popular bounce house and other free kids’
activities will be at their usual locations with some new surprises planned this year for our
young and young-at-heart citizens.
The City isn’t revealing ALL of the new and exciting additions yet and urges everyone
to mark their calendars so as not to miss the opportunity to catch up with fellow citizens,
eat some terrific food, shop handcrafted merchandise and enjoy the music of top-notch
local bands. YOU could be a recipient of one of this year’s exciting door prizes—
including the Grand Prize 3-Day, 2-Night Beach Getaway.
Don’t forget . . . Vendor spaces are still available and sponsorship is still needed for
what promises to be the best Music Festival in our twenty-year history! For more information or to download a vendor/sponsor application, please visit the City’s website at
www.cityofcreedmoor.org. We’ll see you at the Festival!”

RECEIVING DISCARDED EYE GLASSES

the Lions Clubs would appreciate donations of unused eye glasses to their organization.
Please contact Fred—693.0101—or any Lions Club Member for details.
SALES TAX HOLIDAY
AUGUST 5—7
As mentioned previously, during the sales tax holiday period, retail sales of specified
articles of merchandise are exempt from both state and local sales and use taxes. Many
retailers anticipate heavy traffic and elevated sales beginning Friday, August 5th and ending Sunday, August 7th when North Carolina celebrates its tenth Sales Tax Holiday. This
weekend has become popular as it does help consumers with back-to-school shopping.
The North Carolina General Assembly created the first sales tax holiday in 2003.
HUMAN RESOURCE COMMITTEE MEETING
AUGUST 16TH—CHAMBER BOARDROOM
After a July break, the Human Resource Committee will resume its meetings Thursday,
Aug. 16, 12 noon, at the Chamber of Commerce. Lunch and the program is being sponsored by Staff Mark—Sarah Falkner.
Details of the meeting will be sent via email to HR committee members. Please note
the response date so that the hosts may plan accordingly.

HOW NEW YORK LIFE
RATES WITH THE EXPERTS
An insurance policy is only as good as the company behind it. To help
consumers make intelligent decisions, independent services rate insurers.
While the rating services use the same criteria to make their judgments,
each focuses on a separate aspect of a company. New York Life and its
subsidiary, New York Life Insurance and Annuity Corporation, have
received the highest ratings from four major rating services as indicated
below:
Moody’s: Aaa
for financial strength
A.M. Best: A++
for financial strength
Standard & Poor’s: AAA
for financial strength
Fitch: AAA
for financial strength
Source: Individual Third Party Rating Reports (as of 7/7/10)
The financial strength and ratings do not apply to any investment products
because they are subject to market risks and will fluctuate in value.
