124 Hillsboro Street PO Box 820 Oxford , NC 919.693.6125 1598 NC Hwy. 56 Butner, NC 919.528.4994 August 2011 Volume 15 Issue 8 www.granville-chamber.com [email protected] Granville Chamber ALIVE AFTER FIVE—THURSDAY, AUG. 4 5:30-8:30 pm—ELLINGTON-BRIM PARKING LOT DOWNTOWN CREEDMOOR Thursday evening, August 4th, downtown Creedmoor is the place to be as the Chamber presents its second ALIVE AFTER FIVE event of the year. Beginning at 5:30 pm, the outstanding and extremely popular CRAIG WOOLARD BAND will be performing for the enjoyment of attendees. Craig won many accolades in his 27 years of partnering with THE EMBERS. A veteran of the music industry since he was 14 years old, Craig has performed for Presidents, governors and ambassadors. He has appeared on stage with famous groups—The Four Tops, The Temptations, The Beach Boys, Percy Sledge, Archie Bell, Chuck Jackson, Alabama. He is one of the most-loved entertainers in Beach Music today. He will go out of his way to help his many fans and is committed to giving his audience MORE than their money’s worth. The band’s audience knows no age boundaries —- they appeal to young, old and everyone in-between! Not content with performing only Beach Music, Craig recalls the seventies and eighties with all the great dance music from that era. You might hear songs by Chicago, Tower of Power, Jimmy Buffet . . . a whole set of dance music. With Craig and his band as our entertainment, there will be a diversified offering of incredible music! Born and raised in Washington, NC, Craig was class president at Washington High. He went on to attend Duke University. His dad, now deceased, was an attorney and had high hopes of Craig following in his footsteps. That didn’t happen because he was destined to be an entertainer. His musical talents include saxophone—baritone, tenor and soprano; keyboards and flute. Since 2004, when Craig and The Embers parted ways, he has been on a new adventure . . . and, THE CRAIG WOOLARD BAND was born! The evening will reflect the classic style of Ray Charles, the dynamics of Marvin Gaye and Rod Stewart, the Soul of James Brown, the vocal prowess of Steve Perry of Journey, combined with the passion of Sam Cook and Michael McDonald —-”The Soul Man of Beach Music” - CRAIG WOOLARD. Be there to enjoy a summer evening of incredible music, food and visiting with friends! IT’S TIME FOR THE NEW TEACHER BREAKFAST TUESDAY, AUGUST 16TH; 7:30 AM MASONIC HOME FOR CHILDREN’S CAFETERIA SPONSOR: GRANVILLE HEALTH SYSTEM Chamber members are invited to attend the annual New Teacher Breakfast Tuesday, August 16th, 7:30 am, in the cafeteria of the Masonic Home for Children, 600 College Street, Oxford. Granville Health System will again be the breakfast sponsor. Mark Hyde, chef at GHS, representing Morrison’s, will be catering a delicious (and attractive!) breakfast. The 40 to 50 new teachers will have an opportunity to meet local government and elected officials, business owners and Chamber members. Also, Chamber President Linda Taylor will invite each new teacher to give a short introduction—their hometown, college and the Granville County school where they will be teaching. Gift bags are being prepared by the Chamber staff for the new teachers, which consist of donated gift items from many local county businesses. We are always overwhelmed at the volume and assortment of incredible donations that are received. Granville Health System and the Chamber extend an invitation to all Chamber members to welcome these new teachers to our county and the school system. Please respond to one of the Chamber’s offices, if you plan to attend—[email protected], 693.6125 or [email protected], 528.4994.
