At Desert Schools, we believe in shared
prosperity — the idea that when we do well
and our community succeeds, everyone
benefits. Last year alone, we contributed
more than $1.8M through grants,
donations, volunteering and more.
We’ve kept up the good work in 2016 by
awarding more than $80,000 in grants
to local organizations dedicated to
helping others. One of our newest grant
recipients is MentorKids USA, which
provides community service opportunities,
educational classes and arts activities for
children in South Phoenix. Six promising
South Phoenix High School students were
chosen as mentors for the 2016-2017
year. They will provide counseling and
tutoring to K-8 kids in afterschool and
summer camp settings through iLead, a
teen leadership program modeled after
New Jersey’s successful StreetLeader
Program.
We also awarded grants of up to $10,000
to eight other community organizations
including Kitchen on the Street, Native
American Connection and Assistance
League of Phoenix, which provides new
school clothing and backpacks to children
