Kia ora and welcome
We are thrilled to be able to welcome two new part me staff members to our museum educaon
team. Wharekahika Clarke and Rebecca Moore . They are both trained primary school teachers and
bring a wealth of knowledge in visual arts and Te Reo Maori to our educaon service. Please make
them feel welcome if they take your class for a session in the near future.
We have a very busy and excing 6 months ahead. Sunlight - Ihi Kōmaru,
a hands on science exhibion all about our star the sun connues on unl
week 3 of Term 3 .
We also have a strong focus on visual arts. We are now able to teach art
classes in term me over at the Children’s Art House (the old gardener’s
co.age here in the Government Gardens) these are either completely
free or require a gold coin donaon for resources, please enquire at me
of booking. These specific medium classes are designed to upskill
students and support teachers with their visual arts
knowledge parcularly at primary and intermediate level.
We can now cater for students in bilingual, Rumaki or Kura Kaupapa by
delivering programmes in Te Reo Māori. Please let us know at me of booking if this is your preference.
Please remember to bring along addional adults as some schools are
barely making our suggested seven students to one adult rao. We
understand that for some parents it can be hard to take me off due to
work commitments. Fewer adults with a group lessen s the learning experience and does not comply with new health and safety legislaon.
Due to popular demand we are, for a few sessions in term four only able
to offer very special behind the scenes tours of our museum collecon or
pataka. Condions apply please book early as this is a rare opportunity
not available to the general public.
Start talking to your syndicates about their 2017 long term plans. All the
way from Florence in Italy, Da Vinci Mechanics in term one 2017 will fill
fast so book early to avoid disappointment.
Our sincere thanks go to the Ngā Whakaue Educaon Endowment Trust Board for their connued
support for our free museum bus.
The trust appreciates any le.ers of thanks they receive from schools so please connue with these.
Please remember to acknowledge the Trust in your noce home
to parents to make your school community aware of their generous giF.
