From mini farms to large grain and mega livestock operations, Fayette County
has a rich heritage of agriculture.
With a legacy in Agriculture on the farm, we are now
growing with value-added production facilities that
utilize locally grown products.
:: MIDLAND ACRES This popular, premier Standard
bred horse farm, boarding and veterinary clinic in
Bloomington is experiencing a second life by supplying
high quality equines to nearby racetracks with casino.
Midland Acres actually provides Fayette County with
the highest number of horses of any Ohio county, including
Standard bred Stallions, Broodmares, Yearlings and
Weanlings. In fact, during a typical breeding season, there
are hundreds of mares delivered to the farm from all

:: GRAIN CROPS The majority of farmland in Fayette
County has been converted from diversified livestock
into large-scale grain production. Soils are some of the
most productive anywhere in Ohio, which accounts for
over 90% of our 243,000 acres in agricultural production.
The majority of the 94,400 acres planted are corn for
grain, which yields a harvest of nearly 15 million bushels

(2007 figures). Soybeans and winter wheat make up the
majority of the remaining crops planted..
:: ETHANOL PLANT The Valero Renewables-Bloomingburg
Plant is a bio-refinery sitting on approximately 65 acres.
Since 2008, this facility converts entire kernels of corn
into ethanol or distillers grains. Ethanol is an environmentally
friendly, high-octane renewable fuel produced by
fermenting converted corn start with yeast, and is used
as a blending agent with gasoline.
The Bloomingburg plant annually processes nearly 43
million bushels of corn into 120 million gallons of denatured
ethanol and 370,000 tons of distillers grains co-products.
:: PET FOOD PLANT Mars Petcare US, Inc. is located
in the Washington Court House Industrial Park and
employs about 120 people. It produces Fancy Feast Cat
Food, Diabetic Dog Food, Evo Cat Food, Hills Cat Food
and Solid Gold Dog Food. The majority of raw materials
used for their products is delivered directly by local farm

VACATION SHOWPLACE This 2,337-acre resort park
features a modern lodge, cottages, campground, a 1,700foot swimming beach, seven picnic areas, plus two boat
launch ramps for the 1,277-acre reservoir. Fish for early
spring includes: saugeye, catfish, largemouth bass and
crappie. Seven hiking trails are within the park. Full hookup campgrounds. In winter, you can also enjoy snowmobiling.

Living in Sugarland, Texas in the 1980’s, Vicki and Steve
Horney traveled the southern, central and eastern regions
of the state as often as possible, enjoying a variety of

BIGGER BADDER & BETTER
:: FIRE IN THE SKY is presented by Fayette Fire In The
Sky, a not for profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization
which is comprised of more than 25 dedicated volunteer
members serving the community.
Each year, the organization starts the planning phase of
the annual Independence Day celebration in early January
and the process grows in intensity up to the day of the
celebration. The celebration and fireworks display are
funded each year by these activities: donations from
businesses, corporations, individuals, and civic
organizations. “Fire In The Sky” also receives a substantial
grant annually from Fayette County Travel and Tourism
(a key funding component). WVNU Radio 97.5 FM is also
a key player and a huge asset in fund raising and in show
production each year, and also airs the soundtrack for
the show.
Fire In The Sky is presented to the public free of charge.
Celebrate the 4th of July holiday with us at the Fayette
County Fairgrounds in Washington Court House.

:: COUNTRY FAIR The Fayette County Fair has been
an event that families anticipate every July for over 136
years. The fair is the place where the youth of the
community bring their 4-H, FFA and other projects for
judging. Whether its livestock, art, cooking, sewing, gun
safety, creative writing, or other projects, the fair is the
culmination of a years’ worth of work for the youth. The
open class competitions allow adults of the county to
display their talents in some friendly competition.
One of the fair’s signature attractions is the food booths
by local churches and livestock producers. Add in great
rides by Amusements of America and nightly entertainment
in the grandstand and this is one county fair you won’t
want to miss! The Fayette County Agricultural Society
has been doing renovations to the grounds in recent
years to better house and display all the entries and they
invite anyone who enjoys a day at the fair to come take
in the sights, sounds and flavors of the Fayette County

AIR BALLOON GLOW… is held the last Saturday in
June at the Fayette County Airport from 11:00 am to
11:00 pm. Toast to Summer features wine for tasting from
more than 10 Ohio Wineries, unique creations from over
40 art vendors and a beer garden. Pre-sold hot air
balloon rides take place in the early morning and the
event ends with a hot air balloon glow.

the Sunday after Thanksgiving marks
the beginning of the holiday season in
Washington Court House and Fayette
County. The annual Christmas parade
rolls through downtown Washington
Court House in the afternoon as the
