Civic Theatre of Allentown is a 501c3 non-profit organization with over 80 years of history in the Lehigh Valley.
Started by two Morning Call reporters in 1927 as “Civic Little Theatre,” the current day Civic Theatre of Allentown
relies on the creativity, passion and inspiration of the staff members, the board and the thousands of volunteers
that are mutually invested in Civic’s growth and success.
Civic is dedicated to producing live theatre of high standards of artistic excellence, capitalizing on the physicality,
presence and immediacy of theatre as an art form and providing a
creative outlet and training ground for local artists dedicated to the
theatre as an avocation.
Finally, Civic is committed to being the premiere non-commercial
film venue in the Lehigh Valley, showing the latest releases and
best selection of award-winning art films, including documentaries,
American independent and international films that are an alternative
to commercial film cinema, keeping in mind its diverse audience.
Civic Theatre of Allentown is the Lehigh Valley’s premiere community
theatre. It is a place to experience extraordinary productions in a
500-seat theatre centrally located in the West End of Allentown.

While most of us slow down over the summer
months – hit by the sweltering heat of those
lazy, hazy days and slowed down by relaxing
family vacations – Civic Theatre has gone full
steam ahead to make some subtle (and not
too subtle) changes to the theatre’s facilities.
color magazine is an exceptional way to directly reach 12,000+
potential customers – right in their own homes!
New cushions have been added to all of the seats in Theatre
514 – giving patrons added comfort and support. The walls
in the 514 have been repainted with a fresh coat of paint.
In addition, the white frosted-film has been removed
from the windows in the Theatre 514 lobby -- giving the
room a more open feel. In the coming months, additional
changes will be made to Theatre514 to improve the overall
experience for our patrons.
Visitors to Civic Theatre will immediately notice that the
front of the landmark 19th Street Theatre has been spruced
up with a colorful coat of paint to the exterior doors, poster
boxes and door jams. New signage has been added to direct
visitors to the upstairs costume shop and rehearsal halls,
where a mini-makeover is also taking place that includes
a fresh coat of paint on the walls and floor and new blinds
on the windows.

More importantly, after many attempts over the last few
years, contractors have successfully diagnosed and repaired
the leaks in the theatre roof that have caused damage to the
some of the building’s ornate plasterwork. This milestone is
the first in a process that will allow for a more comprehensive
rehabilitation of Civic’s main theatre. The theatre is also in
currently replacing the last of the building’s fuel-guzzling
boilers with a gas-electric HVAC system to service the
theatre’s rehearsal studio and classroom space.
glossy magazine is direct mailed to more than 10,000 of our top
patrons. The majority of our patrons live in desirable areas of the
Lehigh Valley including Allentown’s West End, South Whitehall
Township, Macungie, Orefield, Emmaus, Center Valley and
Saucon Valley. Additional copies are circulated throughout the
region at area businesses and to audiences at the theatre.

few years, contractors have successfully diagnosed
and repaired the leaks in the theatre roof that have
caused damage to the some of the building’s ornate
plasterwork. This milestone is the first in a process that
will allow for a more comprehensive rehabilitation of
Civic’s main theatre. The theatre is also in currently
replacing the last of the building’s fuel-guzzling boilers
with a gas-electric HVAC system to service the theatre’s
rehearsal studio and classroom space.
Civic is also looking at several short-term facilities
projects that may include the repainting and
refurbishment of the Marquis; replacement of
windows on the theatre’s façade; replacement of old
and porous gutters on Theatre514; and refurbishment
of the awnings on the 19th Street Theatre. Civic is
also seriously studying the impact of digital cinema
and devising a plan to improve its projection system
and bring it in line with the demands of the new
digital age and current film distribution network.
A comprehensive plan is being developed for the
refurbishment of the theatre’s walls, ceiling and
seating, and a full capital campaign is expected in
the next few years.
All of these projects – whether they involve simple
maintenance or a major capital investment – require
significant funding, volunteer hours and planning.
Patrons interested in assisting Civic in the ongoing
maintenance and revitalization of its facilities may
call interim Managing Director, Michael Traupman,
at 610-433-8903.
While most of us slow down over the summer
months – hit by the sweltering heat of those
lazy, hazy days and slowed down by relaxing
family vacations – Civic Theatre has gone full
steam ahead to make some subtle (and not
too subtle) changes to the theatre’s facilities.
New cushions have been added to all of the seats
in Theatre 514 – giving patrons added comfort and
support. The walls in the 514 have been repainted
with a fresh coat of paint. In addition, the white
frosted-film has been removed from the windows
in the Theatre 514 lobby -- giving the room a more
open feel. In the coming months, additional changes
will be made to Theatre514 to improve the overall
experience for our patrons.
Visitors to Civic Theatre will immediately notice that
the front of the landmark 19th Street Theatre has
been spruced up with a colorful coat of paint to the
exterior doors, poster boxes and door jams. New
signage has been added to direct visitors to the
upstairs costume shop and rehearsal halls, where
a mini-makeover is also taking place that includes
a fresh coat of paint on the walls and floor and new
blinds on the windows.
More importantly, after many attempts over the last
few years, contractors have successfully diagnosed
and repaired the leaks in the theatre roof that have
caused damage to the some of the building’s ornate
plasterwork. This milestone is the first in a process that
will allow for a more comprehensive rehabilitation of
Civic’s main theatre. The theatre is also in currently
