Small Square Bale Handling
Small Square Bale Handling Introduction 2 Why Small Squares? In the past 35 years we have seen a lot of changes in the way hay is handled. Much hay production has moved from using small square bales handled by hand, to large round or square bales moved with machinery. While farms have become larger and fewer, the number of small square bales fed to hobby animals has increased dramatically. The small square bale hay customer is now a busy professional who needs someone who understands his or her needs. These needs often include curing and off-site storage; this increases the labor intensity of the hay producer, thereby demanding a better bale handling system. The Kuhns accumulator system is designed to help these farmers minimize the labor involved in producing small square bales. Our accumulator has been developed on our farm in today’s market climate, which we have found demands a bale size that varies greatly from producer to producer. Our accumulators can easily handle from 35 to 80 lb. bales, allowing you to increase the marketability of your bales. Satisfied customers of the Kuhns system have operations ranging from 1000 to 130,000 bales per year. Whether you are producing hay for your large dairy operation, or simply for resale, there is now an economical solution to minimize the labor in small square bale handling. We provide economical and versatile handling of small square bales. The Kuhns hay accumulator system allows you to arrange nearly any length or weight of small square bales into group configurations that fit your operation; and with eight models available, the choice is yours. The general concept of the accumulator system is to collect the bales as they exit the baler and arrange them into groups to facilitate their retrieval, which is done with a grabber mounted on a loader. The grabber enables the farmer to stack the bales on a wagon, move the bales from the wagon into storage, and finally from storage to a delivery vehicle. www.kuhnsmfg.com 3 Accumulators The Kuhns Hay Accumulator: can handle 14" x 18" bales from 32” to 48” long and whatever density is needed with no adjustments to the accumulator itself. You can make your bales the way you want them and Kuhns Mfg can help you handle them. This hay accumulator differs from many others in that all you need to hook up is a hitch pin. It is simple, no wires, cables, or hydraulics to hook up. With many sizes and options, we can meet your specific needs. Baling hay in small squares has many advantages in storage, curing, quality, marketability, control in feeding the animals to mention a few. Quality Features The Design: The innovative design of the accumulator allows it to be fully automatic without the use of hydraulics or electronics. It works using otherwise wasted pressure from the baler plunger to push the bales to the top of the front chute. Then as gravity moves the bales downward, the last bale in each row swings a gate to open the next row. The last bale in the grab opens the back gate. As the accumulator unloads itself, springs and counter weights return all of the gates back to their starting position, ready for another grab in good time before the next bale comes. Zero user intervention required. You can do it all from your tractor seat. All you need to setup the baler is to bolt on the included chamber extension, ensure correct hitch-pin position and loosen the pressure in the bale chamber to compensate for the back pressure caused by pushing the bales up the chute. No extra pressure is applied to the plunger and the twisting action of the chute does not deform the bales. The Quality: The accumulator is built from the ground up as a durable machine. As farmers, we understand that machines need to be dependable, day after day. One of the ways we did this is to make the machine as simple as possible. We engineer our machines to handle the heaviest use. Using heavy gauge steel, stainless steel springs, and powder coating, they are designed to work well and even look good for many years. Our machines have logged thousands of hours in many different areas, terrains, and types of hay. As a company, we stand behind our products, ensuring that you as a customer have a happy, productive experience. A heavy duty dolly wheel allows the Accumulator to nicely follow along. The belted base chute adapts your baler to feed the bales directly up the chute. The automatic tail gate opens and latches automatically without the use of hydraulics. www.kuhnsmfg.com
