AS A LEADING ADVOCATE OF HIGHER EDUCATION AND TO

LARGEST
SCHOLARSHIP ASSISTANCE PROGRAM IN THE AREA. OVER
THE PAST TWENTY SIX YEARS, THE AASF PROGRAM HAS
AWARDED OVER 1,200 STUDENTS OF HIGH ACADEMIC
DISTINCTION OVER $1.3 MILLION DOLLARS IN
SCHOLARSHIPS. BEING AWARE OF THE IMPORTANCE AND
NECESSITY OF HIGHER EDUCATION, AND THE HARDSHIPS AND OBSTACLES STUDENTS ARE FACING DUE TO EXORBITANT
TUITION LEVELS, THE LAHC HAS ESTABLISHED THE AASF TO ENCOURAGE AND HELP THESE YOUNG ACHIEVERS TO
PURSUE THEIR ACADEMIC DREAMS. THE MISSION OF THIS PROGRAM IS TO PROVIDE SCHOLARSHIPS TO DESERVING
AND UNDERPRIVILEGED STUDENTS WHO POSSESS THE SKILLS AND DESIRE TO SEEK HIGHER EDUCATION; INCLUDING
HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES, COLLEGE UNDERGRADUATES AND GRADUATE STUDENTS. THE AMOUNT OF THE

COUNTY. THE LAHC IS COMMITTED TO SERVING THE NEEDS OF
OUR CHILDREN AND STUDENTS SO THEY MAY FURTHER THEIR

ITEMS THEY NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL.
HEALTHY LIVING PROGRAM
THE HEALTHY LIVING PROGRAM IS FOCUSED ON EMPOWERING CHILDREN
IN UNDERPRIVILEGED COMMUNITIES TO TAKE CONTROL OF THEIR OWN
HEALTH AT THE EARLIEST AGE POSSIBLE. THROUGH A COMBINATION OF
COOKING AND FITNESS CLASSES, CHILDREN LEARN HANDS-ON ABOUT THE
NUTRITIONAL CONTENT OF FOOD AND HOW DIET DIRECTLY IMPACTS
THEIR HEALTH.
ALSO,
CHILDREN ARE TAUGHT ABOUT THE CRITICAL
CONNECTION BETWEEN DIET, FITNESS, AND SCHOOL PERFORMANCE.

FEEDING OUR NEIGHBORS
WITH
THE FLUCTUATION OF THE ECONOMY AND THE DIRE
STRAITS FAMILIES ARE PUT IN, THERE ARE MANY WHO WONDER
WHERE THEIR NEXT MEAL IS COMING FROM.
IS SOMETHING
HOWEVER, FOR
FOR MANY, THIS
WE MAY NEVER HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT;
THE FAMILIES IN NEED IN OUR COMMUNITY,
THIS IS A MAJOR CONCERN AND THE LIFE OF THEIR LOVED ONES
DEPENDS ON IT.
THE LAHC
HAS HELPED HUNDREDS OF
HUNGRY CHILDREN AND ADULTS WHO RELY ON ASSISTANCE
FROM PROGRAMS SUCH AS THE
FEEDING
OUR
NEIGHBORS
PROGRAM.
WINTER CLOTHING DRIVE
IN
ORDER TO BRING WARMTH TO THE HEARTS AND BODIES OF
THOSE LESS FORTUNATE, THE LAHC ORGANIZES A CLOTHING DRIVE
WHICH WOULD AID THOSE SUFFERING DURING THE WINTER
SEASON.
MONETARY
DONATIONS ARE COLLECTED ANNUALLY TO
SUPPORT THIS CAUSE AND OUR VOLUNTEERS HOST DRIVES AT AREA
ORGANIZATIONS AND INSTITUTIONS TO GENERATE SUPPORT AND
RECEIVE DONATIONS TO DISSEMINATE TO THOSE IN NEED.
THIS IS
AN EFFORT THAT IS WORKED ON ALL YEAR ROUND, WITH THE
UNDERSTANDING THAT THE COLD AND BITTER WINTERS ARE A TIME
FOR US TO HELP THOSE LESS FORTUNATE PREPARE FOR THE IN CLIMATE WEATHER CONDITIONS THEY MAY FACE.
HOLIDAY TURKEY DRIVE
IT IS HARD TO IMAGINE THANKSGIVING WITHOUT A ROASTED TURKEY AS THE
CENTERPIECE OF THIS TRADITIONAL MEAL THAT IS A TIME TO BRING FAMILIES
AND FRIENDS TOGETHER.
YET
WITH RISING FOOD COSTS, AND THE
ECONOMICAL BURDEN THAT MANY FAMILIES HAVE TO SUCCUMB TO, A

GRADES.
THEREFORE, WE HAVE ESTABLISHED A TUTORING AND MENTORSHIP

WIDE RANGE OF SUBJECTS.
THROUGH
TUTORING, SOCIAL AND EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES, PARTICIPANTS OF THE
PROGRAM WILL BE ABLE TO IMPROVE ON AREAS OF WEAKNESSES, PREPARE FOR THEIR FUTURE CAREERS, AS WELL AS
BUILD A GREATER LEVEL OF SELF-CONFIDENCE
HOPE FOR THE CURE
AS MANY CHILDREN ARE DIAGNOSED WITH ILLNESSES AND SADLY HAVE TO
ENDURE SPENDING THE HOLIDAYS IN THE CONFINES OF A HOSPITAL ROOM,
THE LAHC REALIZES THE IMPORTANCE OF GIVING THESE CHILDREN THE
HOPE OF A HAPPY HOLIDAY. OUR VOLUNTEERS ORGANIZE BAKE SALES,
SPORTING EVENTS AND VARIOUS ACTIVITIES TO GENERATE DONATIONS SO
THE LAHC CAN PURCHASE GIFTS FOR HOSPITALIZED CHILDREN AND SHARE
WITH THEM A CELEBRATION OF THE HOLIDAY SEASON.
TO INSTILL HOPE IN THE HEARTS OF THESE SWEET
WITH THE EFFORT
YOUTH, THE LAHC
DEDICATES RESOURCES TO ENSURE THEY ARE LAUGHING AND ENJOYING
THE TIME WITH PEOPLE WHO WANT TO SEE THEM SMILE.
THOUGH WE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO EASE THEIR PHYSICAL
PAIN, IT IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO EASE THE EMOTIONAL STRAIN OF DEALING WITH AN ILLNESS AND NOT BEING IN THE
