The Dearborn Rotary X-Ray - The Rotary Club of Dearborn
September 10, 2015 The Dearborn Rotary X-Ray Jim Ives, Editor Thursday’s Meeting Summary St., just north of Michigan Avenue. Weather and gathering were great. There was lots of great potluck food and a good turn-out of Rotarians, family members, and friends. PP Rick Enright chose the picnic over an awards gala with Director Steven Spielberg! Picnic area was well-shaded and picnic tables had table clothes. Bob Gleichauf brought his grill and was chief chef of hamburgers, hot dogs, and brats. Serious fire flare-ups were handled well. His wife Janet provided an assist with other picnic supplies, such as an inflatable icefilled serving tray. Chilled tray kept her good potato salad and other cold dishes safe on this summer evening. Lots of other picnic food was served. There were several Cole slaw salads, several broccoli salads, great genuine baked beans by Kathleen Gapa, chips, all kinds of condiments to go with the hamburgers, brats, and hot dogs, a beverage table, plus a super dessert table. Waseem Younis and his wife, Laurene, brought a fruit-topped “Rotary Cake” that was quickly eaten. Great cookies, brownies, and pastries from Shatila’s Bakery were in good supply. Proud Tartar John Paepke stopped by on his bicycle. Think most everyone else drove. Hassen Hammoud, who lives in close proximity, possibly walked to the event. Bob Young, who also attended, said he use to be a regular jogger. Exchange student, Nune, from Thailand was there with Jim Thorpe and his family. Think PP Jim was suffering from a little soreness from his past weekend’s 380 mile bicycle ride between Lansing and Mackinaw City. Evening was filled with food and conversation. President Merritt was on hand to see that the social event ran smoothly. The mosquitoes were not biting. Crowd dispersed as dusk approached. It raises money for clubs to use with world and community projects. Our club has always had a foursome playing in this event, but this year we would like to see at least 3 foursomes. If you would like to play, please contact Roger Miller so we get a count as to our level of participation.
