Andrew brings 12 years of Mounds View Public Schools experience to Pinewood. He is currently serving as dean of students at Edgewood Middle School. I know you will hear from Andrew in the coming weeks as he prepares his transition to Pinewood. I hope you will join me in welcoming him to Pinewood. We continue to access EVERY student's educational needs on a continual basis and to place, develop and support your student as to make sure he/her is challenged educationally. We are thankful for the resources, staffing and funding the district provides to Pinewood to make sure all of these programs continue to flourish. The Pinewood Staff takes great pride in making sure YOUR child is met and taught exactly where he/she is at. MARK YOUR CALENDARS - IRONDALE KNIGHTS BASEBALL YOUTH DAY IS SATURDAY (4/30) at 1PM! Congratulations The Irondale drumline finished 7th place out of 59 groups in their class at the Drumline National Championships this past week in Dayton, Ohio. The 36 member group advanced twice during the competition, placing 3rd and 6th respectively in their first two performances. In their finals performance, the drumline scored a season high 92.65, only .6 out of 4th place. 2016 marks the 3rd time in Irondale's history that the drumline placed in the top 10 in the country, having placing 3rd in 2003 and 9th in 2012. The 2016 drumline's show entitled "A Love of Thousands" was popular among both fans and judges all season long. LEARN HOW TO PLAY VIOLIN, VIOLA, or CELLO The Spring Orchestra Concert/5th grade tour will take place on Friday, May 13th. 5th Graders from Sunnyside and Pinewood will tour between both buildings, and the 4th grade orchestra at each school will perform at their home school. The concerts will be at 10:00 at Pinewood, 1:30 at Sunnyside, and a final evening concert with all 4-5 grade orchestras from both schools for family and friends at 7pm at Bethel College. To Students in Grade 3: Students who have finished grade 3 may learn to play a stringed instrument this summer. Orchestra is great fun and builds skills for a lifetime of enjoying music! Save July 5 – August 4 on your family’s calendar. Lessons are held Monday through Thursday (4 days per week) for one hour each day in the morning between 7 a.m. and 2PM at Turtle Lake, Island Lake, Valentine Hills, Bel Air, Sunnyside, or Pinewood Schools. Late afternoon/early evening lessons will take place between 3 and 8 p.m. at Chippewa or Irondale Schools. Our final concert is scheduled for Wednesday, August 3 at 6:30 PM at Irondale High School. A final celebration is August 4 in the morning at Chippewa. Beginning students may register for classes even if summer camp or family vacation occurs during the same time frame. Beginners (any student going into 4th or 5th grade who have not orchestra experience) register for lessons, enroll in classes, and arrange to rent a violin, viola, or cello between 5:00 and 6:30 PM on the dates listed below: Orchestra Registration Dates and Locations Tuesday, May 10 at Turtle Lake Elementary School Thursday, May 12 at Island Lake School Monday, May 16 at Irondale High School Beginner classes are filled on a first come basis. Students may register at any school. More detailed information about orchestra will be sent home with all third graders in May. Gunnar placed 1st for Pinewood in the District Invitational Tournament and 2nd in the Pinewood In House Tournament. Fisher placed 2nd for Pinewood in the District Invitational and 3rd in the Pinewood In House Drew placed 3rd for Sunnyside in the District Invitational and 1st in the Pinewood In House Addie placed 3rd for Pinewood in the District Invitational.
