Newsletter No. 17 - 23rd July
Greetings,
Things are getting very hectic at Tyalla at the moment as we gear up for a truly tremendous term at our fantastic school.
Last week we celebrated NAIDOC Week at Tyalla. This was a really enjoyable time and it was great to acknowledge the local
Aboriginal culture. Thank you to everyone that came into school and made this a huge success, to Glenda Perkins who
co-ordinated these events and to Centrelink who volunteered to assist on the Friday. Your support is very much appreciated
and I thank you for this.
This week we are focusing on the importance of our environment with a particular focus on school beautification. To
promote the care of our natural environment, Tyalla will celebrate National Tree Day by cleaning up our school grounds and
gardens.
On Friday we will be planting some trees and shrubs around the school. I would like to thank Woolworths in Park Avenue
who have generously donated trays of plants for us to use here on the school site.
Next week is that extra little bit special as we celebrate Education Week and use the opportunity to showcase the wonderful
achievements and talents of the students at our school. Each family will receive an invitation to attend events shortly. Below
is a brief summary of some of these happenings. We would love to have your support and look forward to a very positive
time.
Monday
This is the grand opening for Education Week in Coffs Harbour and we will be celebrating with a Concert
at Park Beach Plaza where local public schools will be showcased. We will be treated to performances
from our Drummers, Guitarists, Dancers and Hoopers commencing at 11.40am.
Tuesday
Dance classes will also perform at school for interested parents. The following will be on show:
12:00pm – KMW
12:40pm – 6RO
1:50pm – 3SF
2:30pm – 5AR
Thursday
We will be having a Bike Safety day at nearby Lions Safety Park to highlight the benefits of physical
exercise for a healthy mind and body, but also to focus on the importance of safety and bike
maintenance. This will be for children in Years 4, 5 and 6 and will include an information session by the
Police.
Friday
Education Week Assembly on Friday morning at approx. 9:20am. This will be a time of reflection and
acknowledgement. We will be handing out a number of awards and will also be entertained by some of
our student performance groups.
Following the Assembly, parents may wish to visit their child’s classroom and see some of the great
work that is going on throughout our school.
