Thank you for taking the time to look at the Pilgrim A C Cobra Replica
On the following pages we hope we can give you a brief oversight of what you can expect
from Pilgrim Motorsports, our commitment to customer service, and our products.
Pilgrim became an incorporated company in 1985, and was founded by Den Tanner. His
ethos was to provide an affordable replica A C Cobra that would reach out to the dreams of
those who could not afford the real thing, and let’s face it, that applies to most of us.
Originally designed as an easy to build kit with all the parts coming from one donor car, this
iconic model is now available as a “Factory Build” at extraordinarily low cost considering
what you get for your money.
At Pilgrim, we know that it is important to you that you get the car you want, not the car we
think you want. So, to a large degree, our trained and knowledgeable staff like to spend time
with our customers to ensure that we have every little detail covered. Of course, we are
limited to what we can fit inside the body shell, so if you want the space found in a Bentley
Continental, we suggest you buy a Bentley Continental. However, if you are looking for the
ultimate 60’s two seater sports roadster, read on.
Let’s start at the beginning by taking a look at the back bone of the car, its chassis. Pilgrim
are justifiably proud of their chassis, both design and strength. Following Pilgrim’s Mk1 Cobra Replica in 1997, which was built on a ladder frame chassis, we very quickly learned our
lesson and, unlike many other kit manufacturers, promptly swapped to the much stronger,
and far more rigid, box frame semi-monocoque design. This means that if you manage to
park with one wheel on the curb, the flex in the chassis is not so great that you can’t open the
doors
At Pilgrim Motorsports we take your safety and welfare as one of our major priorities when
developing and manufacturing any parts used in the build of our cars.
The need for change coincided with European uprising concerning the safety of cars in the
event of side impact, and the birth of Volvo’s revolutionary side impact protection system
which was first seen in 1991. You can note that Pilgrim have two steel bars running down
the entire length of both driver and passenger doors.
The changes mean that Pilgrim now offer a semi-monocoque chassis with serious side impact protection at floor level, double side impact bars through both driver and passenger
doors which are connected directly to Folded steel uprights on the chassis. If that were not
enough, the 1.6mm fluted floors welded to the inner chassis rail act as a cushion in the event
of an accident. In a nut shell, that equates to a combined 8mm of galvanised steel which flexes and gives in a way that leaves the passenger compartment well and truly intact.

resin and a dollop of gel-coat
simply cannot compete, and that is
only the side.
Take a look at the front of our
chassis. Note how the angles of the
bottom rails have been carefully
designed so that in the event of a
head on collision, the entire front
end of the car folds up, forcing the
engine in an upward direction by
way of the engine foot plates, as
opposed to through the bulkhead whereby you wind up with a few hundred pounds of V8 on
your lap.
Steel bulkheads offer further protection, and just to make sure it does not rust out from under
your feet, we have made it the norm to galvanise our chassis’ as part of the build and value
added package.
All our chassis’ are built on site by highly experienced welders using certified materials that
conform to all British and European standards. Constructed on a tried and tested jig, every
chassis produced is identical and guaranteed to meet the demands of every day driving
Our bodies are considered to be among the best in the business. Don’t just take our word for
it, read the opening passages of the Haynes Manual for Kit Cars. The Gel-Coat finish* must
always be considered a cheap alternative to Paint, but can be polished to a high gloss shine.
Gel-Coat is only available in a small selection of colours (Black, White, Navy Blue, Red,
Green), but these colour have been especially selected over the years to limit fading. Also
available in a grey sanding gel finish, especially if you have painting in mind.
Like our Chassis’, all our bodies are made in house by highly qualified and experienced
Laminators, and all care and effort has gone into our unique layup formula to eliminate as
many gel-coat finish problems as possible. With a Pilgrim Body you can rest assured that
you are buying one of the best bodies in the business.

Our Base Model is the well equipped 3.5 litre V8.
The engine and 5 speed
manual gearbox is lifted from
the Rover SDi which, some of
you may be aware, was
originally developed by Buick
in the USA. The entire engine
and gearbox are then fully
overhauled, with every last
seal being replaced, by our
magic engine supplier Jim
Robinson of JRV8’s in
Northern Ireland (advert at the
back of this brochure). The
engine arrives at our factory
complete with all the
trimmings, and ready for the
key to be turned.
Delivering a standard 180bhp (min),
and being fuelled by a 4 pot
Edelbrock carburettor and inlet
manifold, you will discover that the
balance of power and handling to be
spot on as you propel your way
through the gears, and the pulsing
heart of that V8 engine reverberates
through the 3” Stainless Steel Side
Pipes, which are just a couple of feet
away from your ears.
For just a few quid more, you can
garnish your engine with a selection
of chrome goodies including rocker
covers, alternator and thermostat
housing. If not, don’t worry, you get
that big chrome air filter lid as
standard.
We don’t skimp on the interior either. Even our base
model boasts fluted leather
bucket seats, cushioned
leather trimmed dashboard
and door cards, and leather
gear stick and handbrake
gaiters, with piped edge carpets and a great variety of
colours to choose from, we
are pretty certain we can
seat you in comfort. Alloy
grips on the gear stick and
handbrake and a wood riveted steering wheel all add a
touch of class.

engine information.

All driver controls
are within easy
reach, and as from
2016 all our cars will be fitted with the exclusive Pilgrim Cobra Start Button. We have also
added a descreetly hidden 12v Auxillary output for charging your phone or running your Sat
Nav. Tucked neatly behind the dash board to steer nicely away from a modern accessory in
your classic car.
The interior of your car is
where your mind can run
riot. Moving away from
our standard options, we
can add a leather tunnel
top, contrast colour
stitching, classic 60’s diamond stitching, different
switch options and clashing or contrasting colours
of leather or vinyl to suit
your taste.
With a host of exterior
bright work to enhance
the shine. Chrome and
alloys to bring the period to life, and 15” Halibrand replica wheels sporting balloon tyres and
topped off with shining centre spinners, the Pilgrim Cobra replica sits hunkered down in
readiness for you to unleash the ultimate roar as you rev the engine…
