Leonpacher Mr. Robert Mahtook Dr. Andy Plauche Mr. Gus Zepernick Foundation Dear Friends of St. Thomas More Catholic High School, Established in 1983 by a group of forward thinking parents and supporters, the St. Thomas More Foundation continues its mission of enhancing the corpus of endowed funds to ensure the viability of our school now and for years to come. Over these past 29 years, the earnings from Foundation assets have been returned to the school, and total distributions from the Foundation to St. Thomas More Catholic High School from inception approaches $550,000. We are pleased to report that for the 2011-2012 fiscal year the STM Foundation received $144,959 in total endowed gifts, primarily via the Annual Fund Drive. As President, I thank all contributors, many of whom are featured throughout this Annual Report. Equally impressive is the Foundation’s contributions to the school in the 2011-2012 fiscal year, totaling $81,100, including $20,000 in tuition assistance, $16,100 in grants from named memorial funds, and this year the foundation has provided $45,000 in assistance to expand the school’s advancement office, which included the funding of new positions. The Foundation continues a strong tradition of working with the school’s leadership in advancing our shared mission of providing a quality Catholic education. Through our participation, along with the STM Advisory Council, Chancellor and Administration, in dynamic strategic planning sessions held in the spring, we have identified strategies that will help to define roles and metrics for donor development, engagement and communication. We continue to improve our outreach programs, including expanding our alumni data base and developing new avenues for participation among our STM friends, parents and supporters. The Building More - Annual Appeal 2012 is an appeal to our STM families that will directly impact our students today and well into the future. Gifts from this appeal will be dedicated to tangible items identified by the St. Thomas More Facility Committee as priority needs of our school. These items include a prayer garden, Smart Link modular desks, key card secure access system Daniel E. Gilder, President and an air conditioned school bus. The STM Foundation, consisting of our volunteer Board of Trustees, working together with our Chancellor, Administration and Advancement Office, continues to assist STM to fulfill its mission of “educating students to be seekers of truth, individuals of character, and ‘God’s servant first’.” With the continued generosity of our many benefactors, we look forward to supporting quality, Catholic education for the students of St. Thomas More Catholic High School for generations to come. Gilder, President St. Thomas More Foundation Principal Dear Friends of the STM Foundation, Thank you for taking the time to look through our annual report and for your very generous contributions. The STM Foundation holds our school’s endowment and maintains the commitment to continue to build our savings for the school’s future. Through the many generous donations, we are able to fund technology, provide scholarships, and build an endowment that will provide for our students for the years ahead. The STM Foundation Board and the STM Advisory Council have teamed together to work toward a collaborative strategic plan for our school. The new Advancement office is also working strategically to help provide for the needs of St. Thomas More Catholic High School. We will all work together to bring to fruition the strategic plan and funding for current school needs, for those identified as critical in the next three to five years, and for those that will be required of the next generation of STM students. We will focus on an annual appeal, major gifts, planned giving, special events, and a capital campaign. We will provide more information as we move forward in a planning phase in the 2012-13 academic year. I must acknowledge with gratitude the scores of hours given to STM by our Chancellor, Fr. Louis J. Richard; our STM Foundation President, Danny Gilder; and our Advisory Council President, Jimmy Mallia. These three leaders have given from their hearts to the betterment of St. Thomas More Catholic High School. Their leadership and influence has allowed our collective boards to take great strides in a single school year. Additionally, there are numerous volunteers on both boards that have also given time, talent, and treasure to both the school and the endowment. Only through such dedication and action can such tremendous work be accomplished in such a short period of time. I am grateful to be surrounded by such a committed team. At STM, we strive first to provide a high caliber Catholic education for our students. We commit to providing our students with the best possible 21st century education including global studies and critical thinking. The words of St. Thomas More are just as timely today as they were five Audrey C. The Council devoted many hours of work to bring valuable ideas, insights, and experience to the table. As a result, St. Thomas More Catholic High School is on the threshold of new growth and potential for the future. This year, the STM Advisory Council developed strategic goals to strengthen Catholic school education and ensure its future in our community. I am pleased to report that we not only met our goals, but we exceeded them. Our efforts articulated a vision for the school and provided direction that will strengthen our financial foundation for the long term. We have successfully implemented a one-on-one laptop initiative, increased our overall enrollment, and are in the process of making significant facility improvements. I would like to thank the council, our parents, and our administration for making this year a triumphant one. Remaining on the forefront of 21st century learning, the campus is entering its second year of the one-on-one laptop initiative. The administration is utilizing this technology as an effective instructional tool in their subject areas and are using this throughout their classroom curriculum. Our students have not only embraced this initiative, but have flourished as a result of their enhanced educational experience. From the support of our student-run help desk, to the implementation of the STM Affinity Program offered through LUS Fiber, we will continue to offer leadership and guidance to schools across the country. Attracting and retaining students was also a top priority of the STM Advisory Council. St. Thomas More’s reputation for actively living our mission and providing high quality Catholic education programs has allowed us to effectively communicate this to prospective families. The administration is continuously at work forming our students in their faith and providing them with the knowledge and life skills to assume an active and positive role in the community. As a result of our combined efforts, student enrollment has increased for the 2012-2013 school year, proving that our mission to be “seekers of truth, individuals of character, and God’s servant first” is treasured. “Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in Jimmy Mallia, President conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.” Advisory Council (Timothy 4:12) Reflecting back at my time on the STM Advisory Council, I am sincerely blessed to have been afforded this opportunity to serve. I have made many friendships with exceptional community leaders and built lasting relationships with each person on the Council.
