“Building the Lancair Super ES”
~ Bill Call and Duane Allen
Derived from the award-winning, world-record setting Lancair IV, the ES and
Super ES are the result of nearly 10 years of research, innovation and pilot input.
The planes feature a high climb rate, long endurance, slow landing speed and
exceptional comfort in a very elegant design. For our Feb. 11 meeting, we are
privileged to have what promises to be an informative and entertaining presentation by EAA members Bill Call and Duane Allen on building their pristine Super
ES, which will be on display on the ramp. Their PowerPoint presentation will
include a discussion of the construction milestones on the 8.5 year, 4,000-plus
hour project, test flight and the amazing glass cockpit.

General Membership Meeting
Hangar J-6, Hayward Executive Airport
Thursday, January 14, 2010
Call to Order
In President Bud Field and V.P. Randy Parent’s absence, Secretary/Treasurer Ian Marsh called the
meeting to order at 8:15 p.m. and welcomed the 20 members and guests.
Membership
The Christmas/Holiday party at Paradiso restaurant was most successful, with about 40 members
and guests attending.
Ian invited all to renew their Chapter memberships. Annual dues are still $15.
Ian thanked Bob Polehla for the running the barbecue under difficult circumstances.
Pat Polehla will be coordinating this year’s EAA B-17 visit, scheduled for April 30-May 2. We
will again be co-sponsoring with Chapter 20. Ground volunteers will be needed.
Young Eagles
Nickie Utvick, Young Eagles coordinator, has decided to step aside after two years’ service. Ian
thanked for her excellent and dedicated work for the program.
Pat Polehla is the new coordinator. Her e-mail address is: [email protected].
Phone: 510-703-1466.
The December 5 rally was most successful, with 37 youths flown. The January 30 rally was postponed to February 27 because of weather and other issues.
After several communications with EAA Headquarters, efforts to invite Capt. “Sully” Sullenberger
to a rally this year were unsuccessful. We shall try again in 2011.
After discussion, the Chapter membership agreed to sponsor one youth’s attendance at Oshkosh
next summer. Nickie Utvick will coordinate the arrangements, and invite the youth selected to attend a future Chapter meeting with his family.
Presentation
Mark Mohnkern from the KHWD tower spoke about measures to help improve pilot safety, and
preventing runway incursions in particular. He emphasized the importance of pilots always clearly
stating their intentions.
Hayward Airport Manager Lloyd Partin gave a most informative presentation about current and
future airport development, including plans to lengthen the main runway to 6,000 feet and build
new hangars. His promise to again offer self-service fuel at a competitive price was well received
by Chapter members.
Next meeting
February 11 – “Building the Lancair Super ES” – Bill Call and Duane Allen.
Adjournment
There being no other business, the meeting adjourned at 9:40 p.m.
Respectfully submitted, Ian Marsh, secretary
