Parish Family Valentine Party Snug Inside – Snowstorm Outside!
FEBRUARY 13, 2016
~Mary Gagliano
On Saturday, the 13th of February, while it was snowy
and cold outside, over 100 St. Max parishioners gathered to
celebrate an evening of love. Hearts were warm and eyes
all aglow as we exited mass and entered the party.
“Socks of Love”
~ Lauren Lambie
Excitement built as the music started! Pizza was served
and the dance floor heated up. The children, dressed in
their Valentine finest, took over and bopped until they
dropped. The teenagers who helped set up the party, later
closed the evening learning some new dances from our DJ.
One of the highlights was the anniversary dance where
married couples were invited onto the dance floor. The DJ
called out anniversaries such as 10 years, 15, 20, 25, and
invited those couples to leave the dance floor. At fifty years,
there were at least a half dozen remaining. The dance
ended in a tie between the Bells and the Bradburys for the
longest married couple on the dance floor! Fifty-six years of
wedded bliss for each couple.
We surprised the DJ by the longevity of Catholic
marriage!
The evening was filled with fun, food, dancing and
photos for young and old alike. Thanks to all who baked
cookies, helped set up or clean up and a big thank you to all
who attended and made the evening so special! Let's do it
again next year. Ω

. Our Valentine community service project was called
“Socks of Love.” We took pairs of socks and filled them with
hygiene products. We put soap, deodorant, toothpaste,
toothbrushes, tissues and lotion in each pair. We were very
selective about what we put in each one.
We made these for the people living at
REACH, which stands for Rochester
Emergency Action Committee for the Homeless.
More photos on page 2 I was able to go to the house to serve a dinner that we
also prepared. It felt good to be able to feed the hungry
people there. They were very happy and very thankful. Ω

Jubilee Speaker Series & Lenten Mission Begins
The St. Max Lenten Mission this year is truly
special. We have combined our Parish Jubilee
celebration and Pope Francis' Jubilee Year of Mercy
into three days of inspiring speakers, March 6-8.
Jubilee Speaker Series & LENTEN MISSION -‐ Day 1 Spirituality of Ignatius
& Pope Francis
A discussion of the “Spirituality” that
moved St. Ignatius of Loyola and
that we see in Pope Francis.
The sites alternate, as one mission whose topics
are connected. Father Salmon sets the stage on
Sunday with spirituality itself. The next two days draw
lessons about living with mercy from the materials
prepared by the Pontifical Council as a resource for
living the jubilee, “Merciful like the Father.”
Note that on Sunday, refreshments follow the talk
by Fr. Salmon. Then, on Monday and Tuesday, the
programs begin with a soup supper 6-7 o’clock at the
host church. Ω
7:00 – 8:00 PM* March 6
St. Mary’s Church
5823 Walworth Road, Ontario, NY
Presented by Father Edward Salmon, S.J.
Chancellor at McQuaid Jesuit High School, he is a
former faculty member and former president.
*Refreshments follow
LENTEN MISSION -‐ Day 2 LENTEN MISSION -‐ Day 3 The Parables of Mercy
The Saints in Mercy
Delving into the parables helps us understand
Jesus’ teaching in them but above all helps
us recognize ourselves in the stories.
This topic from the Year of Mercy books
shows us how, through the saints,
ordinary lives become extraordinary.

Valentine Photo Booth
During the Valentine Party, families found their way to the Photo
Booth in the foyer. There, they tried out a variety of accessories and
alter egos: pirate, king, Cat in the Hat. When satisfied, they entered the
booth and were soon rewarded with a strip of four different poses.
Duplicates are posted on the bulletin board at St. Mary’s parish center
near the Faith Formation office. Ω
