Welcome back to term four. The new Library is
complete. We are waiting on a Certificate of
Occupancy and the new library shelving. We are
seeking the services of a community group who would
like to be involved in the shifting of our book stock.
This will be a mammoth job and you may know of a
physically fit group of people who would like to earn
money for their club by shifting the books. We will
provide appropriate book boxes and utes can be used
to go from one building to the other. The activity will
be co-ordinated by school staff and may be conducted
during school hours or on the weekend. Contact me if
you are interested.
The raffle books are due back tomorrow. Thank-you
for supporting the school with this fundraising effort.
The proceeds from the raffle will go towards making
our old libraries into re-useable classroom spaces.
These buildings are far more attractive than some of
our current classrooms and will make excellent
teaching and learning spaces for our students and
teachers.
Do you have a child starting school in 2011? Enrolment
forms are now due.
This term we have many camps, excursions and
activities happening. It can be a costly time for parents.
Some parents have adopted a payment plan through
their banks whereby they pay a small amount each
pay into the schools bank account. At the end of the
year their account balance at the school is almost clear
or in the black. If you would like to take this option up
please contact the school.

REPORT
Welcome back for the final school term for 2010. I hope
everyone has come back refreshed and determined to
complete the year in a positive manner.
Sun smart: As we enter that time of the year when the
weather warms up it is important that students ensure that
they protect themselves from the sun by wearing a hat or
by finding a shaded area during lunchtime and recess.
Year 12: There are less than 3 school weeks left for our year
12 students. On Thursday 21st October we will be holding
special final assembly for our year 12 students in the school
hall at 9:00pm. All parents are welcome to attend this
celebration. Following this our Year 12 students will focus
on revision for their final exams which begin on the 28th of
October.
Year 7 2011 Transition program: This program will be held
on Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th of October on the
secondary campus. Information regarding this will be
distributed home shortly. To assist with planning and
student placing we do require your intentions sheet for
2011 at the general office a.s.a.p.
Facial piercings: As stated in the school diary, facial rings
are not permitted.
Mock interviews: Next Thursday we will be conducting
mock interviews at the Timboon hospital for our Year 10
students. This is a very valuable experience for students to
gain a taste of the expectations and the process of applying
for a REAL job. Thank you to Mr. Deppeler, Mr. Aberline,
Ms. Nicholson and the local business identities for their
assistance and support towards this program.
Athletics: Good luck to our students competing at the
western zone finals in Geelong next Monday.
And remember: “To finish first, you must first finish”.

SEAN FITZPATRICK – ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
This term promises to be an action packed one with many
activities approaching at rapid speed such as the year four
Melbourne Camp, Year 3 Kangaroobie Camp and dare I
say it end of year celebrations. As these important events
draw closer preparation becomes a key requirement.
Talking about the activities, that will be a once in a lifetime
opportunity with school friends, will help to build up your
child‟s readiness for these kinds of events.
Could I remind parents of the need to go through the office
or a teacher when looking for students over recess and
lunch times. Having adults wandering the school can be
concerning to children and is something that staff need to
supervise.
Once again teachers are now beginning the planning stages
for class structures and child placements for the next year.
While teachers take the utmost care when considering the
placement of every child, using their understanding and
experience we do offer parents the opportunity to share
with us any extra considerations that you as parents are
aware of that may impact on your child‟s learning. For
example, there may be neighbourhood issues that can
cause distractions for children‟s learning or there may be
friendship concerns that you would like to alert us to. If
this is the case then you are able to notify me about these
issues and we will bring them into consideration when
planning our grades for 2011. Likewise if you know that
your family will not be attending Timboon P-12 School in
2011 we would greatly appreciate having this information
as it will assist in our class planning process. Please contact
me directly with your information either by phone or come
in to see me before October 17th. Once this time passes our
ability to consider your information is seriously impacted
so please make sure you contact me in the next two weeks.
Thank-you to all our parents who have made sure that
your children‟s school hat is ready for the warmer days.
There are still a few children who do not have the correct
school hat and some parts of school uniform I will be
sending home letters over the next week about this issue.
Just a little reminder PLEASE make sure items of uniform
are clearly named so that there is no question about
ownership and when they are put down they can easily be
returned to their rightful owner.

Driving lessons in Timboon.
If you have your “L‟s” and are interested in some driving
lessons with a driving school, you may wish to consider
this opportunity.
Craig Lancaster, Colac Driving School, is offering to come
to our school over 3 consecutive Wednesdays, to teach
some basic driving / parking skills.
Wednesday 13th October – in an automatic car, 20th and 27th
in a manual car. The cost for a 45 minute lesson would be
$30.
There are 9 time slots available each day, from 8:10 am
through to 4:30 pm (finishing at 5:15 pm) .
Craig will come to Timboon if there are 6 timeslots filled on
the consecutive days. Please see Mrs Nicholson to book a
time a.s.a.p if you are interested.
Please note: there is one sponsored / free drive lesson
available to all learners – Google keys2drive and follow the
prompts.
JULIE NICHOLSON, 9 -12 SUBSCHOOL LEADER
5-8 SUB-SCHOOL REPORT
Year 5-8 students are excitedly looking forward to
tomorrow tonight‟s disco run by the year 12 students. The
event will be supervised by teachers as well and, rest
assured, no child will have permission to leave the school
hall until collected by a parent at 10.30. Please be prompt
otherwise it becomes a late night for those giving up
personal time to allow this activity to run.
Year five began the practical side of their Bicycle Education
training today. Student bicycles had to undergo a parts and
size safety inspection before the program began. Every
available storage facility contains student bikes and, over
the term, students will participate in skill development and
road safety lessons which will culminate in a road „licence‟
test and ride to Peterborough in December.
Year six are continuing their „Place in Space‟ theme and
preparations for the year six play continue in earnest with
sets, costumes and stage rehearsals the focus.
Year seven chefs are inventing their own muffins following
a basic recipe. Some are learning new skills (melting,
piping) and chocolate was very popular as a requested
ingredient. The textiles group have completed their tiedyed pillow cases and are venturing into toy making with
„goodies and baddies‟. Please request to see their design
books.
A parental interest in the student design books would also
be appreciated in Technology Studies for year eight
students. They have been constructing clocks and small
lidded boxes, using wood, metal and Perspex with some
students‟ skilling up with laminating pieces of wood as an
extra design element. A great final product begins in the
research and design phase which is hard to bear for some
students who just want to get in and make. Support from
interested parent would be of benefit.
The ICAS University of NSW Mathematics, Science and
Computer Competition (open to year 3- 12 students) were
presented at the P-12 assembly today. Congratulations to
all participants; the outstanding results are printed
elsewhere in this newsletter. Results for English, Writing
and Spelling will arrive shortly. Please encourage your
child to be an annual participant in these competitions
following notices in the newsletters early each year.
Students have quickly settled back into routine and the
enjoyment of being back with friends. Please remember to
ask after homework as every student in year 5 – 8 has
homework on a weekly basis; check diaries for when this is
handed out and due as each group has timeslots that fit
with their program. Please contact your child‟s home
group teacher if this has not been recorded in their diary.
JULIE BROOMHALL, 5-8 SUBSCHOOL LEADER
P-4 SUB-SCHOOL REPORT
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a great holiday and
you have all come back refreshed and relaxed, ready to
start the last term of the year.
We have had a few new children join us at Timboon P-12
School lately. A big welcome to Josh (2K) and Aimee (4W)
Pascoe. Also to Dominic Holswich who is in 1/2P.
With the Commonwealth Games currently being
conducted, lots of grades are using this opportunity to look
at India and/or specific sports which will be featured.
This week the children have been lucky enough to attend
some lunch-time discos. These were enjoyed by everyone.
Well done to those secondary students who organised the
fun.
Preps have finished the PMP Program. I would like to add
my thanks to Maureen and Linda. Your help with this very
valuable program is much appreciated.
Grades 1 and 2 students have been learning about the
Indian culture and inventions, like the dice, bangles and
the ruler. The significance of the colours orange, white and
green on the flag is also being discussed, as well as India‟s
language and traditions. The children are also having a
taste of geography by finding India on a world map and
locating the city of New Delhi. The children are very
interested in Australia‟s athletes, following their progress
through the internet, newspapers, TV and books. In Maths
they are looking at time, in particular, o‟clock and half past
times on analogue and digital clocks.
Grades 3 and 4 are also using the Commonwealth Games
to refresh our knowledge of India and take note of the
lesser known sports.
It‟s coming up to “Camp time” for both year levels. All the
children are very excited. Grade 3‟s received their (medical)
permission and packing notes Tuesday. The Grade 4‟s need
to have their Camp fully paid for by tomorrow.
We are aware some children may have anxious moments
leading up to their camp. Please talk to your classroom
teacher if there is a concern. Often these worries can be
alleviated when we know about the issues prior to Camp.
All grades will have ample time in class to discuss and
prepare the children for their camping experience.
The year 3‟s are refreshing and expanding their knowledge
of the structure of a letter. We are using our holiday
experiences to write a letter describing a day from our
holiday.
The year 4‟s are writing about their holiday news using a
variety of poetry styles. They are focussing on „Location‟
concepts in Maths.
