Squeegees and Washers
Window Cleaning Mops
The mop is the first step in cleaning glass. The
cleaner has a bucket of water with window cleaning
solution and pre-wets the mop. The mop is wrung
out slightly by hand to avoid excessive drips and
used to wet the glass and loosen the dirt for
the squeegee step.
These white mops are offer superior
cleaning power along with good water
retention and glide capability. The blue scrubby material
on the end is used to scrub tougher stains. Mops are a
combination of a T-Bar and Sleeve (see page 4 to buy
separately).

ProTool Squeegees
The Squeege swipes away the residual soapy water leaving beautiful
spot free glass that shines. ProTool Squeeges feature lightweight,
ergonomic handles built on a sturdy stainless steel frame.
Squeegee rubber blades are changed regularly to insure the best
results. This Quick Release version of the handle facilitates easy
replacement of the rubber as well as adjustment of the handle on the
frame, the fixed handle offers a sturdy grip on the channel.

Scrubbers, Steel and Bronze Wool, Detailing Towels, Sponges
Removing foreign matter from glass and frames
Next to the squeegee itself, the scrubbers on this page are among the most commonly used tools of window cleaners. They are used to
remove stains and foreign matter from glass and other surfaces, or are used to apply and agitate hard-water stain removers. Some window
cleaners will detail with 0000 steel wool to remove dried water spots after the job is done. Sponges are used to detail frames and sills after
the glass is squeegeed clean.

Detailing
When cleaning with a mop and squeegee there will be some water left at the edge of the window and
on the frames and sills. Absorbent and Lint Free towels, sponges and chamois are the tools of the trade
for this finish detailing. If you like towels, these surgical towels make quick work of the detailing task. Be
sure to have plenty of towels available as you will need dry towels for the best detailing effort. Wash the
towels separately from others. Many cleaners prefer Sponges and chamois as you need only a couple of
them to perform the detailing task. Wet the sponge or chamois and wring the water out. Then use the
damp sponge or chamois to wipe down water left on glass, sills and frames, Rinse them with clear water
and wring out again for the next use.

Microfiber Cleaning
Microfiber, is a cleaning towel and is used directly with a spray cleaner to scrub and buff a surface clean.
Microfiber is not as absorbent as our detailing towels but perform great at cleaning hard surfaces. Top quality

Window Cleaning Soaps

Hardwater Stain Removal
H
ard water stain removal is one of the toughest challenges
facing window cleaners. Stains can rarely be identified by sight,
thus bidding a restoration job often requires testing an area to
know the work involved. Hard water stains are not uniform and can
be made up of one or more minerals.
The most common hard water stains are
caused my Calcium (Ca2+) and Magnesium
(Mg2+) ions., the 5th and 8th most
abundant metals by mass in the earth’s
crust. Common causes of these types of
stains are as follows:
• Calcium sulphate (gypsum, plaster)
• Calcium carbonate (rock, marble, cement, pool water, ceramics)
• Calcium chloride (salt)
• Magnesium carbonate (antacid, chalk)
• Magnesium sulphate (Epsom salt)
• Magnesium hydroxide (clay, cement with seawater)
• Calcium stearate (soap scum)
Iron, Copper and other elements are also found in some areas of the
country.
Not seen as often, but Silicate deposits are out there. Silicate from
rock, (Quartz, Sand) is precipitated on the glass when the silicates
are combined with salts (like sea water)
Sodium Silicate is often found in cements, lumber and textiles and
can be leached off onto the glass surface. Sodium silicate is a white
powder that is readily soluble in water, producing an alkaline solution

build-up and the length of time.
Dissolving or Abrading Stains
Hard water stains need to be either A) dissolved or B) abraded from
the glass:
1. The elements that make up the stain will dictate what can be used
to dissolve it
2. It is not possible to visually inspect and know what the stain is
3. The stains are softer than the glass and can be abraded from the
harder underlying surface
4. Each region, (often different parts of the same city) can leave
different hard water stains on the surface
5. Develop a kit of methods and products that work for you
Stains are dissolved with acids and abraded with white pads, steel or
bronze wool and abrasive grits such as cerioum oxide.

Powered polishers with round pads will speed up the hard water stain
removal process and make a job more profitable.
Stubborn deposits will require multiple applications or abrading or
dissolving as they come off in layers.
Be careful using products with abrasives or agressive (green) scrub
pads especially with polishers as they can scratch the glass. Always
test a small discreet area before proceeding to restore.
Performing the Restoration
Regardless of your chosen method, work in small manageable areas
no larger that 4ft x 4ft at a time, re-clean the class and inspect your
work in between. Be careful not to set
you tools or pads down on surrounding
surfaces (of any kind) as they may
pick up some foreign debris that could
scratch the glass.
1) Creams, Pastes - Hand Applied
The two pastes shown here offer mild
(3-Star) and medium (NanoUltra)
removal potential. These pastes will
remove the deposits without damaging
the glass. They are applied by hand
with polishing pads (from white pads
to steel wool) The 3-Star and NanoUlra
are the easiest and safest to use and
should be considered first. The two
acids in the NanoUlra stain reover are
added to soften and dissolve the hard
water stain allowing the product to
work faster.
The hand applied restoration method is also the most labor intensive
and therefore suited for small areas.
Note: When dealing with heavy build-up consider using a scraper
to aid in the removal of the stain. Scrape while the material is
paste/cream is still on the glass.

2) Creams, Paste - Power Polisher Applied
Powered polishers are for larger, more challenging jobs and can greatly reduce the time
spent to perform the restoration (see warning note below). Choose a rotary polisher that can
operate at 600 RPM, keep the speed low and be careful not to heat the glass.

Note: The products on this page have been used with success with powered polishers by
professional operaters, if you use other products read the product labels as some will
state they are not to be used with a powered polisher.
All glass is not safe to restore...
Test a small area and with all products and be careful not to cause swirled micro scratches
in the glass. Clean the test area with a squeegee; make sure you’re looking at dry, clean
glass.
3) Acids
For those window cleaners and their customers comfortable with working with acids; then acids are often the fastest way to remove hard
water stains. Consider the work site and the customer, and where they allow acids to be used. OneRestore is an acid and will remove the
toughest deposits with the least effort.
Apply OneRestore from a chemical resistant spray bottle or squeeze bottle and agitate with polishing pads (from white pads to steel wool).
Let the product dwell on the surface for 3 to 5 minutes, but do not let it dry.
after the dwell time spray the surface again to insure it is wet and scrub with the polishing pad again and continue scrub off the stains.
Rinse with water when finished and re-clean the glass to review progress. Typically acids should not be allowed to dry on the glass. Protective
gloves and eyewear must be worn (page 57).

Screen Cleaning
There are three ways to clean screens:
1) Screen Magic: Spray the screen and wipe the frame of the screen off.
2) Hand Brush: the screen with a screen brush
3) Water-Fed Pole: Place the screens on a tarp on the ground and use the water fed pole to clean and rinse the screens.
A sprayer bottle with a detergent mix sprayed on the screens first will help clean very dirty screens faster.
Track Cleaning
In many areas, Track Cleaning is an important part of clean screens. Use a small stiff brush to get into the tracks and sweep away the accumulated debris.
In some areas with large dust accumulation, a small backpack vacuum will make track cleaning faster and easier.

There are two models
The brush with nozzles is used when you can not rinse from a spray nozzle.
and features four fan jets and 50’ of special water hose. This brush likes to
see 2 gallon per minute of water flow and requires at least 1.2 gpm flow.
We reccomend the use the 3-Star Dual 40” RO bypassing the DI cartridge in
use with a boot pump or the Quattro RO/DI system and bypass the DI cartridge
if the RO output is 35 TDS or Less.

With the major focus on renewable energy, solar panels are
being installed on the roofs of buildings all over America. Solar
panels are covered with normal glass that should be cleaned.
Solar panel manufacturers recommend regular cleaning for
long-term performance and increased energy generation.

Brush without rinse nozzles. Oner person rinces ahead and behnd an operator
with this brush who is agitating the dirt off.

Smaller panels can be cleaned with the typical washer/mop
and squeegee technique. There are several soap solutions
available, see right. Many window cleaners are now using
their water-fed poles to clean solar panels; especially large
areas where the worker cannot walk between the panels. The
pure water is a great cleaning agent and will suffice if the
panels are cleaned regularly.
With Solar Panel cleaning bidding out for about half the cost
of window glass it is important to gain efficiency in cleaning

Eagle EyeTM is an optical bird scarer that harmlessly deters
birds from unwanted areas by making use of light beams
reflected from direct sunlight or artificial light. The reflective
pyramid rotates via an electric motor, sending the beams
around in a menacing pattern. The light spectrum reflected
back by the Eagle Eye disorients birds in flight by limiting their
vision significantly. This causes the
bird to deviate in flight and fly to
another destination.
