Our 50th Anniversary was celebrated on the 19th February, exactly 50 years to the
day, at the Grand Stand dinning hall. I thank all those who braved the weather conditions and attended to
make a fantastic night. The evening commenced with Ian Hayne, our founding president, reading the minutes from the first meeting. A short tale of their time in the chair was given by all our past presidents who
were there on the night. It was interesting to see how the Club has evolved over the years and can see
the strength of the Club through the efforts and dedication of these people. I was pleased to see long time
member Lloyd Hagaman make the time to come all the way from Stanthorpe. We had around 120 members attend on the night with lots of apologies due to the weather. It was sad more could not attend, but
those that did, enjoyed the evening and reminiscing.
Sign On Day another success story, again not the best of weather but big turn out and plenty of interest
from the public and other clubs. I think we counted around 120 cars from our club which kept Vic and
Sylva busy collecting this years dues. Thank you for those who paid on the day as this saves us the task
of chasing members down track who haven’t paid. This year we will be fairly strict with late fees, in accordance with our memorandum, and cease newsletters etc after the 3 month period. This means pay before
end of May.
The Club has already had a few rallies to get our members out and about. Unfortunately the weather
dampened a couple of the runs. The run organized by Gordon MacKinnon
was a wash out but did not dampen the sprit of those who turned up. We all
enjoyed a chat and cup of coffee at the Pineapple before gong home. We
found more water leaks in our old cars than we thought we had, Merv Allom
turned up in the Vauxhall which didn’t even have windows and was properly
soaked. Never mind, there is not much we can do about the weather. Our
new rally director Phil led the way on the Reg Wilkie Rally, towards Kenilworth on Sunday 10th, picking up members from the Gympie club on the
way. We stopped at Lee & Dennis Storey’s home for a cuppa, to be entertained by the ‘Accordion Players Get Together & Music’. Some of our members got right into the atmosphere of the day, playing along with the group.
Our 2013 50th Anniversary Rally is just around the corner. Don’t miss out on this event just because it is in
our back yard. You may feel that having lived on the Coast for some time you don’t need to be revisiting
some of these attractions and drives, but I can tell you that you would not have been there as part of a
250 car rally. The event is one that we will all be proud to be part of, so don’t wait too long and get your
entry in now. If you would like to help or marshal during the rally contact Karen Ryan who is collating a
roster for the whole of the event. We would hope that your help can be restricted to one day and this will
be compensated against your entry cost. If you are not entering the rally and still wish to help, that will be
great, but remember that you can not participate with the event programs due to costs which have been
calculated into the entry price.
CONT./- Pg 4
The Sunshine Coast Antique Car Club was formed in
1963 to foster preservation of our motoring heritage by
providing an avenue for sharing of information by the
owners of veteran and vintage cars (prior to 1/1/1919
and 1/1/1931 respectively) and the encouragement of
their restoration and preservation. They also intended to
educate and interest the general public by displays,
rallies, etc.
Today we welcome all people interested in preservation
and restoration of our motoring and machinery history.
Generally, our members come from those owning such
over 30 years old but owning one is not a mandatory
requirement. Our veteran and vintage vehicles remain
our “respected citizens” due to their historic significance.
Rallies are designed to allow for their limitations.
Our Rally Director tries
to incorporate suitable
variations in rallies
which will cater for all
our vehicles. S.C.A.C.C.

Well its been a busy February for us, some of our Runs have been
washed out but its good to see Members still going to the rallies
rain, hail or shine, mostly rain. I guess the midweek run on the Wednesday
6th and the Reg Wilkie Drive is done by the time this gets written.
It was good to see so many members at the Sign On Day. If only we didn't have to wait so long to see
some of those cars, we had about 90 cars turn up, so see if we can see some on our test drives.
There is a mid week drive on the 13th and another test run on the Sunday 24th of March.
In April we are doing some more final tuning on the rallies. Our first will be on the 14th, then again on the
28th. The Pie and Soup night originally planned for April has had to be moved to May.
We will talk about that on the 26th of March at the general meeting. I will be asking for names for Anzac
Phil
Day as well.
Presidents report cont:
The club wishes to express its deepest sympathy to the Tognolini family for the passing of Phil Tognolini
late last month. Phil and his pride and joy, the EH, will always be remembered within the club.
The March committee members announce the following proposed new members to be voted in at our next
general meeting: John Brady (deferred from Jan/Feb meeting), Sean Sharkey, Douglas Moore, Richard
Cooper. The committee also wish to note the reinstatement of past members William Lindermann and Eric
Butters.
Happy and safe motoring
Lyall.
Note to all Members
Please be advised that Bevin is no longer a general Committee member and therefore should not be contacted re
details of rallies or catering. (However he is still part of the 2013 organizing committee)
Information about events is available in our Auto Antics, the club website www.scacc.org.au or by contacting the
new Rally and Assistant Rally Directors (details inside front cover), or the Secretary at [email protected]
Regards Bevin
VALE
It is with deepest regret that we report the passing of club member Phil Tognolini.
Phil was a member for 10 years and we enjoyed his company at many events. Our
deepest sympathies to wife Sue and all the family.

Another most enjoyable and social Sign On Day, the amount and
quality of the goodies never ceases to amaze.
A recent experience with our local mechanic who on my last visit was in the process of
binning some old stock most of which I brought to sign on and all found good homes, so it may
be worthwhile spreading the word to other mechanics " your old stock" could be Gold to us.
We have had a request from Beerwah RSL for vehicles for Anzac day, 6 cars should
suffice for transporting Diggers, however, all cars are welcome as it is very much appreciated in
the parade and always well received by the public, any members wishing to attend can contact
me at our listed points per magazine.
Regards to all Duncan and Meg.
Thanks Sylva for the great photos
CATERING
Lynne Callaghan
As many members know I stood down as catering officer at the AGM in
November and this position has not been filled.
If any of the ladies or men would like to form a group to take over the
catering, I would be happy to assist in any way. Records of amounts purchased and numbers that have
attended have been recorded for many years so it is a very good guide as to what is needed.
A group is advantageous as they have others to check if every thing has been purchased or needs
re-stocking, a luxury I haven’t had. I really appreciate all the help I have been given on the day, thankyou
all, but it is the planning that is too much for one person to manage.
After 3 years in the position I feel it’s time for someone else with new ideas to cater and allow me to
actually bring my own club vehicle to a rally and enjoy the day.

Meeting No. 540 19th February, 2013
50 years to the day the club started on 19th February, 1963.
Meeting started at 6.25pm
Meeting held in the dining room under the grandstand of the Nambour Showground.
Present as per attendance book: 90, Apologies: 21, Visitors: 15.
President Lyall welcomed everyone to this 50th Anniversary Meeting and Celebration.
Ian Hayne was acknowledged as one of the First Members and was thanked for coming along.
Lyall read a short note about how the people in 1963 started up the club. (you can see this on the
web)
Ian Hayne was asked by Lyall to read out the Minutes of the First meeting of the club known then
as the “Antique Car Club of Nambour” Graeme Pettigrew seconded these minutes.
Graeme Pettigrew then gave a talk about the early days of motoring with his family in the car and
some travelling on the running boards. People from Gympie would come down for the club
outings so Graeme got them to start up their own club. Graeme is member No 1. He also
encouraged Kingaroy people to do the same and in the club he is member No. 1. Graeme’s 1st
vehicle was a model T Ford – which cost $1.00
His 2nd car was a 1934 Oldsmobile for $50. He reminisced about a meeting in Bert Skinners
Garage where the cat was sleeping on top of the air compressor (which was normally turned off
at meetings but on this occasion hadn't) The compressor started up collecting the cats tail and
flinging him across the room. The cat lost its tail. Graeme was thanked and applauded.
Derek moved and Rod Collins seconded that the minutes of the January meeting be accepted
and there were no matters arising.
Secretary's Report: Karen read out the Inwards and Outwards correspondence and moved that
they be accepted and was seconded by Neil Andersen.

Anyone seen one of these? No it’s not the same as Werner Kroll’s.
Articulated caravan which was once a Douglas DC3 Aeroplane. Built by my father
Ted Endres and his brothers, Jim, Bill & Ralph Endres in the early fifties. Caravan was
eventually sold to a young couple from Dalby who were going to live in it while they
built their house. Unfortunately, it caught fire at some stage, something to do with
the kero stove and burnt to the ground.

Bill Ryan’s current project is well
on it’s way to being finished. A

end up marrying someone like
their father but maybe not on the
same scale. :P

The Morgan Motor Company located in Britain doesn’t change in a changing
world. Not only is it still independent, but it also makes each car by hand.
A base model is about $44,000, with some cars costing up to $300,000.
People wait for over a year to get their exclusive hand-built cars with the shell made out of
metal and much of the vehicle made out of wood.
Working on the wood interior, workers use metal shears to individually shape a hood because each car has to be different.
Every year Morgan produces about 600 cars.
The company celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2011.
It has a long and interesting history, and is still run by the same family: the Morgan's. Founded by Henry Frederick Stanley Morgan known as “HFS”, it was then run by
his son Peter, and is now run by Charles, the son of Peter Morgan.
If you have a story about your vehicle, a “special” event or
something of interest, that you would like to share please
send it to [email protected] or call Carolyn 54710342

AUSTIN
One the world's most famous marques. Austin was the brainchild of Herbert
Austin who had resigned from Wolseley in 1905 to form his own company. The full numbers of
Austins made around the world number in the millions but the beginnings were humble and
conventional enough until 1922 saw the introduction of the Seven, truly a conventional car in
miniature. The "Baby" Austin was immediately a huge success and continued in production for
many years, helping to finance the production of the less famous but also successful "Ten",
"Twelve", "Sixteen" and "Twenty". After the Second World War such cars as the A30, A40,
A50, A55 and A90 continued the
reputation until the eventual joint venture
with Morris in 1952 at which time the
British Motor Corporation was formed.
In time this group expanded further to
become British Leyland Motor Corporation
and outside the UK the Austin badge
diminished in significance on the world
stage.
