Thoughts From Giles’
Cozy Kitty Corner
Hear, hear! When it comes to
sound, cats can hear four times
more frequencies than humans
and nearly twice as many
as dogs.

Love Lane: Marilyn
Rafferty
Come back in
time with us to a
city called
Muskegon,
Michigan. We are not far from
Muskegon High School, known
as the Big Reds. There is a hill
not far from the school. On that
hill sits a young lady watching a
young man with deep
admiration; her name is
Marilyn. His name is Roy
Rafferty. If you were to listen
closely and her heart spoke, you
would hear her heart whisper,
“He’s the one.”
Being a shy woman, Marilyn
would have never revealed what
her heart richly felt. One day, a
close friend finally introduced
this young man to Marilyn.
Shortly after that, the young
man got up the nerve to ask
Marilyn for a date. From that
day on, Marilyn no longer had
to watch him from a distance; it
was “Yes,” before he even asked.
This special man was known
as the neighborhood gentleman.
Within the first few dates he
asked, “Do you want to get
together?” Such a proposition
was slang for, “Will you marry
me?” Of course, by Marilyn’s last
name, you know the answer.
Together they had five
children. I asked Marilyn, “If
Roy was here today, what would
he say about you?” Her response
was “He would say, ‘She is a
good mother and a good cook.’”
The Pastor’s Voice
To Be or Not to
be – Provoked.
According to
the Webster’s
dictionary, the word ‘provoked’
has two meanings; on the one
side, its literary meaning is to
become angry, enraged,
exasperated or vexed. On the
other side, it means to stir up,
encourage or call someone
forward by connecting with their
feelings, desires, and motivating
them toward positive activity.
I ask that you pay attention to
two critical thoughts around this
interesting word, provoked.
• It requires an outside
stimulus. What we mean by
that is, something or
someone other than
ourselves must provoke us.
• Anything or anyone that
can provoke you has
influence and/or power
over you.
To say that someone made us
angry is to admit they provoked
a negative feeling in us. To say
that someone made us happy is
to say they provoked something
positive in us.
Here is a somewhat
penetrating thought for each of
us. Are we set up to be provoked
negatively or positively? When
we get up on the wrong side of
the bed or when we are tired, we
set ourselves up to be provoked
negatively. When we are rested
and are determined to enjoy life
and our day,

we are set up to be provoked
positively.
We often miss God if we are set
for the negative. The Bible says in
Hebrews 10:24, “Let us consider
one another to PROVOKE each
other unto love and to do good
works.”
It is my goal, and I pray it is
your goal, to be the positive
stimulus to make someone’s day a
pleasant day.
Take a Walk
With the sun setting and the
day cooling, a summer evening is
the perfect time for a stroll. Go
with family, friends or by yourself,
and enjoy the fresh air.
