New ACVO Board Members
ACVO are proud to annouce that we have been joined by two new board members. Find out more about them below.
Louise Baxter
“I spent most of my career in education, first as a teacher of art and design with special
emphasis in children with additional support needs. I moved into cultural services within
education finding significant funding for projects in schools that brought artists of all types
in to work with pupils and teachers. My interests outside of work included the forming of
both the Ferryhill Artists exhibitions and the Ferryhill players drama group both of which
continued for over 30 years.
I was involved with my late husband Nick in the setting up and pioneering years of
Cornerstone and was both a director and vice chair. I was also on the board of Partnership
Housing now Inspire.
Currently I am Chair of Castlegate Arts which runs the Art Centre and Theatre in King Street. I am also Vice Chair of Ab+ a
local Arts and culture networking organisation dedicated to the promotion of all artists, organisations and art forms in the
North East.
I attend the City Council’s Cultural Network and am a member of its strategy sub group.
I believe that a healthy society and a healthy economy requires a vibrant and adequately supported third sector this includes
the recognition of a cultural third sector. I hope I can bring to the Board a knowledge and understanding of this ‘cultural third
sector’ and the opportunities it can offer to people of all ages and all circumstances and its potential for transformation of
both individuals and organisations.”
Paul O’ Connor MBE
“I have chaired and managed third sector organisations for the last 20
years, supported charity work and organisations in various other capacities
from director to advisor.
My core work has been to build capacity within the community of Garthdee
and the wider electoral ward of Mannofield, Broomhill and Ruthrieston
delivering learning, sports, music, fitness, arts, social and support
services, however, in recent years I have been involved in supporting
other community projects across the city.
I have strong connections within both the business and third sector communities across Aberdeen and I hope to use
these connections, on top of my 20 years of experience in the third sector to support the outstanding work of ACVO and
encourage more colleagues of mine within the community work field to access the wide range of resources and support
ACVO provides.
I see being on the board of ACVO as a two way positive experience. It allows me to learn, widen my horizons that will benefit
my core work, but to also give something back to the organisation through my professional experiences gained over 2
decades.
It is an immense honour and privilege to be on the board of ACVO and I very much look forward to working with my fellow
directors/ trustees and ACVO staff to do my bit to support the outstanding team and work at ACVO that helps so many
organisations and such a positive and productive fashion across the city.”

Celebrate Aberdeen Excitment Takes off on SHMU-FM!
The ACVO and SHMU team on the ‘So Why Don’t You….’ programme on SHMU-FM Community Radio-99.8FM welcomed
superb special guests this week-Lord Provost of Aberdeen Councillor George Adam and Morven Mackenzie, Citrus:Mix.
Morven and Lord Provost Councillor George Adam provide a fantastic overview and the latest exciting news regarding
Celebrate Aberdeen which celebrates our great city and the vital contribution third sector, charities, social enterprises and
volunteers make. This year Celebrate Aberdeen will encompass a tremendous Celebrate Aberdeen Parade on Saturday
22nd August 2015 which will be led off by the Union Street Mile organised by Sport Aberdeen at 10.30am, followed by an
incredible, colourful parade involving over 130 third sector organisations/charities, volunteers and supporters which will
make its way down Union Street through to the Castlegate. In the afternoon of the 22nd August celebrations will continue
with the Lord Provost Councillor George Adam and Northsound presenters opening entertainment and activities in Union
Terrace Gardens, live music at venues throughout the city and StreetSport taster sessions at Union Terrace Gardens. On
Sunday 23rd August there will be the Celebrate Aberdeen Service at St Mark’s Church, Rosemount Viaduct at 11.00am and
excellent afternoon entertainment, live music, WrestleZone Scotland Display, a Zumba session (Union Terrace Gardens)
and much, much more! Performers throughout the weekend include award winning traditional folk singer Iona Fyfe, local
sensation Best Girl Athlete, acclaimed musician Colin Clyne, Scottish rockers Uniform, the Lorelei, entertainer Samyouel,
the Aberdeen Chorus of Sweet Adelines, Aberdeen Rock Choir and Acoustified in Union Terrace Gardens, Aberdeen Central
Library and the Bon Accord & St Nicholas Centre and bandstand area.
Overall Celebrate Aberdeen 2015 will highlight all that is good about our City. There is a brilliant buzz around this year’s
event, which is shaping up to be the best yet. There are many ways in which people can support and be part of Celebrate
Aberdeen 2015 ranging from volunteering as a Parade Helper, cheering the Celebrate Aberdeen Parade as it makes its way

“Coaching Culture is Key to Overcoming Tough Economic
Climate” Says Executive Trainer
Local executive trainer and coach, Elaine Manley, believes that the key to success in a difficult
market is to focus on coaching your team to achieve their potential.
Elaine said: “People are at the core of every company. From a business perspective, instilling
a coaching culture will allow you to maximise the value of your human resources and tap into
their unrealised skills, making your company more competitive.”
“This, in turn, will boost morale, encourage loyalty and improve staff retention rates. With the current uncertainty in the oil
market, this is more important than ever.”
This month, Elaine launches her flagship programme, the ILM Level 5 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring, for 2015.
She explained: “The course will run over 5 months, with a blend of practical and academic study, relating theory to every
day workplace issues. By the end of the course, delegates will fully understand the benefits of coaching in organisations
and will be qualified to plan and deliver their own coaching programmes.”
Elaine has 20 years of experience working with clients in a wide variety of industries, from oil operators to local authorities,
delivering training on a range of HR and personnel topics, including time management and interview skills. She holds
numerous Post Graduate and professional qualifications, including Fellowship of Chartered Institute of Personnel and
Development and Membership of the Association for Coaching.

NHS Health Scotland Advocates for Action to Reduce Health Inequalities
is recognised by both the Scottish Government and the Scottish Parliament that reducing health inequalities in Scotland will
require action across all sectors and across a wide range of public policy areas.
The role of NHS Health Scotland, as a national Health Board, is to work with and through the public, private and third sectors
to turn knowledge into action about what works, and doesn’t work, to reduce health inequalities.
Today we have launched a new series of briefings which will provide evidence-informed recommendations for tackling both
the inequalities in our society and their impact on people’s health. The first briefing Health Inequalities: What are they? How
can they be reduced? explains what health inequalities are, and the action required to reduce health inequalities at a national
and a local level. This will be followed next month by a briefing on good work, and subsequently on a regular basis with
topics including welfare, homelessness, the right to health, prevention and mental health.
Chief Executive of NHS Health Scotland, Gerry McLaughlin said:
“We know we share the vision of a Fairer Healthier Scotland with a wide range of stakeholders across Scotland - these new
Inequality Briefings provide guidance about what works to reduce health inequalities across a range of policy areas.”
Claire Stevens, Chair of Voluntary Health Scotland added:
“Our recent report, Living in the Gap, shows that health inequalities are having a profound impact on individuals, families
and communities across Scotland. The gap in health outcomes between the most and least advantaged groups in society is
widening. People who are more disadvantaged, have a lower level of income, with a lower level of education, have greater
health problems, have a poorer quality of life, are sicker for longer and die at a younger age than more advantaged groups.
The report concludes that meeting that challenge is everybody’s business – government, the NHS, the third sector and,
indeed, the private sector. NHS Health Scotland’s new series of briefings on health inequalities is an important contribution
to reducing not only the impact of inequalities but tackling their fundamental causes.”

Adult Counselling Service - Aberdeen City Council
NB This is future contract opportunity
Aberdeen City Council is commissioning a Support/Counselling Service which fulfils the aims of the Scottish Government’s
Suicide Prevention Strategy 2013/16. The service shall be innovative in its approach and market itself in a way which
targets individuals who are facing multifaceted and complex issues in their daily lives and will aim to reduce risk of harmful
behaviours and suicide ideation. These people will often be difficult to reach and as a result the Service needs to have a high
profile within Aberdeen City. By supporting people to identify and deal with their issues they will be equipped with the skills
and capacity to cope with the demands placed upon them. Service Users will be aged 16 upwards and may live in their own
tenancies, supported accommodation projects, temporary accommodation, or may be hospital inpatients.

Provision of an Advocacy Support Service - Aberdeen City Council
The Service Provider will provide an independent advocacy service to Service Users of Health and Social Care Services in
the City of Aberdeen although in some instances individuals may not be known to Social Work or Health Services. This will
be demand led but will prioritise individuals with Mental Disorder as defined by the 2003 Act who are likely to be or subject
to orders under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003 Act or orders under the Adult with Incapacity
(Scotland) Act 2000.

PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT ON THE ABERDEEN INTEGRATION STRATEGIC PLAN
MONDAY 17 to FRIDAY 28 OF AUGUST
We’d like to invite you, as a key stakeholder in the Aberdeen Health and Social Care Partnership, to participate in this
engagement exercise in the second half of August. You would be taking part as one of a team of people who will be speaking
to members of the public about their experiences of health and social care and what they would like to see integration
achieve in the future.
We are keen that colleagues from a wide range of partner agencies are given the opportunity to take part in this partnership
engagement with the public.
Please find below details of the purpose and format of the engagement.
Purpose of the engagement
The purpose is to offer a range of public-focussed engagement opportunities about the Strategic Plan prior to the formal
consultation period. A wide range of settings are being targeted including shopping centres in local communities, public
areas of local authority and health buildings, etc.
Format of the engagement
We will circulate in a variety of locations around the city (minimum of two people) engaging the public in conversation. Clipboards will be supplied to make recording views easier.
Participants will be supplied with a pack of materials for the engagement including recording sheets, a consultation guide
and information leaflets.

National Play Day Feedback
The day was busy from start to finish, with lots of families turning up to celebrate
National Play Day and the theme of ‘More Play’ with us! It was a great turn
out! We think we had around 500 children attending, 750 including parents/
carers. We had fabulous support from our Face Painters Fiona and Kerri, Mandy
at Mudpies, Kieth from OPAL, Bob from R&M Leisure with the bouncy castle,
the Guarana Street Drummers, Scoop dog and the Aberdeen City Wardens, and
of course the Gardeners, who have done a fabulous job of keep the gardens in
tip top condition. The children were busy participating in all of the activities on
offer throughout the whole event. There was brilliant Loose Parts Play going on,
developing their social skills, problem solving, creativity and imagination skills.
The venue was excellent, and right in the heart of the City Centre. We were really lucky with the weather too and the families
got to enjoy some lovely picnics.
We have had some lovely feedback already, Including:
Kerry, a parent/carers said: “Thank you very much for organising the international play day. My two year old daughter had
a ball and loved the drumming. We left just after lunchtime as it was getting too busy but its great that people attended the
fab event.”
A Grandma at the end of the event said: “Thanks again, you have done a brilliant job once again in organising this event. We
have been here from start to finish, its been a fantastic day. Kids are tired out now!”

Place Standard Tool
The Scottish Government has been working with partners NHS Health Scotland and
Architecture and Design Scotland to develop a Place Standard Assessment tool. The
aim of the Place Standard tool is to support the delivery of high quality places – which
can be instrumental in reducing health inequalities.
Earlier this year, we carried out a number of workshops and public engagement
activities to gather your views on the Place standard tool. That feedback has assisted
us in developing this new, working draft. You can find here the revised tool, some
supporting information on its use, and an interactive excel tool which will, in the future,
be developed more fully into an online version.

Easy Money
If your summer holiday is going to cost a fortune, you might be looking
for ways to replenish your bank account! Why not check to see if you are
eligible for the 0% savings rate on your savings income (interest).It’s quite
easy to do. First, look to see;
•If you are paying tax on your savings income.
•If your taxable income (ignoring savings income) is below £15,600 (£15,660 if born before 6th April1938).
Yes? Then read on…
The new 0% savings rate of tax on savings income has replaced the previous 10% rate of tax on savings income since April
2015. The amount of savings income that can benefit from the new rate was also increased from £2,880 to £5,000 - the
intention being that lower earners won’t have to pay tax on their savings income.
To see how the rate applies to you, add up your total taxable income (things like wages, pensions, taxable benefits and
savings income).
•If the total is less than your personal allowance (£10,600 - or £10,660 if you were born before 6/4/1938)
plus £5,000, you will be eligible to register for tax-free savings with your bank or building society. This is done
by completing form R85, which instructs them to pay you your interest without tax being taken off.
•If your non-savings taxable income is under your personal allowance plus £5,000, but your savings income
takes you above this figure, you will be eligible for 0% tax on that part of your savings income below the limit
and will pay 20% on the part above. In this case you will not be able to sign an R85 but will be able to claim
back the overpaid tax using form R40.
An example may better explain:
Under the new rules a 67 year old (2015/16) with a pension income of £15,000 and savings income of £400 won’t pay any
tax on their savings income. However, if the pension income is slightly higher at £15,300 they would pay nothing on the first
£300 of savings income and 20% on the last £100, and if slightly higher again at £15,600, they will pay 20% on all of their
savings income. Please note that an R85 can only be signed in the first example.
While checking the new rates, look back to make sure you haven’t missed out on the old 10% rate. If you have, you can ask
HMRC to repay any overpaid tax going back to the 2011/12 tax year.
And just when it makes sense….
It’s going to change again. From April 2016 the Personal Savings Allowance (PSA) is being introduced, which means that
most people will not pay tax on the first £1,000 (or £500 for higher rate taxpayers) of income they earn on their savings.
More importantly, banks and building societies will no longer take tax from savings income and it will be up to individuals
to inform HMRC if they are due to pay tax. This means that from April 2016 you will need to consider both the 0% savings
rate rules and the PSA rules to see if you should inform HMRC and pay tax on your savings income. For most of us, who
are basic rate taxpayers with less than £1,000 in savings income, it will be much simpler with nothing to worry about and
nothing to do. (Honest!)
Please note that people with incomes up to £42,700 will be eligible for the full £1,000 of allowance, whereas those with
incomes between £42,701 and £150,000 will have a £500 allowance and those with incomes above £150,000 get no tax
free savings at all.

Aberdeen City Pipeline - Progress Through Positive Partnerships
Future Contract Opportunity
On behalf of Aberdeen City Community Planning Partnership, Aberdeen City Council has been
provisionally allocated £879,240 of European Social Fund money by the Scottish Government to
commission employability services for unemployed people with multiple barriers in Aberdeen. There
is an opportunity for organisations to use some of that funding for employability delivery which fits
the criteria of Aberdeen’s Single Outcome Agreement and other city and national priorities.
Interested organisations should note that any European funding received via Aberdeen City Council would only cover 40%
of the eligible costs of delivery so organisations would need to explain clearly where they would source the other 60%, or
if they would not have any match funding to bring forward. Aberdeen City Council is only seeking expressions of interest at
this moment and will not commit any commissioning/funding at this time. EOIs will help to inform the development of the
employability provision and allow the Council to begin engagement with interested organisations.
Once approval to move to Operation Application stage is confirmed by the Scottish Government, Aberdeen City Council will
begin a procurement process which will be advertised on Public Contracts Scotland.

The Crerar Hotels (Thainstone House) Community Prize

Crerar Hotels Trust is a charitable trust funded by the Crerar Hotel Group.
Giving back to local communities to improve the quality of everyday lives is at the heart of Crerar Hotels - our motto
is “Hotels with Heart and Soul” - each year almost half of the hotel profits are entrusted to the Crerar Hotels Trust for
distribution to charities and community projects local to Crerar Hotels throughout Scotland and Yorkshire. This year, in
addition to these donations and as a pilot scheme, Crerar Hotels has decided to launch the Crerar Hotels Community Prize.
This fund will be awarded to a local community project which brings together young and old people in a meaningful way.
Criteria:
Consideration will be given to any proposal which will result in ongoing interaction between the generations in a community
within one hour’s drive of any Crerar Hotel. The criteria are intentionally loose to allow communities to develop creative
ideas which will work for them. Preference may be given to applications which aim to match funding provided and where
there will be a lasting impact in the community. Each Crerar Hotel will have a community volunteer team who will act as the

Applications should be returned to email address above as soon as possible and no later than 4th September 2015 for
consideration for this year’s Community Prize. Each Crerar Hotel Community team will select one proposal to go forward
to the judging panel from which the three finalists will be selected. Presentations from the final three will be welcomed by
the Crerar Hotels Trust on 12th November 2015 at GoGlasgow Urban Hotel and the winner announced following all three
presentations.

Idox Innovation Awards - Imminent Deadline
To celebrate 30 years as Europe’s leading providers of funding information, the Grants arm of Idox launched
the Idox Innovation Awards in spring 2015. The Awards aim to recognise, reward and raise the profile of
projects that have demonstrated a creative and forward-thinking approach to improving the life of one or
more UK communities.
Chaired by Big Lottery Fund chief executive Dawn Austwick OBE, one organisation in each award category will be selected to receive an
Idox Innovation Award of £3,000 in recognition of their project’s achievement, together with promotional and publicity opportunities.
‘Highly commended’ projects will also be selected in each category and awarded an Idox Innovation Awards certificate.
A wide range of formally constituted public sector, business support and voluntary and community sector organisations are eligible to
enter the Awards, of which there are five categories.
Projects may be entered for consideration under a minimum of one and maximum of two award categories.
Entrants are required to complete the entry form in full, providing relevant digital supporting documentation (eg photographs, news
articles, web pages, links to online videos etc.) of the project activity.
The deadline for entries is 1 September 2015 (5pm).

Inter Faith Youth Trust Small Grants Programme Open to Applications in UK
Grants are available for organisations involved in inter faith projects for young people that take place in the UK during Inter Faith Week.
Grants of between £200 and £500 are awarded for proposals for inter faith activities by children and young people from Christian,
Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Sikh and other faiths and those of no formal faith in understanding and co-operation. The age range for young
people is 11-25 years. Projects should take place during Inter Faith Week (15-21 November 2015).
Funding is available for the following:
• Learning by children and young people (11-25 years old) from different faiths about different faiths, through social
action.
• Co-operation and understanding between faiths which preferably involve young people in planning, running, and
evaluating; and which promote equal opportunities.
• Increasing understanding between people of faith and of no faith.
UK based organisations are eligible to apply. Priority will be given to non-statutory organisations.
The deadline for applications is 15 September 2015.

GC Gibson Charitable Trust Open for 2015
The GC Gibson Charity offers grants to a wide range of charities. Priority for support is given to charities that the trustees have previously
worked with; however, the trust adds few new charities each year. For these new applications, the charity focuses on a particular theme
for projects that changes from year to year.
In 2015, the Trust will provide eight grants of £4,000 to support capital equipment purchases or building refurbishment which provide
benefit to the aged or the disadvantaged or disabled.
UK registered charities are eligible to apply. Priority is given to smaller charities.
The Trust is open to applications until a date in September when enough applications have been received.

Community Food and Health (Scotland) Launches Three Grant Schemes
Community groups, voluntary organisations and social enterprises working with or within Scotland’s low-income communities
to improve access to, and take-up of, a healthy, varied and balanced diet can apply to one or more of the following three
funding schemes.
• The Capacity Building Fund offers grants of up to £500 for groups and agencies running food and health activities
in low-income areas wanting to strengthen their organisations. Applicants will need to show that funding will build
the knowledge, skills and expertise of volunteers, staff, management committee or Board members, and demonstrate
how this will benefit their food and health activities. Applications can be made at any time until this year’s funding
has been allocated.
• The one-year Development Fund offers grants of between £500 and £2,000 to groups and agencies that can
develop, recruit for, and complete food and health activities by the end of September 2016. The deadline for
applications is 7 August 2015 (5pm).
• The two-year Development Fund offers grants of between £500 and £5,000 for groups and agencies that are
planning food activities that need a little longer to get up and running, or to allow more time to reach people most in
need. Those applying for the two-year fund must be able to show how they can continue some or all of their CFHS
funded activities after the funding has been spent.

Community Paths Grant Fund Opens for Scottish Groups
The Paths for All – Community Paths Grant Fund 2015 is accepting applications from groups across
Scotland that seek funding to improve and promote their local paths.
Constituted groups, community councils, development trusts, community woodlands and health
walking projects in Scotland can apply for grants of up to £1,500 as long as they can complete
their project by 31 December 2015.
The funding aims to help communities improve and promote their local paths. The grant can help projects to:
Improve links to amenities within a community.
Carry out path maintenance.
Increase awareness of paths within a community.
Improve a path so it can be used by all types of users.
Improve path signage.
Funding is available for insurance, tools, materials, plant hire, leaflets, signage and professional labour.
The Fund will close to applications when all the funds have been allocated.

See Me Scotland has now opened its 2015 and 2016 Community Innovation Fund (CIF) to end mental health stigma and
discrimination in Scotland. The purpose of the CIF is to support the strategic aim of the See Me programme – to end
mental health stigma and discrimination , enabling people who experience mental health problems to lead fulfilled lives. See
Me allocates funds to community groups and organisations across three strands to deliver mental health anti-stigma and
discrimination initiatives.

The Spark - M.Sc. in Relationship Counselling (Conversion)
Formed in 1965, The Spark is a well-established and highly respected charity in Scotland delivering
a range of specialist relationship support and training. In January 2016, we are introducing a
1-year MSc in Relationship Counselling (conversion), validated by Stirling University and aimed
at qualified counsellors with a post-graduate diploma.
The course will integrate humanistic, experiential, systemic and adult attachment theories using The Skilled Helper Model
(Gerard Egan), and covers elements of Emotionally Focused Therapy and Transactional Analysis. The second module will
examine issues impacting on relationships such as domestic abuse, sex, mental health, and addiction.
Offering a mix of theory, personal development and skills practice, students will be encouraged to explore attitudes, deepen
understanding and develop skills appropriate to couple counselling.
Applicants will need to commit suitable time during the year for study, their counselling placement in Aberdeen(50 hours)
and supervision (c. 9 hours).
The central aim of the M.Sc. Conversion is to enable trainees to make an effective transition from counselling individual
clients to counselling couples, developing highly skilled counsellors and reflective practitioners who work ethically and
effectively.

A Free Training Event for Parents
Families can be complicated, loving, difficult, complex and conflicting even on a good day. Find out a bit more about
resolving conflicts and improving relationships.
The SCCR delivers this half day training to provide some understanding around conflict as a parent: exploring what conflict
is, reviewing relationships, identifying potential triggers and ‘silly wee things’, reflecting on growing up, and looking at how
we can respond to situations to find a resolution. The course is short, simple, informative and interactive allowing parents
to informally share experiences and discuss related issues with others.

There is a shortage of registered childminders across Aberdeen.
People from all walks of life decide to become childminders as it gives them the chance to run their own business to suit
their family commitments.
Perhaps you are a parent looking for a career to fit around your own children or maybe you just love the idea of a career
that focuses on giving children the best start in life?
You don’t need to have a fancy house – just common sense and somewhere safe to care for children. So how do you find
out whether childminding is right for you?
• There is an information session on Tuesday 25th August at 7pm held prior to the Induction training course
which may help. There is no charge to attend the information session but booking is required.
• The Induction training course is free but has a £25 booking fee (usual cost £150) and the next one commences
on Saturday 19th September. This three session course aims to cover everything you need to know to set up
your own childminding service and will explore:
- Your understanding of what childminding is
- The law relating to childminding
- How to progress your registration
- How to best meet the needs of children in your care
- The business side of childminding – everything from contracts to cashbooks.
You will also receive support materials worth £35 and a discount of £35 off your first year’s SCMA membership.
• There is a start-up grant available to help towards the costs of establishing your childminding service
depending on which area of Aberdeen you live and your individual circumstances.
• Scottish Childminding Association (SCMA) will support you and provide the necessary information,

Share with you what the School is doing in adult nursing education.
Look at how you can become more involved in our work in adult nursing education if

If you are a service user or unpaid carer you will be given a £20 M&S or ASDA voucher for
participating in the afternoon. Your travel expenses will also be re-imbursed, (anything over
£45 will need to be agreed in advance). Employees of organisations will not have access to

This exciting new course has been designed using a blended approach,
combining e-learning with face-to-face training.
Who is this training for?
Prospective participants include anyone who is able to raise the issue of
smoking with individuals. This includes a range of staff include health
professionals and support staff from secondary, primary care services and
workers from other sectors and wider partner agencies.
What will it cover?
Participants will gain awareness of the purpose, benefits and process of
raising the issue of smoking and delivering brief advice. It also covers
knowledge on tobacco, smoking and health, communication skills and how to
refer people to local stop-smoking services for support.
How long will it take?
This is a short, easily accessible course. The e-learning component takes
around 1 hour to complete at your own computer. You will then attend a
3-hour participatory session (details below).

Upon completion of the training, participants will be able to apply cognitive and behavioural principles to managing sleep
problems in children with additional support needs. They will also be able to set up and run a sleep counselling service in

As an administrator you will be the first point of contact for referrals to the service and should therefore possess excellent
communication, interpersonal and organisational skills. Whilst it is important that you have the ability to work on your own
initiative, you should also recognise the importance of working as part of a team and to follow agreed actions.
The successful applicant will have a flexible approach and be responsible for ensuring that all office systems are managed
consistently and efficiently. They will possess excellent IT skills and will able to demonstrate a good working knowledge of
Microsoft Office, in particular Word, Excel and Outlook.
This is a part time position working 20 hours per week.

North East Sensory Services (NESS) - Transport Assistants/Drivers
North East Sensory Services (NESS) requires volunteer Drivers/Transport
Assistants to help older people, who have hearing or sight loss, access social groups and activities in Aberdeen City Centre.
Groups meet all week but mostly on Tuesdays and volunteers would be required to either drive the organisation’s car or
use their own vehicle, with all expenses covered. At NESS we are not just looking for people to drive cars – we want kind,
happy, friendly people, willing to help a blind or deaf person in and out of a car.
Volunteers will be asked to give a few hours per week (or more if they can manage) to collect service users from their homes
around Aberdeen and take them to our headquarters in the city centre then return them home a few hours later.

Silver City Surfers assist people 55 years and over to learn basic computer skills 1-to-1 in a social setting. We have a brilliant

ACVO Business Skilled Volunteer Programme

Volunteers make a huge difference. In Aberdeen it is estimated around 62,000 people volunteer,
contributing approximately 6.2 million hours every year. The economic impact of volunteering to the
city is estimated to be £107 million annually. With the local economy suffering through the number of
redundancies in the oil and gas sector, there has never been a better time to get involved in volunteering
to keep your skills up to date.
ACVO exists to help not-for-profit organisations by finding business
skilled volunteers to fill gaps in a charity’s personnel base. The hours
of volunteering must be flexible to fit in with a volunteer’s availability.

suitably skilled workers. Many are in need of volunteers with skills

Management, Strategic Management and Training. We assist business
skilled volunteers find challenging and rewarding opportunities, often
in roles where they can provide leadership, advice and professional
