Fall 2011 - Yoshukan Karate-Do
ZANSHIN THE OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER OF THE YOSHUKAN KARATE ASSOCIATION KANCHO CORNER The Yoshukan Karate Association has a historical event scheduled for this summer as 33 of our association members travel to Japan. For many students, the study of martial arts has been synonymous with learning more about Asian culture. Japan, in particular, has been at the forefront of linking martial arts (Budo) with the pursuit of personal development. Having the opportunity to go to Japan, train at a Grand-master's dojo, and tour a number of cities is for many a ‘once-in-alifetime’ experience. Coupled with our students passion (24 of the travelers are Brown or Black Belt rank in Yoshukan Karate-do) are some family members who will participate in the tour. It's terrific to have them along and see how supportive they and our other families have been of our association's philosophy. We also have a number of students testing while in Japan. This is truly unique and will be a precious life-long memory for these fortunate students. Grand-master Masaru Inomoto will be conducting the examinations at the end of our stay in his dojo. A world-class teacher, Inomoto-Sensei holds over 30 Dans (Degrees) in a variety of martial disciplines including a 9th Dan in Karatedo. For students that pass the exam, his diploma is recognized world wide and will be a family treasure that gets handed down through the following generations. We have also coordinated an outstanding itinerary for our travelers that Winter 2011 Back to our roots includes trips to: Kumamoto; Fukuoka; Hiroshima; Kyoto and Tokyo. We will be: Visiting a Zen Temple and getting private instruction in Zen meditation; Watching a Sumo training session; Get a private tour from an Abbot’s wife of a temple where her husband is the 35th generation Abbot; Visiting the Hiroshima peace park and bomb museum; Touring Kumamoto Castle; Visiting Miyamoto Musashi's cave where he wrote the ‘Go Rin No Sho – Book of 5 Rings’; Walking up Continued on Page 2 In this issue 2 St. Laurent Dojo 3 Gadbois & Lachine Dojos 5 Mississauga Dojo 6 NDG Dojo 7 Black Belt Clinic 8 Seiken No Tori Continued from Page 1 3,333 steps!; Singing Karoake in a Tokyo Nightclub; Having a community Hot Bath; Relaxing at Shuizenji Park; Visiting the Golden Pavillion in Kyoto; Shopping in the Ginza and the highlight – Staying at a Ryokan (traditional Japan Hotel) on Miyajima Island.
