Our mission is to provide the highest quality care to our patients; we will
achieve this through a continued focus on performance improvement in all
areas of the hospital. I look forward to working closely with our employees,
medical staff and volunteers, as it is through collaboration on all fronts that
we will achieve great things.
Best clinical practice is demonstrated with best clinical results. We will
measure continually the work that we do and I will update you regularly on
those results. It is important that you feel confident that the care you receive
at the Jordan is equal to or better than anywhere else.

Philanthropy
The Lasting Bond Between A
Hospital And Its Community
The power of your gift is astounding! From the $20,000 donation
over 100 years ago by our namesake benefactor, Eben Jordan, Jr., to the millions
of dollars our donors have given since, philanthropy continues to shape our
community hospital. I am privileged to extend our heartfelt gratitude for your
support and convey how deeply we value your goodwill. In this annual report of
philanthropy we proudly recognize every gift received during 2007.
Someone asked me recently, “What sets Jordan Hospital apart?” I answered,
without hesitation, “It’s the people involved: those who care for our patients with
skill and compassion, those who give of themselves to lead with commitment and
vision, and those whose generous and faithful charitable gifts sustain us.”
A walk through the halls of the Jordan tells our story. You are greeted by staff
and volunteers alike with a friendly smile and an offer to help you find your way.
Our partnership with our community and the importance of its charitable giving is
evident in the many donor names you see inscribed on wall murals and plaques,
the heartwarming tributes in our brick gardens, and dedicated programs and
services. Our Cancer Center and Gift Shop, both named for our Jordan Hospital
Club, reflect the selfless work and contributions of Club members, still so
generous over more than a century.
Our Eben Jordan Legacy Society mural, newly installed in our PIDC Atrium,
proudly recognizes bequests, perpetual trusts and endowed gifts, made during our
first, and now second century of caring. These types of gifts have traditionally been
thought of as gifts individuals make near the end of their lifetimes. While many do
involve bequests and estate giving, a legacy gift can be established at any age and
managed, with your guidance and our stewardship, over time. We then have,
and very much appreciate, the opportunity to know and personally thank you for
your contribution.
Please know your investment in the health and well being of our community
means everything to us and we do not take a single gift for granted. We cherish
our relationship with you and sincerely thank you for helping to make the
Jordan extraordinary!
President, Jordan Health Foundation
As we compiled the listings in this report,
we took great care to ensure that each
donation is recognized accurately and
appropriately. We apologize if we have
incorrectly listed or omitted your name
and will greatly appreciate your notifying
us at 508-830-2420 or by email to
[email protected] so we
may correct our records. Thank you.

“Great things are happening at the Jordan all
the time, and behind each endeavor are two
driving forces: leaders with an inspiring vision, and the will to achieve a common goal.
Jordan Hospital has the leadership,
and its community has the will. Together,
we make life better.
I t was in community philanthropy that
Jordan Hospital had its beginnings. This
foundation in philanthropy has continued
for over 100 years, giving us the privilege
and ability of staying at the forefront of
medical technology, expert care, and
exceptional service. We are excited about
the future of our healthcare services, and are
grateful for your investment in that future.
We are fortunate to have your extraordinary
support, whether it is through individual
or corporate donations, taking part in our
events or supporting family and friends who
do, choosing to mark significant life occasions with commemorative gifts,
volunteering with us, or helping to secure
the future of our Hospital with a legacy gift.

The Annual Fund is the cornerstone that supports the
daily work of Jordan Hospital. Gifts to our Annual Fund
touch hundreds of lives every day and are used to help
us bring you the newest medical technology, continuously
improve patient care, and upgrade our facilities and
equipment as needed. We gratefully acknowledge the
following donors, as well as those who have asked to
remain anonymous, for their caring and commitment
to current and future generations of patients at Jordan
Hospital. We appreciate deeply their strong investment
in the Jordan’s mission and their generosity in ensuring
Jordan Hospital remains among the best community
medical centers in the country.

C
for the Health and
Well Being of Our
The Jordan’s Community
Business Partners
The Jordan is grateful for the faithful and very significant
support given by our corporate community, and we are
pleased to honor and recognize our Community Business
Partners for their outstanding commitment to nurturing a
healthy community. These partnerships also demonstrate
the important role and resource Jordan Hospital and its
Cranberry Hospice represent to a company’s employees
and their families. Our Community Business Partners
support the Jordan with gifts ranging from $100 to over
$5,000. For information about the Partners Program,
please call us at 508-830-2420.
“We’re very proud of our
partnership with the Jordan
and the legacy we’ve created for
our community at large. Back
in 1962, when the outlook for
Plymouth’s economic future
seemed bleak, the Plymouth
Industrial Development
Corporation (PIDC) was established by a group of
our community’s businessmen. Boosted by broad
community support, the PIDC developed the Plymouth
Industrial Park, which is now the 9th largest park in
New England. In addition to the charitable support
the PIDC has provided for many of our local partners
such as Jordan Hospital, our Boys & Girls Club,
and the Town library, over the years the PIDC has
created over 6,000 jobs and introduced 60 new
companies to Plymouth.”

The Scare of a Life Time :
During the first two weeks of
December, at age 58, I experienced
five incidents of chest pain, which I
would describe as moderate heart burn
– nothing severe, no “heart in a vice”
pain. The first came while walking
briskly on a cold night in downtown
Boston to a Celtics game; the second
came at the airport, once while
shoveling snow, and twice on the last
day around noon while lifting stuck
snowmobiles. Each time I sat, rested,
and the pain was gone within five
minutes.
On the last day, a Saturday, those
two incidents of moderate pain were
followed by a little nausea, about three
hours’ worth. So...I went online to a
bunch of websites, looking for some
reason not to go to the hospital.
Each time it was suggested that I go
immediately to the hospital, I would
search for another site which might tell
me I just had some heartburn. I had
taken Zantac 150 around 1 p.m. that
afternoon, and it had no impact. So
around 5 p.m., I went home and told
my wife, Nancy, that the moment I’d
been awaiting for thirty-five years might
possibly have arrived, and off we went.
As I’m sure you know, with chest pains
you are attended to immediately when
you arrive at the Jordan’s emergency
room. Dr. Don Hansen was great,
very reassuring and very professional.
Remember that at this point I was
scared to death and he made me
feel much safer. The Jordan’s entire
emergency staff was outstanding. After
four hours of tests, they found nothing,
but kept me overnight and scheduled
a stress test in the morning. I was told
that if I passed that, I could go home,
thus justifying in my mind that it was
probably just some gas the whole
time, and I was willing to overlook the
fact that this heartburn was probably
brought on by physical exertion.
The stress test went very well during
nine of ten minutes. I stepped off the
treadmill on my own, as Eric Johnson,
my cardiologist, shut it down. I’d
done OK, but not quite good enough
for him. He then scheduled “a photo
shoot” for Monday morning: puncture
the femoral artery, insert the necessary
equipment all the way up into your
heart, shoot out some dye, and take
some pictures. I’m stunned, thinking I
might have been going home. I thought
I hadn’t exactly aced that stress test,
but I’d done OK. Monday morning
I was rolled down to the Jordan’s new
cardiovascular lab and told I’ll be
awake throughout the catheterization
procedure. I remember thinking I didn’t
want to be part of all this. Wrong again
– this is clearly out of my hands. All
was going well until the Jordan’s
cardiac catheterization team found 90%
blockage of a major artery, and decided
I’m off to Boston ASAP.
I don’t know if any of you have been on
Rt. 3 North when an ambulance goes
speeding by with its lights flashing and
siren going full blast, but when I’ve
witnessed it, I’ve always said, ‘Man,
that guy’s in trouble!’ I’ll tell you what,
when it’s you in that vehicle, it’s
downright terrifying.
So Tuesday afternoon Nancy drives me
home to join the family, who have been
going through hell worrying about me.
I now have two stents in my heart and
enough pills on my bedside bureau to
choke a horse. After a month of taking
it easy at home, I returned to Jordan so
Dr. Johnson could check my progress
and administer more tests.
“Each person enters our Cardiac Rehabilitation program with one initial question that is framed in many unique ways: What
in the world just happened to me and how can I prevent it from ever happening again? As their cardiac rehabilitation nurse,
I have their attention and I make great use of their readiness to learn. I feel so very honored to be part of the Jordan’s Cardiac
Rehabilitation Team, taking our patients through the next pivotal 16 weeks with all risk factors exposed and ready to modify.”
~ Cheryl Gomes, MPH, RN.C, Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurse

A Patient’s Story
If you haven’t been to the Jordan’s new
Cardiovascular Center, you haven’t had
the opportunity to see the plethora of
new, very expensive equipment as well
as the new highly trained, experienced
staff. I just wish I’d seen it all while
walking around at their open house
reception rather than while being
wheeled around on a gurney following
a cardiovascular “event”, which
apparently I had.
I was completely unaware that the
Jordan has a mini gym of its own on
the third floor: site of the Cardiac
Rehabilitation Program. What a great
idea! Dr. Johnson, medical director
of this program, handled my initial
interview, walked me through the
facility, and introduced me to the staff.
I’d describe it as a collaborative
effort by a group of very well educated
professionals who want to see you live
a long and happy life. Patients in cardio
rehab are all on programs specifically
designed to their individuals needs and
are very closely monitored.
I started going three days per week on
January 18. We all wear a heart monitor
throughout each session and our blood
pressure is checked each time we come
off an exercise machine. RN Cheryl
Gomes and exercise physiologist Kristin
Alverenga run the program and couldn’t
make you feel safer or more relaxed.
They have eliminated the fear factor. If
you are willing to put in the effort, they
are very enthusiastic about helping you
reach your goals.
So that’s the gig. People are telling me
I’m a lucky guy – and me feeling like
I’ve been through some sort of hell.
As the days pass, I’ve begun to realize
that I was very lucky and continue to
be so. It was a terrifying experience,
exacerbated by my fears and wild
imagination of what lay ahead. I believe
I’ll nominate the staff of Jordan Hospital
for an academy award for their expertise,
their patience, and the reassurance
they’ve demonstrated over the past
two months.
In closing, I’d summarize my
thoughts as follows:
by Wil Stearns, Plymouth Resident
First and foremost, my very sincere
thanks to all who have contributed to
the success of this hospital.
1. If you are a benefactor, you should
be proud of yourself. Your money has
been very well spent.
2. If you were a visionary, congratulations. Jordan Hospital has developed
into a first class leader in health care
in Massachusetts. Great strides have
been made and will continue to be
made.
3. If you’re a patient, thank your lucky
stars that you’re being treated in this
facility. It’s close to home and has
tremendous resources. If your condition warrants outside assistance, you
will be transferred to the appropriate
facility.
4. If you’re on the staff, thank you for
the pride you take in your work
each and every day. No doubt, millions have been spent to create this
outstanding facility. However, the
physical plant and the advanced
equipment are only as effective as
the people behind it.

For over 100 years, The Jordan Hospital Club has been
organizing and sponsoring fundraising events for the
benefit of Jordan Hospital. The Club has grown to include
over 400 members, with an elected Board of Directors.
We remain an independent, not-for-profit community
organization, working alongside the Hospital’s
administration and philanthropy staff to achieve our
ongoing mission and accomplish our goals. Each year
we have expanded our fundraising events to support and
enhance new programs and services at the Jordan. Our current endeavors include
our Annual Appeal, The Beat Goes On road race (this is our new Fall fundraiser to
support the Jordan’s cardiovascular services), our annual Polar Plunge to support
the Cancer Center, and of course, our great annual Duxbury Lawn Party, hosted
every June by the incomparable Roz Thompson at her beautiful waterfront home.
The Jordan Hospital Club continues its original, very special mission of
advocacy, while also supporting hospital visitors and the Jordan’s nursing staff
with scholarship funding. Our members assist with the Patient Craft Cart and
the Bookmobile, they decorate the Jordan at Holiday time, and they operate and
manage the Jordan Hospital Gift Shop. We also proudly sponsor the Teddy Bear
Program for the Jordan’s Emergency Department.
In November 2007, the Jordan Hospital Club presented new President, Peter
Holden, with a check totaling $180,692.00, to benefit the Jordan Hospital Club
Cancer Center, the Hospital’s new Cardiovascular Center, nursing scholarships, and
the Teddy Bear Program. Throughout the 2008 fiscal year, the Club’s fundraising
efforts will continue to emphasize these specific areas. Mark your calendars for our
next big event – our 7th annual Polar Plunge – on Saturday, March 7, 2008! All
proceeds from the Polar Plunge will benefit the Jordan Hospital Club Cancer Center.
Heartfelt thanks from the Jordan Hospital Club to all our supporters and sponsors.
We appreciate each and everyone’s participation in our events. Please continue to
help us reach our goals.

The
Philanthropic
Spirit
Every day, our Jordan volunteers donate their time, energy,
and compassionate caring so that the Jordan can fulfill
its mission. Whether they are distributing books and
magazines, escorting patients, or providing hospitality
to our visitors, these special folks make our Hospital
a much better and richer place. In addition to the
service they render to our patients, many of our
volunteers provide specialized technical service on
important hospital projects. Our Jordan volunteers
are a family affair. Whether they are working directly with
our patients and their families or working behind the scenes, they brighten our days
and enrich our lives. During 2007, over 460 volunteers from across our community
gave over 58,200 hours of service here at the Jordan. We feel blessed by these
amazing colleagues who just give, and we deeply appreciate and treasure every
moment of their time and service.
Michelle S. Caruso, C.A.V.S.
Director of Volunteer Services
“Too often we underestimate the power of a
touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear,
an honest compliment, or the smallest act of
caring – all of which have the potential
to turn a life around.”

We are most fortunate and grateful to report that superior health care here at the Jordan is being sustained by a very special
group of thoughtful donors who have woven their committment to providing decades of important support for health care
through their legacy gifting to the Jordan. Since 1903, legacy gifts, large and small, from many generations of our families and
friends have helped to ensure the Jordan will be here today and tomorrow to provide excellent medical care to our community.

A Chance to Say
“Thank You! ”
The Eben Jordan Legacy Society welcomes and cherishes all
the friends and families who have included the Jordan in their
will or estate plan, created an endowment fund to benefit our
Hospital, or established a life income gift such as a charitable
gift annuity or trust to help us meet the future health needs
of our community. Eben Jordan Legacy Society members hold
a very special place in the hearts of the Jordan family. Our
Legacy Society provides the opportunity for us to celebrate
the generosity of these special friends, and to express our
deep appreciation for their very meaningful legacy of care.
In recent years, the Jordan has received a number of very
significant legacy gifts. These gifts came unexpectedly from
the estates of grateful patients after they had passed on, but
sadly and regretfully we never had the opportunity to thank
these donors personally, or to celebrate with them. Please let
us know if you have included, or plan to include, the Jordan
in your will or estate plan, or if you would like to discuss
creating an endowment gift or establishing a life income gift
such as a charitable gift annuity.
To notify us, or to discuss legacy gifting opportunities, please
write or call Judith Lage-Margalejo at the Philanthropy Office at
Jordan Hospital, 275 Sandwich Street, Plymouth, MA 02360,
Telephone 508-830-2487. For more information, you may also

A
Forever Gift,
w i t h S pe c i a l
As we were going to press with this
annual report of philanthropy, we
received a most welcome call about a
very generous and thoughtful tribute
gift that will benefit the Jordan for a
long time to come…
The family of our dearly missed
benefactor, Lawrence A. “Bill” Sykes,
has generously made a gift to the
Jordan in memory of their parents and
in honor of one of our longtime physicians, Dr. Al Baum. Mr. Sykes passed
away last July, a few months
shy of his 100th birthday. In making
this contribution, the family expressed
their gratitude to Dr. Baum for his
attentive care to their father and his
special interest in, and work with,
elderly patients.
Lawrence A. Sykes
Sept. 26, 1907–July 5, 2007
Enduring Generosity...
We are deeply grateful for the life of Bill Sykes and
for his generosity of spirit. His lifelong caring and
extraordinary gifts to the Jordan were very personal,
meaningful and thoughtful gestures from a quiet, kind
and gentle man, that will have lasting impact on the lives
of many for years to come.

The gift being made by the Sykes
children – Fred, Sandy and Frannie
– will establish the Frances W. and
Lawrence A. Sykes Endowed Fund
to support geriatric care at the Jordan.
We will retain and grow the gift through
prudent investment and fundraising,
and spend a portion of the fund’s
earnings each year as designated by
the donor. In addition, a portion of
their donation will be spent this year
to launch the NICHE program at the
Jordan (Nurses Improving Care for
Health System Elders), providing
the funds for staff training and
implementation tools.
Undertaking the NICHE program was
made possible by this gift, and the
Jordan’s nurses are most appreciative.
When hearing of the gift, Lisa Grant,
R.N., wrote to her program
committee, “I’m forwarding this letter
in great delight, to tell you we just
received a generous grant from the
Sykes family and can move ahead with
our NICHE program. I guess miracles
do happen sometimes.”
All of us are especially grateful for this
gift and the opportunity to preserve the
legacy of Mr. and Mrs. Sykes, whose
family’s relationship with the Jordan
dates back more than three quarters
of a century. In 2002, we proudly
dedicated The Frances W. and
Lawrence A. Sykes Emergency
Department in grateful recognition
of Mr. Sykes’ donation of $1 million,
which he said was “the gift of my lifetime.” How fitting that this gift by his
family will give forever, in his name.
“I am indeed honored by this
extraordinary gift from this
caring family. We are all very
aware that our older adult
patients are living longer, and
their health syndromes are often
misunderstood. As responsible
healthcare providers, we must
support all efforts to reduce
morbidity rates, shorten hospital
stays, and achieve the best health
outcomes for these patients.
All of us here at the Jordan are
indeed fortunate. This most
significant gift will provide us
with the opportunity to educate
our nurses, who are the primary
caregivers of our older patients,
providing them with the important specific principles outlined
by the NICHE program and
the tools necessary to assure
improved care, with decreased
costs and the best possible health
results for our older patients.”

Jordan
Family Fund
The
The Jordan Family Fund was established in 2004 to honor the lives and
achievements of Ellis Brewster, Dr. Harold Hamilton and Lothrop Withington,
and their desire to improve the lives and well being of the Greater Plymouth
community they so dearly loved. The Fund stipulates that fifty percent of every
gift contributed each year will be held as endowment, to grow in perpetuity,
and the other fifty percent will be designated for a current use. For 2007,
current use funds have been designated to support the Jordan’s Initiative for
Excellence in Cardiovascular Medicine.

Commemorative
Gifts
to Jordan Hospital
Many life events inspire us to remember someone lost, or pay tribute to a special person
– a baby’s arrival, a birthday, a graduation, a wedding, or anniversary, Mother’s Day,
Father’s Day, a retirement, thanking a special physician or nurse, or a funeral, are just
a few. A commemorative gift to the Jordan adds extra meaning to these events while
supporting the continuance of vital hospital programs and services for our community.
They are very special for us. The following people have been lovingly remembered or
honored with gifts to the Jordan; their names appear in bold type.

“I consider myself a close
friend and strong advocate
of nursing because of its
unique role in CARING
for patients, which is the
primary reason we all do
what we do!”
The J. Richard Gaintner, M.D.
Memorial Fund
We gratefully announce that family and friends have
established a special fund at Jordan Hospital to support
the work of its Nursing Research Council, and to honor
the accomplished life and cherished memory of
J. Richard Gaintner, M.D. Dr. Gaintner passed away at
the young age of 68 in May 2004, and is sorely missed as
a friend and leader in the Jordan community. A fitting
tribute to Dick, who held the nursing profession in highest
regard throughout his illustrious career in healthcare, the
work of the Council fosters the practice of nursing and
nursing research.
Central to the Jordan’s interdisciplinary team approach to
patient care, the Council’s work is based on the premise
that research utilization and evidence-based practice are the
foundation for clinical nursing that promotes quality patient
care and positive patient outcomes. Through the Council,
nursing care at the Jordan is continuously monitored,
evaluated and modified, as needed. Research encompasses
a wide range of programs and services, i.e., better pain
control, end-of-life issues, and effects of education and self
management on diseases such as diabetes.
Gifts to the Dr. Gaintner Memorial Fund will help with the
cost of data collection and analysis, conducting literature
searches, surveys, publishing and presenting results, and
other related Research tasks, including costs associated
with setting up protocols. For more information on the
Nursing Research Council, or to make a gift in Dick’s
memory, contact the Philanthropy Office at 508-830-2420,
by email to [email protected] or online at

Celebrating
Hospice
the Gift of
When it comes to creating memories, friends and
family are at the heart of sharing in life events. We plan
for weddings, the birth of a child, going off to college,
and retirement. Despite the conversations we have
for these life events, rarely do we have conversations
Deborah Dolaway, MSW, LICSW
Cranberry Hospice Administrator
about a very critical issue: how we want to be cared
for at the end of life. In 2008, a “baby-boomer” will turn 60 every 12 seconds and
roughly 2.4 million Americans will die. Since we cannot avoid the end of our lives,
does it make sense to avoid talking and making choices about what we want when
that time arrives?
Nearly 35% of the people who died last year in the United States chose to die
supported by hospice care. As the myths about hospice care are unraveled by
increased education, more and more people are beginning to understand that when
conventional medical treatment no longer holds the hope of a cure, they do have
a choice. They can choose to have a hospice team help them maintain hope –
hope that they will live every day left to them in comfort, doing the things that
matter most to them. They can choose to maintain control of their care and die
comfortably, with dignity, in the location they choose, surrounded by the people
they love. They can choose to have a hospice team support their caregivers, and
reduce the feeling of being a burden. They can choose to utilize the skills of a
hospice team to “be there”, to listen, and to acknowledge in a new and special way
that their lives are still relevant and meaningful despite their physical decline. They
can choose to have a hospice team care for the emotional well-being of their family
throughout the year after their final goodbye.

With record numbers of patients and
families now making these choices,
hospice care has become the most
rapidly growing segment of the
healthcare industry. This rapid growth
has focused regulatory, legislative and
consumer attention on the quality
of care being provided within the
growing hospice industry. More and
more, evidence-based data is being
required to ensure that hospice care
consistently is the best it can be.
At Cranberry Hospice, we welcome
this attention to quality. We have a 25year history of being supported by the
community because of our reputation
for ethical and skillful care. In the past
two years, we have also been working
hard to help raise the bar for hospice
standards of care, not only for ourselves
but throughout the state. We have
invested time and resources in
developing strong working relationships with the Massachusetts Hospice
Federation, the National Hospice and
Palliative Care Organization, and with
MassPro - the quality arm of Medicare.
We continually measure and evaluate
what we do, and act to improve our
techniques and programs to better
serve our patients and families, based
34
on the evidence we gather. In 2006, we
had a very positive survey from
the Massachusetts Department of
Public Health and in 2007, we were
surveyed and accredited by the
Joint Commission.
At Cranberry Hospice, we routinely
monitor important quality of care
indicators. With our care, 96% of our
patients reported an improvement in
their symptoms within 48 hours of
admission to our program. With our
care, 98% of our patients were able
to avoid hospitalization or nursing
home placement when their goal was
to remain at home. We survey families
during and at the end of care, and
our patient/family satisfaction scores
rank in the top 15% for all hospices
nationwide.
We know that our staff; our Medical
Director, our social workers, nurses,
home health aides, spiritual,
bereavement, volunteer staff and
office support are the heart of our
quality. The dedication, training and
support of our staff impacts every detail
of the care we provide to our patients
and families. Cranberry Hospice had
no staff turnover last year; there were
no positions we were unable to fill,
and our staff satisfaction scores ranked
in the top 99% nationwide. Our staff
continually seeks additional educational
opportunities, advanced certifications,
and fulfills competency requirements
and of at least equal importance, they
consistently bring enormous compassion, emotional resiliency and respect
to their patients.
As an organization, Cranberry
Hospice continues to grow stronger
every year. Yet we are always humbled
by the tremendous strength and kindness we witness in the families we
serve. We are grateful to be invited
into the homes and lives of so many
exceptional people. Knowing that our
growth has come from our patients
and families telling their friends
and physicians they value our care,
knowing that much of our financial
support comes from families and
friends of patients for whom we
have cared, and knowing that our
community values what we do, all of
us at Cranberry Hospice will continue
to strive to provide the community
with the very best end-of-life care.

“You matter
because you are.
You matter to the last
moment of your life
and we will do all we
can for you, not only
to help you die
peacefully, but also to
live until you die.”
~ Dame Cicely Saunders,
Hospice Founder
The term “hospice” can be
traced back to medieval times
when it referred to a place
of shelter and rest for weary
travelers on a long journey.
The name was first applied
to specialized care for dying
patients in 1967 by English
physician Dame Cicely
Saunders, who founded the
first modern hospice – St.
Christopher’s Hospice – in a
residential suburb of London.

Golf
Cranberry Hospice
2007
tournament
By sundown, a wonderful day of golf at Southers Marsh Golf Club last June came to a
close, marking our tournament’s 10th anniversary and netting over $17,500. All proceeds
were raised to support the many programs and services Cranberry Hospice offers to
the communities we serve. We are deeply grateful for the generosity of our sponsors,
volunteers, donors, and Southers Marsh Golf Club – all who contributed to making this
year’s tournament a truly outstanding one.

Our Very Special
of Cranberry Hospice
Friends of
Cranberry
Hospice Board
- 2007
Every year, over 300 volunteers from across our community who make up the Friends
of Cranberry Hospice get together to contribute their time, talents and financial support
to make magic happen in first weekend in December.
Jean Pannell, Co-President
In addition to the funds raised to help provide care for under-insured and uninsured
patients of Cranberry Hospice and for Hospice staff education, their annual Festival of
Trees, brings great fun, loving and sharing to many, not just during that very special
weekend of activities, but to those in dire need of warmth and joy. Over fifty of these
uniquely and lovingly decorated holidays trees are delivered after the Festival to nursing
homes, the pediatric unit and other patient care floors at Jordan Hospital, as well as to
women’s shelters in our community, to our libraries and our town halls.

Through their ongoing inspiration and selfless efforts all year long, much comfort and
joy is given to those in great need, and then caringly spread far and wide across the
communities served by Cranberry Hospice, and we are all very grateful.
(Above) The Friends’ co-presidents,
Linda Pisani and Jean Pannell.
(Left) Left to Right: Gen Jaeger, chairman of the Tree of Hope committee, with her
daughter, Hannah, and Linda Vopat, who, with her husband, own Schattenberg Christmas
Tree Farm and Kennel in Plympton. The Volpat family has donated the Tree of Hope each
year for the Festival of Trees.

Commemorative
Gifts
to Cranberry Hospice
January 1, 2007 –December 31, 2007
Whenever you want to say “you’ll never be forgotten,” or “I’ll always remember your kindness,” perhaps
simply a “thank you” or “congratulations,” your gift to our Commemorative Gifts Program brings a double reward.
Not only does it honor a life or celebrate a special moment, it also supports very vital services provided by Cranberry
Hospice across our community. The very special gifts recognized below were given in memory of, or in honor of someone
special, and are deeply appreciated. The names of those being remembered or honored appear in bold type.

A note from
a family
“For a year and a half,
Cranberry Hospice was
a big part of my life.
First with my grandmother,
who died after six months of
hospice care. She loved
the people who cared for
her, and with the help of
your wonderful hospice
nurses and home health
aides we were able to let
her stay in her own home
until the end…Just days
after his mother died, my
Dad learned his heart was
severely damaged…and
IN HONOR OF
so, just six months after
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Coste
Madeleine Lynch
saying goodbye to Gram

Patti and Bob Ryan
and hospice, we welcomed
them back into our lives
to care for Dad.
He had some of his best
conversations with his
nurses and home health
aides…And they gave my
mother the confidence to do
what she needed to do…
Needless to say, Thank you,
thank you, thank you.
We’re so grateful that there
are the wonderful caring
people who work for

Paving the Way
to Better Health, One Brick at a Time
At the Jordan, we are growing
something marvelous right here on
our campus – a celebration of life
and good health. Installed at the main
entrance rotunda of the Jordan in
2005, our Circle of Care and
Walkway of Friends started as a way
for our employees and donors to
make a personalized gift to the
Gifts of Care capital campaign and
also help beautify our Hospital
campus. More than 800 gifts have
been engraved with personal thoughts
and messages, and placed – truly a
lifetime recognition gift!

Come and walk with us…
Celebrating a birth, a marriage, an
anniversary, as a memorial, special
honor or dedication, as a Mother’s
or Father’s Day gift, the reasons to
place a brick are countless, and
many are quite creative. The Walkway
and Circle are a favorite of visitors
and employees who are often seen
slowly walking the path to read our
donors’ sentiments.
Gifts or pledges of $500 to the
Jordan’s Annual Fund will reserve
your brick for engraving and
placement. All funds will be used
to continue the Jordan’s mission,
helping us expand our capacity to
care and ensuring sustainability for
the future.
You can support the Jordan and its
Cranberry Hospice with these unique
gift opportunities which will provide
support and resources to inspire
spiritual renewal. They will be a
treasured memory for family and
friends who visit the Jordan for many
years to come.
Your brick may be personalized with
up to 3 lines of text, and each line
can be up to 20 characters in length.
Bricks are installed several times
throughout the year. Notification
is sent to donors and designated
individuals when the pieces have
been installed.
A Garden for Hope
This Summer, a special memorial brick garden will be
inaugurated, also at the main entrance of the Jordan –
an oasis where Hope can grow.
Our Cranberry Hospice Garden of Remembrance is
designed as a contemplative area to heal body and spirit,
a beautiful and serene setting to provide a quiet place
for reflection, where family and friends can
spend time and be reminded of
the legacy of loved ones.
Cranberry Hospice has begun accepting
gifts and pledges of $500 to its Annual Fund,
with reservations for these bricks.
