In 2014, HomeAid Northern Virginia—along with seven builder captains
and their trade partners—gave 1,300 formerly homeless individuals
what matters most: a home, a second chance, and a reason to hope.
Together, we renovated, upgraded, and expanded eight properties—
with the costs for four of them 100 percent donated.
All serve the area's homeless, including families, single adults with
mental disabilities, survivors of domestic violence, and teens.
second chances are
a reason for hope
Through Women Giving Back, we gave 4,000 women and children
new confidence with 66,600 articles of free clothing and accessories.
We were honored with five prestigious awards, one of which came
with a $25,000 prize. We forged new alliances with new partners,
and gratefully accepted a $100,000 gift from a local developer. We
helped create new memories and opportunities for our youngest
citizens, whether it was throwing out the first pitch at a baseball
game or starting school with a brand new backpack. And most
importantly, we did it together. Thank you.

“The building industry works
hard all year, every year,
building homes for people
who can pretty much take
care of themselves. What
we don’t have as easily is the
opportunity to help those who
don’t have as much. HomeAid
gives us that chance. And
once you’ve worked with
HomeAid, and you see how
grateful people are to receive
what you’re uniquely able to
give them, you’ll keep doing
it year after year. It’s a reward
for the soul and the spirit. It
gets to the point that it almost
feels a little selfish … you get
such a feeling from these
projects that you want to
do it again and again.”
2014 Builder Captains and Trade Partners
By investing nearly $250,000 into eight properties, HomeAid and its partners
saved shelters a historical year-end high of 92 percent in construction costs.
The result? More than $220,000 in funding that service providers redirected to
programs that directly benefit our region’s homeless men, women, and children.
thank you!

HomeAid’s 4th Annual Night at the Ballpark
While bringing kids to the ballpark isn’t
anything new for HomeAid, it was a firsttime experience for many of the kids and
parents who attended HomeAid’s Fourth
Annual Night at the Ballpark in August.
More than 300 kids and adults—the bestattended night at the ballpark that HomeAid
has hosted to date—made happy memories
at the game. The event was mentioned on
NBC-4's nightly broadcast.

“HomeAid projects are a
godsend. It means we don’t
have to spend our funding on a
renovation—we can put those
precious funds toward
programs and services for our
residents. The wear and tear
on our facility is significant,
and while we can take care of
a lot of basic maintenance and
repairs ourselves, we just can’t
budget for major projects.”

13th Annual Gala
Raises Nearly
$300,000
Building Community, Together
The Annual Builders &
Friends BBQ is one of
our best ways of saying
thank you, and in 2014,
we recognized more than
200 homebuilders and
trade partners at the fifth
annual event. Attendees
raised more than $24,000
to help us continue our
mission.
Having fun is equally
important, and at Women
Giving Back’s (WGB)
Cinco de Mayo event,
more than 200 guests
enjoyed a night of dancing
and dining under a big
tent. We raised more than
$70,000—a 62 percent
increase over 2013—and
the guest list doubled.
For our service provider
partners, we hosted
“Transformational
Housing: Out of Shelter,
Getting and Keeping a
Home,” a forum attended
by more than 60
representatives from 30
Northern Virginia nonprofit and public sector
housing organizations.
Three successful golf tournaments, a 5K race,
and a cornhole challenge brought in $50,500
for HomeAid Northern Virginia in 2014.
THANK YOU Brookfield Residential, NVBIA,
National Potomac Yacht Club, Pulte Group
and Van Metre Companies!
An enthusiastic crowd of 425
homebuilders, trade partners
and friends of the homebuilding
industry raised nearly $300,000
in November at HomeAid
Northern Virginia’s 13th Annual
Gala & Auction, “On the Red
Carpet,” presented by M&T Bank.
The funds, which go toward
advancing HomeAid’s mission
of ending homelessness in
Northern Virginia, were raised
through event registration,
sponsorships, the silent and
live auctions, and a $58,000
paddle challenge with a
$50,000 match from Doug
and Ann Smith.
2014
Put Your Talents, Skills &
Resources to Use!
There are many creative ways to support
HomeAid Northern Virginia, including:
• volunteer support and service;
• gifts of stocks and mutual funds;
• workplace giving and employer matching;
• sponsorships; and
• in-kind donations.
EXAMPLE:
Toll Brothers donated more
than 150 new kitchen appliances;
HomeAid Northern Virginia then
coordinated distribution with
Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore,
with proceeds from the sale
benefiting both organizations.

Applause!
Support for WGB at an All-Time High
WGB gained a huge boost in media attention
when then Governor-Elect Terry McAuliffe
stopped by The Store in January, where
volunteers were participating in a day of
service by sorting clothing. McAuliffe's visit
to WGB was covered in the Washington Post
the next day. In July, the Post followed up
with a full-length feature story on WGB.
Thanks to the following companies for their support in 2014!
HomeAid was named a 2014
Best of Reston honoree, in
the Civic/Community Leader
category, by Cornerstones
and the Greater Reston
Chamber of Commerce. The
selection committee was
particularly impressed by the
generosity of builders and
trade partners who worked
on HomeAid projects, and
for their commitment to
affordable housing during
an economic downturn in
their own business.
Women Giving Back (WBG)
Founder Terri Stagi was named
one of eight finalists out of
more than 700 nominations
and received a $25,000 prize
from PANDORA Jewelry’s’
Hearts of Today Contest.
The funding will go toward
furthering WGB’s goals in 2015.
The honor was reported in
Leesburg Today.
