He will be celebrating 81st birthday this month. Born on 23rd September, 1935. He spent around five decades and played popular villain roles in Bollywood. His best roles in movies like Shaheed (1965), Upkaar (1967), Purab Aur Pashchim, Do Raaste (1969), Kati Patang (1970),Do Anjaane (1976),Jaadu Tona (1977), Kala Sona, Dostana (1980), Kranti (1981), Phool Bane Angaarey (1991),Bewaffa Se Waffa are still appreciated. He is the recipient of many prestigious award & honored with Filmfare (best supporting actor) Award in 1976 for Do Anjane hindi film. Senior Journalist & Managing Editor Dwarka Parichay S.S.Dogra interviewed Bollywood star Prem Chopra at his residence in Mumbai. Let’s find out what he shared with him. Excerpts: Tell me about your early age & association with acting. In my early young age I used to act in my native place Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. After completion of my graduation, I decided to become actor. My father clearly told me that if you want to become IAS officer he could spend money upon him otherwise you have to find out your potential there in the cinema world . When you move to Mumbai? In the early 60s. As a hero, My first film was Chaudhary Karnail Singh. Its an interesting story that I got the offer this film in the local train. During travel in the local train, one person came to me and asked do you like to act in the movie. He took me to Ranjeet Studio, there Director said OK. I selected & director instructed me that the shooting of the said film would take place in Pune. But as you know that I was working for Times of India Group as Circulation Manager, so I pretended in the office & took leave for ten days. After the success of this film, I got three more Punjabi movies but came to know that these Punjabi movies are of low budget so I thought that I should move to Hindi Cinema. When you got the opportunity in Hindi movie? Way back in 1966, “Kanwari” was my first Hindi movie in which I was main lead hero. Wadia Movies offered me a lead role in “Main Shaadi Karne Chala” and employed me on 500/-rupees monthly salary. But I was not dare to leave my Times Group job because there I was getting rupees one thousand salary plus TA & DA and heading as Circulation Manager for Odisa, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab & Western Bengal. Movies like Woh Kaun Thi, Shaheed, Main Shaadi Karne Chala and Teesri Manzil , after Upkaar in 1967, I left The Times of India job to concentrate solely on acting. Arjun Thakur Education in India is provided by the public sector as well as the private sector, with control and funding coming from three levels: central, state, and local. Under various articles of the Indian Constitution, free and compulsory education is provided as a fundamental right to children between the ages of 6 and 14. India has made progress in terms of increasing the primary education attendance rate and expanding literacy to approximately three-quarters of the population in the 7-10 age group, by 2011. India's improved education system is often cited as one of the main contributors to its economic development. Much of the progress, especially in higher education and scientific research, has been credited to various public institutions. While enrollment in higher education has increased steadily over the past decade, reaching a Gross Enrollment Ratio of 24% in 2013,[6] there still remains a significant distance to catch up with tertiary education enrollment levels of Project on Education developed nations,[7] a challenge that will be necessary to overcome in order to continue to reap a demographic dividend from India's comparatively young population. At the primary and secondary level, India has a large private school system complementing the government run schools, with 29% of students receiving private education in the 6 to 14 age group. Certain post-secondary technical schools are also private. Another report from 2013 stated that there were 229 million students enrolled in different accredited urban and rural schools of India, from Class I to XII and they representing an increase of 2.3 million students over 2002 total enrollment, and a 19% increase in girl's enrollment. While quantitatively India is inching closer to universal education, the quality of its education has been questioned particularly in its government run school system. Some of the reasons for the poor quality include absence of around 25 percent of teachers every day. States of India have introduced tests and education assessment system to identify and improve such schools. It is important to clarify that while there are private schools in India, they are highly regulated in terms of what they can teach, in what form they can operate and all other aspects of operation. Hence, the differentiation of government schools and private schools can be misguiding. In India's education system, a significant number of seats are reserved under affirmative action policies for the historically disadvantaged Scheduled Castes and Scheduled tribes and Other Backward Classes. In universities, colleges, and similar institutions affiliated to the federal government, there are a minimum 50% of reservations applicable to these disadvantaged groups. Maharashtra had 73% reservation in 2014, which is the highest percentage of reservations in India. Sukriti Saraswat Kabbadi is a game which was earlier used by the kingdoms to show their strength in the sports to the enemies , is now facing a tough task of gaining the attention of people. India is a place where this game originated but the government of India is literally doing nothing to preserve this sport. Kabbadi is played at different or various international tournaments and if I talk about past years India is the world champion of kabbadi. Now I want to ask something, does anyone know or remember the name of the player who helped us in winning this tournament? Or is anyone aware that the players hardly get any facilities as compared to the players of other sports? And seriously they don't even have the team bus to travel in, to the stadium. The women’s team which won the world cup last year had to take auto's and rickshaw to reach to the stadium. Well it's funny that the sport which has originated in India does not get any support from the government. The only step taken to preserve this sport is taken by Marshall sports by launching a similar league like IPL in cricket and" THE PRO KABBADI LEAGUE" for kabbadi. I urge all the readers of this article to raise their voice and lend their help to preserve this ancient sport and also make other people aware about this sport. Virat Kohli steady at No.2 in ODI rankings Ravleen Kaur India's batting maestro Virat Kohli held onto 2nd position in the latest ICC ODI rankings for batsmen released here today, while Rohit Sharma dropped a place to 7th. Opener Shikhar Dhawan maintained his 8th position. 1st position is grabbed by batsmen A.B. de Villiers of South Africa. The 25 year old, Virat Kohli scored 275 runs in the series, which helped him to go above New Zealand's Kane Williamson. During the series, the Yorkshireman also achieved a career-best rating of 776 points, which he had attained after the ODI at Trent Bridge in which he scored 85. Root is the only one of the four England batsmen to make upward movement following a 4-1 series win over Pakistan. The good news for Pakistan was the movement of its captain Azhar Ali and wicketkeeper Sarfarz Ahmed. Azhar's 208 runs in the series has seen him move up 15 places from 48th to 33rd rank, while Sarfarz, who was the highest rungetter in the series from either side with 300 runs, has moved up 21 places to 39th position. In the players ranking for bowlers, Australia pacers Mitchell Starc,James Faulkner and John Hastings have made significant gains after their performances in Sri Lanka. 2 kil ed in police firing,16 areas in Bengaluru put under curfew Pramesh Jain Two cops injured while controlling the violence in hegganahalli as goons torched the the New Hi tech patrolling hoysala which came to disberse the crowd and make the situation under but the goons assaulted a sub inspector and a constable . * More than 100 vehicles were set on fire in bengaluru buses, cars, lorries, bearing TN registration were set on ablaze . * The court had this morning modified an earlier order and said Karnataka has to release less water to Tamil Nadu, but for five more days. The BHRO’s activist accompanied by students, Human Rights activists and activists of National Student Federation (NSF) raised slogans demanding to end the siege at the house of Rauf, who has been alleged by the forces of hosting the family members of a senior Baloch political leader. The BHRO in a statement said that the Frontier Corps (FC) and the police have kept Rauf’s house under siege for four days. “The FC and Police have kept Mr. Rauf’s house under siege for 4 days where there is an old man along with two women and two children. After 2 days of harassment of women and children FC returned and police took control of the house,” the statement said. Pointing out that police is now torturing the women and children through different ways, the protesters revealed that neither Human Rights activists nor neighbours are allowed to visit the house. The statement said that the FC and the police do not have any reason to surround and siege the house and the move is only to harass the family activists, adding it increases tension. It pointed out that the Hil ary Clinton regrets calling ‘half’ of Donald Trump backers ‘deplorable’ Hillary Clinton on Sunday expressed “regret” for calling half of Donald Trump’s supporters “deplorable” people but promised to keep fighting “bigotry and racist rhetoric” by her Republican rival as the presidential campaign got shriller ahead of the D-day. “Last night I was ‘grossly generalistic,’ and that’s never a good idea. I regret saying ‘half’ — that was wrong,” Clinton said in a statement in which she also vowed to call out “bigotry” in Trump’s campaign. The 68-year-old Democratic presidential nominee had sparked an uproar on Friday when she described Trump’s supporters at a fundraiser. “To just be grossly generalistic, you can put half of Trump supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables,” Clinton said. “Right? Racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic, you name it.” She added, “And unfortunately, there are people like that and he has lifted them up. He has given voice to their websites that used to only have 11,000 people, now have 11 million. He tweets and retweets offensive, hateful, mean-spirited rhetoric.” Clinton then said some of these people were “irredeemable” and “not America.” She described the rest of his supporters as people who are looking for change in any form because of economic anxiety and urged her supporters to empathise with them. In her statement, Clinton was emphatic in condemning what she said was Trump’s racially insensitive campaign ahead of the November 8 presidential poll. She listed a series of controversial moments from Trump’s campaign, including his fight with a Muslim Gold Star family, criticism of a federal US judge of Mexican heritage and his insinuation that President Barrack Obama wasn’t born in the US. Don’t want to see Indo-Pak tensions lead to ‘some incident’: US The US has called for dialogue between India and Pakistan to de-escalate tensions in security interests of the region, saying it does not want to see “tensions spiral out of control” and lead to “some kind of incident”. “We strongly encourage in all of our dealings with either India and/or Pakistan stronger relations between the two countries. It’s clearly in the security interests of the region that they work to de-escalate tensions and that they have dialogue,” State Department Deputy Spokesperson Mark Toner said. “That’s something we constantly encourage for just that or out of just that concern, which is that we don’t want to see tensions escalate, spiral out of control, and lead to some kind of incident,” he said. security forces themselves were pushing the bad situation towards worse. The protesters demanded that if Rauf has breached the law with his activities, he should be treated as per law. “According to Constitution of Pakistan, politics and democratic struggle is right of every citizen, and if state institutions have any objections regarding activities of any person he should be treated as per law, but in Balochistan unlike legal procedure, military forces’ will is the law itself,” the statement added. The statement also highlighted harassment of Baloch women and children is not something new, adding they are tortured through different ways. “In Makran, Awaran, Jhalawan and Dera Bugti, many women were abducted and killed by Pakistani forces. Last year in the month of July Pakistani forces abducted two women during an operation from Awaran and were released after a few days. Later they told their story that how they were treated and what tortures they went through in jail,” the statement said. Farzana Majeed Baluch, a Baloch human rights activist, had earlier asserted that history was repeating in itself as the human rights violations committed by Pakistan in Balochistan and the army targeting Baloch women was as bad as the torture and rape of women that took place during the Liberation War of 1971, which eventually led to the creation of a new country, Bangladesh, from what was then East Pakistan. Iran welcomes Syria deal, urges political solution Iran, a close ally and military backer of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, welcomed a U.S.-Russian deal for a truce in Syria, saying on Sunday the conflict should be ended through politics. The agreement, by the powers that back opposing sides in the five-year-old war, promises a nationwide truce from sundown on Monday, improved access for humanitarian aid and joint military targeting of hardline Islamist groups. “Iran supports any ceasefire and peace plan to end the humanitarian crisis in Syria or limit it that involves a political solution … based on the Syrian people’s votes,” said Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Jaberi Ansari, quoted by the state news agency IRNA. “Iran has always believed that there is no military solution to the Syrian crisis and that it should be resolved through peaceful means,” he added. Washington and Moscow reached the breakthrough deal early on Saturday to try to restore peace in Syria, but air strikes hours later on a busy market place that killed and injured dozens added to rebels’ doubts that any ceasefire could hold. Russia and Iran are both providing crucial military support to President Assad against rebels and jihadi fighters in Syria’s civil war. Iran has sent what it said were military “advisers” to help Assad and allowed Russian fighterbombers to use an Iranian base to launch operations in Syria in August. 7 Delhi/ NCR New Delhi, 12 - 18 September, 2016 Sandeep Marwah Special Invitee at Musical Opera at Rome Women Safety and Self-Defence Training Rome: Renowned international media personality and President of Asian Education Group Sandeep Marwah was invited at the most popular musical opera at Rome. Review: ‘Baar Baar Dekho’ Film: “Baar Baar Dekho” Director: Nitya Mehra Cast: Katrina Kaif and Sidharth Malhotra Rating: 4 Stars (4 / 5) What if we get the chance to rectify all the big mistakes of our life? And what if a magical wand takes us into the future to personally witness all those critical twists and turns on the road journey of life where we may swerve into the wrong lane? And then, what if we get a chance to revise our actions and deeds accordingly? Debutant director Nitya Mehra’s “Baar Baar Dekho” is unlike any romantic yarn — I hesitate from giving it that looselyused term the ‘rom-com’. It is the ultimate what-if saga, narrated with a tender care and subdued splendour that makes every moment between the lead pair precious and gladdening. Watching the film, we are just happy to see Jai and Diya together. It could be because they are played by two of the best-looking stars in our cinema. Sidharth Malhotra and Katrina Kaif look so madefor-each-other that it seems absurd to even suggest that they can be separated by destiny or design — or in this case by designed destiny. But human nature is such — and this is the ‘sach’ (truth) that this unusually conceptualized film dwells on with mollifying magnificence — that it sinks the very ship that keeps hope afloat. With believable nearsightedness — don’t we all mess up in life? — Jai tells Diya on the day of their wedding that he would rather not marry her and instead pursue his dreams of going to Cambridge. The hurt, humiliation, bewilderment and disappointment that Katrina shows on screen in her sequence of painful rejection dashing hopes of shared lifetime, is a joy to behold. This is the first occasion in her career when Katrina has actually sunk her ego into her character. You can see her feeling the hurt and the happiness with equal sincerity. 9 Entertainment New Delhi, 12 - 18 September, 2016 Mumbai: Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap says he feels sad and responsible for the falling graph of Ranbir Kapoor, who was once at the top of the game in Bollywood. Addressing the meeting of Parliamentary Consultative Committee attached to her Ministry in New . Minister said unmindful exploitation of groundwater on large scale has led to sharp decline in ground water level and deterioration of water quality in major parts of the country. She said many factors such as increasing demand of ground water for agriculture, industrial and drinking purposes, change in cropping pattern and growing of paddy and cash crops that consume large quantities of water, scanty rainfall in arid and semi-arid regions, large ground water extraction during droughts when all other sources shrink and rapid pace of urbanization resulting in reduced natural recharge to aquifers are responsible for the rapid depletion of groundwater level. Terming the situation as serious Sushri Bharti called for mass awareness movement for restrained exploitation of groundwater. Opening Statement by Prime Minister at the 14th ASEAN-India Summit Rajesh Sharma This is my third IndiaASEAN Summit. I am delighted to renew close bonds of friendship that we have nurtured with ASEAN over the years. I would also like to thank you for the excellent arrangements and for the warmth of your welcome. The visit to the beautiful heritage city of Vientiane reminds me of deep historical and cultural links that the city shares with India. I also commend Vietnam for its able leadership of ASEAN-India relations as the Country Coordinator. Our engagement with ASEAN is not just about a solid base of shared civilizational heritage. It is also driven by our common strategic priorities of securing our societies and bringing peace, stability and prosperity to the region. ASEAN is central to India's 'Act East' Policy. And, our ties are a source of balance and harmony in the region. The substance of our strategic partnership covers all three major segments of ASEAN activities-security, economic and socio-cultural. And, the ASEAN India Plan of Action for the period 2016-2020 has served us well in fulfilling our objectives. We have already implemented 54 out of 130 activi- ties identified in the Plan of Action. Enhancing connectivity in all its dimensionsphysical, digital, economic, institutional and cultural-is at the heart of India’s strategic partnership with ASEAN. And, readiness to link our economic success, and share development experiences with ASEAN nations, especially the CLMV countries, drives our engagement. In face of growing traditional and non-traditional challenges, politicosecurity cooperation is a key emerging pillar of our relationship. Rising export of terror, growing radicalization through ideology of hatred, and spread of extreme violence define the landscape of common security threats to our societies. The threat is local, regional and transnational at the same time. Our partnership with ASEAN seeks to craft a response that relies on coordination, cooperation and sharing of experiences at multiple levels. Next year will be a historic milestone in our ties. We will celebrate 25 years of our Dialogue Partnership, 15 years of our Summit Level interaction and 5 years of our Strategic Partnership. The celebrations will be launched at an ASEANIndia Foreign Ministers' Meeting in 2017. Also without the active involvement and guidance of the instructor Ms.Navpreet Kaur, this event would not have possible. About 28 female teenagers from the camp participated in this event. The event was a complete success as seen in not only the smiles of the instructor and the organisers but also its participants.Certificates too were given to the participants. In a time where not only females are becoming more and more independent and sustaining themselves but also, crimes against women are on the rise this workshop is quite relevant. 2 killed in police firing,16 areas................... * The state's Congress government and the police appeared to be severely challenged by the scale of protests and the damage to public property. Images showed young men turning over an Innova car and wrecking it using rods, and throwing stones at shops. The Supreme Court had earlier said on protests in Karnataka: "Citizens cannot become a law unto themselves." * In the evening, large gatherings were banned in Bengaluru as a precaution. Most schools and colleges and some offices were closed early and metro services were briefly stopped. *Thousands of policemen, including those in riot gear, spread out across the city to check violence. The centre also rushed ten companies comprising 1,000 personnel of the special AntiRiot paramilitary force RAF to Karnataka. Karnataka stopped buses from heading to Tamil Nadu and police jeeps were positioned along the border to warn vehicles against entering that state. There were protests also in Tamil Nadu. The New Woodlands hotel in Chennai, owned by a Karnataka company, was vandalised by a fringe group that allegedly also threw a petrol bomb and left pamphlets warning of retaliation if Tamils were targeted in Karnataka. for more detail pls visit. www.countryandpolitics.in 12 Sports New Delhi, 12 - 18 September, 2016 ch-lh-lh-vkbZ v/;{k ds :i esa euksgj Mwcrs tgkt dks NksM+dj pys x,% Bkdqj xzsVj uks,MkA chlhlhvkbZ v/;{k vuqjkx Bkdqj us vkbZlhlh ps;jeSu 'k'kkad euksgj ij fu'kkuk lk/krs gq, mu ij vkjksi yxk;k fd mUgksaus cksMZ dks ml le; Stainless steel firms urge govt to hike import duty to 12.5% Reeling under an onslaught of cheap imports, domestic stainless steel industry has urged the government to raise the import duty on such products to 12.5 per cent. Stainless steel flat product Imports hit a record 5.32 lakh tonne (LT) in 2015-16, which is 25 per cent of the total domestic demand of about 24 LT. Since 2011-12 (3.07 LT) inbound shipments have grown by 50 per cent, industry body India Stainless Steel Development Association (ISSDA) said. India produces about 30 LT of stainless steel, which is mainly used in kitchenrelated products followed by process industry, engineering, automobiles, Railways and buildings. “Like steel, stainless sector is also facing a spate of cheap Imports that now accounts for one-fourth of the domestic consumption. We are requesting the government to protect the industry,” ISSDA President N C Mathur said. Industry is demanding that government raise the basic customs duty (BCD) on finished stainless steel flat products from 7.5 per cent at present to 12.5 per cent, which is on par with that on carbon steel. Also, as several raw materials used in making stainless steel are imported, it is urging the government to bring the import duty on such products to zero, Mathur added. Humsafar train to be introduced next month with 20 % higher fares Close on the heels of surge pricing in Premier trains like Rajdhani and Shatabdi express, ‘Humsafar’ trains are set to be launched next month with fares that would be about 20 per cent higher than the normal Mail and Express services.
