A MESSAGE TO THE COMMUNITY
For over 130 years, you have allowed us to be of service to
this community. We thank you for that opportunity. Lakeview
Health works diligently to remain your preferred provider and
to bring a broader range of services to the St. Croix Valley. To
ensure your continued local access to primary and specialty
care, Lakeview Health has affiliated with HealthPartners, a
highly regarded health system in the Midwest. As a member of
the HealthPartners Family of Care, we are able to provide you
with a wider range of local services.
Lakeview Health will be working with you and with
HealthPartners to achieve the Triple Aim: 1) improve the health
of the St. Croix Valley region, 2) enhance the patient care
experience (quality, access and reliability), and 3) reduce per
capita cost of care.
Lakeview Health remains a distinct entity with its communitybased governing boards. All past and future contributions
to the Lakeview Foundation will continue to be used in
accordance with the donor’s wishes under the review and
direction of Lakeview’s local board leadership.
Thanks to your contributions through the Lakeview
Foundation, capital improvement projects were underway
at Lakeview Hospital throughout 2010. A new emergency
department recently opened and, the hospital will offer all
private inpatient rooms by mid-2011.
We know that you expect improved access to your healthcare
information. Stillwater Medical Group implemented an
electronic medical record in 2010. Soon, you will be able to
access your medical records on-line through any desktop or
hand-held computer device.
Lakeview Health is working to meet your needs with
expanded services, personalized care, improved facilities and
individualized access to information. We look forward to
bringing the best to you in 2011 through our new relationship
with HealthPartners.

COMMUNITY BENEFIT
As a non-profit, community-owned organization, Lakeview Health has a mission of promoting and sponsoring
superior health services for all members of the community. Part of this mission assures access to quality
medical care for all residents, regardless of ability to pay. The following programs were subsidized by
Lakeview Health in fiscal year 2010 in an effort to reduce financial barriers to access: Diabetes Education
Program, Lakeview Homecare & Hospice, The Gathering, Medical Services to Area Nursing Homes,
Prescription Assistance Program, St. Croix Valley Parish Nurse Program, support groups (Alzheimer’s, Cancer,
Diabetes, Grief/Loss)

HEALTH AND WELLNESS IN THE COMMUNITY
Lakeview Health supports health and wellness in our community.
Our foundation is charged with serving as the “eyes, ears and
heart” of Lakeview. The programs and organizations listed
below provide focus and direction to critical health and quality
of life issues identified in our community. Lakeview exercises
leadership through the application of its expertise and resources
in addressing these issues that impact the St. Croix Valley.
S.H.I.P. Statewide Health Improvement Program
Mission/purpose - To help Minnesotans live longer, better,
healthier lives by reducing the burden of chronic disease.
Interventions are designed to:
• reduce the percentage of Minnesotans who are obese or
overweight - with a focus on nutrition and activity;
• reduce the percentage of Minnesotans who use or are exposed
to tobacco.
Lakeview’s support - Provides space for monthly meetings.
Lakeview leadership is a member of the Community Leadership
Team and communicates regularly on the discussion and
activity with the Board. Support from Medical Staff - Dr. Ted
Haland shares information and feedback with Stillwater Medical
Group providers. Lakeview Health provides opportunities to
promote and implement interventions impacting obesity, inschool nutrition services through education in our local schools,
breastfeeding initiatives with new mothers and tobacco cessation
programs.
C.H.A.T. Community Health Action Team
Mission/purpose - It is a true community-based health and
wellness roundtable, meeting monthly at Lakeview Hospital
Lakeview’s support -Hosted by Lakeview and chaired by
Stillwater Medical Group physician Dr. Ted Haland and
Foundation VP Paul Erickson. Current discussion includes
expansion of school-based clinic services to benefit children in
District 834 and support to S.H.I.P.
Y.A.D.P. Youth Alcohol and Drug Project
Mission/purpose - Provide support to area youth with positive
alternatives to drug and alcohol use, Lakeview is a member of
the steering committee, in addition to providing advocacy and
support for a Chemical Health Prevention Specialist in schools
who provides direct counseling of at-risk students, support of
their parents and protection of the school environment.
C.H.A.C. Chemical Health Action Collaborative
Mission/purpose - Washington County’s Chemical Health Action
Collaborative is to prevent and reduce youth chemical use through
partnership, education, intervention and community social change.
Lakeview serves as a member of the steering committee and as a
member of the subcommittee concerned with reducing chemical
access to our youth.

Through your support we were able to award scholarships to 15 students in the following fields of study:
three Bachelor of Science nurses, one post-graduate nurse, three associate degree nurses, four MD’s, one
Dr. of Osteopathy student, a Dr. of Pharmacy, a radiation-tech, and a Dr. of Physical Therapy. Seven of these
scholarships were Alice Anderson nursing scholarships.

MEDICAL MISSION TRIP
Rob Clifford and his son, John, served on a medical mission trip in Ecuador through the University of Notre
Dame’s chapter of the Timmy Foundation. They provided pharmaceutical, medical and dental treatments.
“We worked at two sites daily and saw 85-120 patients per day at each site, for a total of about 200 patients per
day,” said Rob Clifford.
Rob Clifford, RN, has worked in Lakeview Hospital’s emergency department since 2001. Lakeview Hospital
sponsored a portion of Rob’s financial contribution that is required of each volunteer. Lakeview Hospital also
donated medical supplies for the trip.
John Clifford is a biology major, with medical school intent, at the University of Norte Dame. John volunteered
at Lakeview Hospital for three years during summer breaks in high school and college. He raised funds through
community donations to pay for a portion of his trip.

PROJECT REVITALIZE
Thanks to the generosity of our Best Medicine Campaign donors, Lakeview Hospital experienced a much
needed facility update and expansion.
• Patient rooms at Lakeview Hospital were remodeled and updated. All inpatient rooms are now private.
• An additional operating room suite was added, and the surgery sterilization area was remodeled.
• The expansion of the Emergency Department added an additional 4,600 square feet, including two trauma
rooms, ten treatment rooms and an attached ambulance garage. The expansion provides enhanced privacy
for patients and a more efficient work flow for employees.
• Lakeview Hospital’s new state-of-the-art Sleep Center laboratory with two patient rooms for overnight
studies is helping patients with a broad array of sleep disorders. On-site home CPAP equipment services
are now available for those who require treatment.
• The larger remodeled space for the Outpatient Pharmacy features an expanded over-the-counter
product section.

GREATEST NEED FUND
Lakeview’s greatest need or “unrestricted fund” is currently defined by capital items that aren’t budgeted in
this fiscal cycle. These are things that our executive management, medical staff and board have identified as
nice to have but aren’t a priority due to limited financial resources available to us. It is through the generosity
of our donors that this fund allows us to purchase items that elevate our patient’s experience during their
stay.
Our hospital has prided itself on maintaining fiscal integrity and responsibility throughout our history – it is
through philanthropy that we have been fortunate to secure these items to the benefit of those we serve. We
are grateful to our donors that have answered the call in giving to this fund.
In fiscal year 2010 this fund had $82,000 to disburse. The internal grant allocation committee determined
Lakeview’s greatest need and the items listed below had the highest priority;
1) Renovation of the mammography waiting area in the Imaging Dept. – making it more attractive, comfortable and secure for patients waiting for this screening.
2) TV’s for patient rooms in the Women’s Center – upgraded televisions, for use with patient
education and information.
3) Patient lifts at both the SMG Clinic and Lakeview Hospital – allows for purchase rather than renting
equipment that is in great demand at both the hospital and clinic.
4) Laerdal Sim Man - Universal Patient Simulator for use in training ED and EMS staff – this valuable
piece of equipment is a portable and advanced patient simulator for training of individual
health care professionals and health care professional teams. SimMan has realistic anatomy and
clinical functionality and provides simulation-based education to challenge and test clinical and
decision-making skills during realistic patient care scenarios.
