Shannon Deaton Minister of Music/Education 704-698-5318 Rev. Mark Navey Minister of Children & Students 980-269-4239 Dr. Donnie Gamble Senior Adult Minister 704-219-0726 Mark is a Boy Scout leader. One summer he took his troop out west on an extended camping trip. When they reached the grand Canyon the group spent several hours scanning the sights from the rim. As if on cue, the entire group voiced their desire to move on. Mark was confused and frustrated. He thought this would be the highlight of their trip. The plan was to spend several days there. So he drove on pondering the boys’ mild reaction. Then they came to Zion Canyon. But this time Mark drove to the bottom of the canyon. He was surprised by their reaction. They begged to stop and get out and explore. They pleaded with him to let them camp there for several days. What made the difference between the Grand Canyon and Zion Canyon? Position. Position makes all the difference in the world. At the Grand Canyon they were looking down. At Zion Canyon they were looking up. That’s how it is with worship. Man is a created being. He is designed to look up to his creator. When he only looks down, he gets the idea that he is at the highest point. Worship happens when we begin to look up to the face of God with adoration and praise. When we have the proper perspective we are free to worship Him as we should. Remember—the shepherd loves the sheep and I do too! Worshipping Him, Steve The North Carolina Missions Offering helps spread the gospel through a variety of ministries. As the culture changes, it is no longer possible for Christians to pretend that we are a moral majority. That may be bad news for America, but it can be good news for the church. Nominal Christianity isn’t working anymore. What’s needed now is neither a doubling-down on the status quo nor a retreat into isolation. Instead we need a church that speaks to social and political issues with a bigger vision in mind; that of the gospel of Jesus Christ. As Christianity seems increasingly strange—and even subversive- to our culture, it’s time to embrace the distinctiveness of the Christian faith and to be marginalized for the sake of the gospel. Join us for this six-session Bible study.
