Monroe, NC 28110 704-219-0638 Gary & Cathey Kennett 5506 Burning Ridge Dr. Monroe, NC 28110 704-201-7153 Dear Friends, As we move into the July Fourth holiday, freedom shouts loudly in the hearts and minds of many Americans. Our country is known for its various freedoms and our history is replete with the names of those who gave their lives for the freedom we and others enjoy. While freedom comes at a cost, complete freedom also comes at a cost. Our family fathers never called for freedom without restraint. They understood that this would lead to corporate anarchy and personal enslavement to passions. What they sought was freedom within the bounds of discipline. They knew that true freedom can be found in an agreement to abide within the guidelines prescribed by our constitution. So too, we as Christians recognize that true freedom comes from living within the bounds of our constitution - the Holy Word of God. Jesus said, ‘you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.” (John 8:32) Jesus is the truth and it is only by adhering to the disciplines found in His word that we can avoid the captivity that our natural nature will bring. We must refrain from fighting against the protective fence God has placed in our lives. When we live freely within the large garden of God’s great blessing we find true freedom from the chains that sinful behavior brings. Remember - the Shepherd loves the sheep and I do too! Free in Christ, Steve As we celebrate our independence this 4th of July, let us not forget to pray for our service people who are fighting for this freedom on a daily basis. Please remember not only these men and women of our armed forces but also their families who are giving the ultimate sacrifice, their family. May God bless you all and have a great 4th of July! WOW!!!! What a GREAT WEEK At VBS We had a great week at Bible School and we hope each child took some great lessons home with them and will continue to be learning and studying God’s Word each day. As the culture changes, it is no longer possible for Christians to pretend that we are a moral majority. That may be bad news for America, but it can be good news for the church. Nominal Christianity isn’t working anymore. What’s needed now is neither a doubling-down on the status quo nor a retreat into isolation. Instead we need a church that speaks to social and political issues with a bigger vision in mind; that of the gospel of Jesus Christ. As Christianity seems increasingly strange—and even subversive- to our culture, it’s time to embrace the distinctiveness of the Christian faith and to be marginalized for the sake of the gospel. Join us for this six-session Bible study.
