Caution
We are so excited to see your
creation! As the artist -in-charge,
be sure that you and others
helping read the following tips to
ensure the overall safety of your
child and the DOC Ba nd ® :
Only use materials that are
labeled “child safe”.
Always keep the inner foam liner
free from any paint or materials
by placing a towel inside and
taping off the edges.
Be cautious of harmful fumes
certain decorating products
produce.
Do not sand the outside of the
band as it could reduce holding
pressures.
Be aware that adding attachments
( e.g., bows) could pose a choking
hazard if they fall off.
Do not attempt to paint or
decorate underneath the strap or
chafe and loop. This can put
undue stress on the rivets,
possibly causing them to break.
Your DOC Band
Decor ating Too l k i t
Whether you’re new to the arts
and crafts scene or a seasoned
pro, here are some child-safe
options for decking out your
DOC Band:
Adhesives Ideas:
Stickers (scrapbookin g stickers,
r ub-on transfers)
Decals
Stickers, rub-on transfers and
decals are popular decorating
materials. After applying them to
the outside plastic shell, use
several coats of ModPodge to seal.
You may also have to re-apply the
ModPodge sealant weekly to
maintain the design.
You will be able to frequently
change the stickers whether you
use ModPodge or not. In order to
get the stickers off the band, you
may try using a small amount of
nail polish remover containing
acetone in order to break down the
glue on the sticker.
W hen is the best time to
unleash your inner
Rembr andt?
The time “off” during initial skin
checks and during the one hour
break for bathing are really the
best times.
Working on your masterpiece in
small stages (paint one day,
stickers the next) can also be a
great way to ensure that materials
have time to dry and your baby
doesn’t miss any valuable growth
time.
To help your artwork dry faster,
please do not apply any type of
heat, as it could compromise the
DOC Band. Instead, a safe option
is to place your little one’s DOC
Band in front of a fan on the “low”
setting.
Paint & Sealant Options:
Acrylic Paint (Folk Art ® , Apple
Barrel ® brands)
Water-based latex paints
Paint markers/pens (Painters ® ,
DecoColor Opaque ® )
ModPodge

online or in our centers simply

safety of their work.
If you do find a talented artist or
are going to tap your inner

the safety of your child and the

DOC Band
Replacemen t
Decorating is a fun and creative
way to help your family through
the DOC Band process. Just
remember that the primary
purpose of the DOC Band is to
help your child achieve a
corrected head shape. If
decorating mater ials or
processes compromise the DOC
Band’s ability to do this, the
replacement cost is the parents’
responsibility.
At any point, feel free to contact
your CranialTech clinic with
questions about decorating
materials.
