President’s Message As we all sat riveted to our television sets during the London Olympics, we shared in the amazing journey of our Olympians. Their achievements and efforts have inspired a genera on of athletes, coaches, judges and clubs and our sport is feeling a renewed excitement as we enter our 2012‐2013 season. It was a fi ng conclusion to a very successful and produc ve year for the federa on and all its members. As you read through the pages of this Annual Report, I know you will share our pride in our gymnas cs communi‐
ty and the accomplishments we have achieved through true partnerships. At the 2010 Annual General Mee ng, our clubs came together to introduce a strategy for bringing financial stability to the federa on. The staff of Gymnas cs Ontario, your Board of Directors, your Technical Commi ees, our judging community, and our clubs hos ng compe ons took your commitment to heart and worked together to turn our financial situa on around. We understood that your willingness to commit an addi onal $2 per member to the future of our sport, needed to culminate in results. And you will see by the significant surplus that we achieved and the growth and stability in our reserve funds, that the en re community rose to the challenge to re‐set our path. On behalf of the Board of Directors and staff of Gymnas cs Ontario, I offer my whole hearted thanks. I am so very proud to be a member of this federa on. 2012 London Olympians Rhythmic Gymnastics
The big moment finally arrived as the Senior Group and coaches, Svetlana Joukova and Zdravka
Tzonkova made their Summer Olympic debute. The team had been training in Spain for majority of
July and traveled directly to London before the RG event begins on August 9th 2012. The first ever
Canadian Senior Group to attend the Olympics games finished in 11th place and showed off their
beautifully dynamic and intricate routines on Aug. 9th and 10th to a welcoming audience in the
Wembley Arena. The team scored 24.050 for their ball routine and a total of 23.975 for their hoop
and ribbon routine. Congratulation to the athlete, coaches, their families and friends and all
supporting individuals who cheered them on from their computers and television sets! You made us
so proud to have reached the highest caliber of the sport of Rhythmic Gymnastics!
Team Members included:
Head Coach – Svetlana Joukava
Assistant Coach – Zdravka Tchonkova
Athletes:
Anastasiya Muntyanu
Kelsey Titmarsh
Rose Cossar
Alexandra Landry
Katrina Cameron
Anjelika Reznik
Women’s Artisitc
Five gymnasts qualified for the women’s Olympic team, and three of them are from Ontario! Threetime Canadian all around champion Kristina Vaculik of Whitby, Ont., topped the 11 finalists in the
running for an Olympic berth. Also qualifying for Canada’s first full team in women’s gymnastics
since the 2004 Olympics were Victoria Moors of Cambridge, Ont., Brittany Rogers of Coquitlam,
B.C., Dominique Pegg of Sarnia, Ont., and Ellie Black of Halifax. Jessica Savona of Oakville, Ont.,
and Madeline Gardiner of Cambridge, Ont., were named first and second reserve athletes
respectively.
Our 2012 London Olympians finished fifth with the best performance in a non boycotted Olympics
by Team Canada. 5
London 2012 Olympics Trampoline
Jason Burnett won a silver medal at the 2004 Beijing Olympics after competing the most
difficult routine of the competition. Known for pushing the limits in difficulty, Jason
continues to compete the most difficult routines in Men’s Individual Trampoline. In January,
at the 2012 Gymnastics Olympic Test Event, Jason finished fourth and qualified to compete
at the London 2012 Olympics where he represented Canada yet again. Jason finished 8th in
the men’s competition at the London Games.
Karen Cockburn is one of Ontario’s treasures. Karen has stood on the podium for trampoline
at THREE olympics – Bronze at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, Silver at the 2004 Athens
Olympics, and Silver at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. She had the honour to carry the
Canadian flag at the closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympic Games. London was her
FOUTH Olympics. Karen had a remarkable competition in London and we are so very proud
of her.
Rosannagh (Rosie) MacLennan qualified for London at the 2011 Trampoline World
Championships in Birmingham, when she won Silver. London was her second Olympics. At
the 2008 Beijing Olympics she represented Canada and placed 7th. In 2011, Rosie won Gold
at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. Paired with Karen Cockburn, she also
competes the synchronized trampoline.
In London this summer Rosie brought home the only Gold medal for Canada with her
amazing routine in the Women’s Individual Trampoline. 6

Athlete Development CANGYM Program
The CANGYM Program binder is bilingual and comes complete with 5 distinct badge description sections
outlining the skills in each level, and also includes original Participant Evaluation Forms and Progress
Reports, along with Certificates of Participation and Completion that can be given to the participants. In
addition, the CANGYM program includes a selection of Sample Coach’s comments and Routines which
coaches can utilize near the end of the term. This program can be adapted to a wide variety of age groups
and abilities, and, paired with an enthusiastic coaching staff will help your club develop skilled and
confident gymnasts.
The second edition of the CANGYM – ARTISTIC is endorsed by Olympic Champion Kyle Shewfelt.
Based on the CANGYM badge sales Gymnastics Ontario can determine that the majority of Ontario based
gymnastics clubs are utilizing and have adopted this program. Currently the CANGYM badge program is
being reviewed to include a Rhythmic Gymnastics as has been done with Trampoline sports who currently
utilize the CANJUMP program.
HIGH FIVE PROGRAM
Gymnastics Ontario also supports, delivers and encourages accrediting clubs as HIGH FIVE. HIGH FIVE is a
comprehensive quality assurance standard for children`s sport and recreation programs for children aged 6
to 12. In this past year Gymnastics Ontario offered and facilitated a HIGH FIVE course in conjunction with
our Technical Congress to certify 12 coaches.
I LOVE GYMNASTICS WEEK
Gymnastics Ontario supports and promotes I Love Gymnastics Week which is now a National initiative that
sees clubs across the country participating in demonstrations from inside their clubs to malls and in some
cases taking gymnastics to the streets. The event has received proclamation by Mayors across Ontario
yearly and supports the promotion of a fun environment for gymnasts of all ages to demonstrate their
ability and commitment to programs. Some of the group demonstrations from I Love Gymnastics Week will
move on to Canadian Gymnaestrada and in some cases to the World Gymnaestrada. Ontario’s Rhythmic
gymnastics clubs are the largest promoters of these events given their pre alignment to group routines.
The scope of adoption for these programs and events vary. The masters and invitational competitions see
over 67% of our member clubs participating which is a great number committed to the development of lifelong gymnastics skills.

Coach Development COACH EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES
This season Gymnastics Ontario effectively hosted 149 NCCP coaching courses with over
2,600 coaches participating. Over 40 different clubs located across the province have hosted
NCCP courses this past year and we would like to thank all the clubs who helped to make
these courses a tremendous success. To thank the clubs for their commitment, Gymnastics
Ontario reinvested over $30,000 back into member clubs who hosted NCCP courses through
rental fees and complimentary participant registrations.
Gymnastics Ontario continues to work with the outlying areas of Ontario to organize NCCP
courses, we appreciate and understand the challenges of these areas and are constantly
trying to come up with unique and cost effective ways to offer as many courses as are
required.
We are re-investing in coaching through our annual “Coaching for Coaches” conference and
new initiatives for coach retention and education through the Education Committee Advisory
Group.
FOUNDATIONS PROGRAM
Foundations Program is continuing to be a tremendous success. With over 130 Foundations
Courses, over 1500 coaches participated in Foundations Artistic, Trampoline and Rhythmic
disciplines.
LEARNING FACILITATOR TRAINING
Due to a high demand for Foundations courses and in order to supply more courses to the
membership, Gymnastics Ontario has selected eleven more candidates who were trained to
become Foundations Learning Facilitator.
We would like to thank all the Learning Facilitators for their time and dedication in preparing
and delivering the courses across the Province.

previously shown at the bottom of this statement has been moved to a new
statement called the “Statement of Net Assets”
Statement of Net Assets – this is a new statement that reconciles the Net Asset position in total and also shows the transfer of the $1.00 per participant special assessment fee from “unrestricted net assets” to “internally restricted net
assets”
The purpose for these changes was to meet the requirement of the motion at
Gymnastics Ontario’s AGM in 2010 when the $2.00 special assessment fee was
approved. The motion required that $1.00 be internally restricted to help
Gymnastics Ontario (GO) rebuild its net asset reserves after the difficult year
experienced in 2009-2010.
This disclosure has been approved by the board and is an accepted disclosure for
non-profit organizations. It assists to inform readers of the purpose of building the
net asset reserves which otherwise would not be shown in the financial statements.
This disclosure will be expanded in 2013 to reflect a new financial policy established
to inform readers of GO statements that there is a minimum level of net assets
(and of cash balances) necessary to meet the needs of the organization and protect
it against any unforeseen reduction in fees in the future. This will be explained in
detail at the plenary of the AGM of 2012.
Sincerely,
Barbara A. Bergeron, CA, and Treasurer for Gymnastics Ontario
