to becoming a
college athlete!
First of all, you need to get good grades.
Blaine got honor roll a few times, took part in
science and math fairs, and even won the
spelling bees a few times! You also need to get
good grades in high school, some colleges won’t
accept you if you don’t get good enough
grades. Second of all, you need to be a good
leader, especially in team sports. You need to
have a good personality, a good character,
and have a good attitude. Third, it would help
greatly if you played sports as a kid. Blaine
played baseball, football, and basketball when
he was a kid. They helped Blaine have a love for
the game. Off the field, you have other
responsibilities, like keeping your grades up and
getting ready to graduate. On the field, you
have responsibilities, too! You need to be a
leader for the team and
prepare the team for
games.
5 Questions With Emma by Emma LeBouef
This fall, I interviewed
Madame Gulliot, the
school’s
favorite
French
teacher.
She was interrogated
on her job, school,
and her after school
life. She said that she
loved how the school
works together to
accomplish more and how
her students are
always
doing their best work. She
also said that the animal
unit in French is her favorite
because of all of the fun
activities that come with it.
Some of her after school
activities are
swimming,
zydeco
dancing,
and
working in her yard. She
also said if she wasn’t
a French teacher she
would want to be a
theology
teacher!
That’s it for this time on

Food News by Zahara Bruun
Zahara Bruun here with your Food News. I’m
here to talk to you about the Plantation
Elementary school food. I have gone around
school asking a lot of questions and have got
some great
answers. One question was “If you
could change anything about the school lunch
what would you change?” the
answer I got
was, “The drink
selection, so that we could
have water,
Gatorade,-etc.” –anonymous.
Here is another
question. “Have you found
rotten, uncooked, or overcooked food in the
school lunch?” an
answer was “No, because
everything is cooked just oddly cooked.”anonymous. How about one more question? Ok
the Question is, “Would you like
bigger
portions?” the answer is “If the food was good I
would
like
bigger
portions.”-anonymous.
What great answers, don’t you think? Well even
if you said no that was the Food News .
Entertainment 101: Minecraft by Brianna Greer
Are you a gamer? Are you tired of the games you
play now? Do you want a new game to play? If you
said “yes” to any of these, then you’re reading the
right article!
Today, I will be reviewing Minecraft, a popular
game to about 8 million gamers all around the world. I
interviewed many students to get some answers.
Minecraft is a pixilated computer game for all ages.
Once you spawn, you need to cut down trees to make
a shelter before night comes and monsters, like
zombies, skeleton archers, and giant spiders, try to kill
you. Gabe, from Mrs. Brousard’s 5th grade GT class,
said, “It’s the perfect mix between a RPG
(roleplaying game) and a crafting game.”
Aaron, from Gabe’s class, said, “It is also a
good game to teach the player how to survive
in real life.” However you may not like it as
much as Gabe and Aaron do, like Alex, from
Mrs. Smith‘s 5th grade class. He said, “I don’t like
Minecraft.” Hopefully you’re not like Alex and
you like it. Enjoy the game!
Social Studies and Science are Important by Jay Colon
Do you wonder why social
studies and science are
important? I’m going to tell you
why.
Captain Santos Colon ,
captain of the boat “Sea
Legend”, says that he deals with
more science than social
studies. He uses social studies
because on his boat he has
people
with
different
backgrounds, culture, and
needs. Many jobs deal with
varieties of people or clients.
Although he did not have to get
a degree in social studies,
science does apply in his job. He
uses science in many forms and
ways, as in using a sonar radar
called ARPA. He also navigates
by the stars, and checks the
weather conditions by looking at
the clouds.
So that’s why social studies
and science are important.

Book Review: Science Fair by William Roche
Do you wonder if a couple of
science fair projects might destroy
the U.S.A.? In the book, Science
Fair, written by Dave Barry and
Ridley Pearson, you might get a
chance to find out.
The main character in the
story is Toby Harbinger. Toby is a
middle schooler at Hubble
Middle in Maryland. He tries to
disable the projects that could
ruin the world. The problem Toby is
facing is that someone is trying to
get the ME kids to get projects
that could ruin the U.S.A. If you’re
wondering who the ME kids are,
they are the spoiled rich kids who
get whatever they want.
Toby faces the problem
by breaking out of prison
with his friends, and goes to
the Hubble Middle Science
fair. He meets Sternabite,
the guy who works at
Science Nook, who agrees
to help him try to find the
guy who is trying to ruin the
country.
Read this book and find
out if Toby and Sternabite
save the U.S.A.!
Gatorade Vs. Water by McKenna Miller
Have you ever wondered if
you should bring Gatorade or
water to your sport practice?
Well, I’m going to tell you direct
quotes from doctors to regular
kids that play sports.
The first question I asked was
“Which one is better for the
body?” First I took a quote from a
doctor, Thomas Brantly Arnau.
“Water, because the body only
needs water for hydration.’’ Then
I asked a kid gymnast, Morgan
Weathers. She replied, “Water [is
better] because it is healthy and
pure.’’
The second question I asked
the same doctor, who is also a
tennis player, “Which one do you
use the most while you
exercise?’’ He responded,
‘’Water because it hydrates
me.’’ I also asked a kid sports
player, William Roche. “I use
water [the most] when I
exercise.’’
The third question I asked was
“Would it be smart to mix the
two?’’ The same doctor replied,
“Yes, because you could get the
electrolytes from the Gatorade
and you could get hydrated
from the water.” I also asked a
kid soccer player, Jahzaiah
“Jay” Colon. He said, “Yes,
because it takes away the
sweetness from the Gatorade.”
Now that you know this
information, try to take it into
consideration the next time you
exercise!!!!

All About Gymnastics!
By: Morgan Weathers
The head gymnastics coach at Gymnastics Southwest by the name of Frank Tardo was interviewed about his sport,
GYMNASTICS!!!
When asked about the safety of the sport, he replied, “If it’s done correctly, yes. But if it isn’t taught correctly, no, it is very
dangerous.” He said that there is no danger whatsoever with his gym. “…Not Gymnastics Southwest.” he replied. In case of a
serious accident, he said that they had plenty of supplies. “… and we could call 911.” he said.
Lots of people have TONS of homework, so I asked him how much time the different levels of gymnasts spend in the gym.
These are the times per week:
Level 0: 1 hour a week
Levels 4-6: 10 hours + a week
Level 1: 2 hours a week
Levels 7-10+: 30 hours + a week
Levels 2-3: 4-8 hours a week
In relation to that matter, I asked if people in extracurricular activities, dance, for example, that were competing in
gymnastics would have to quit the other activity in order to continue competing. He said, “[You] never have to quit until you
think that it interferes with your schedule…” And obviously, you’ll have to make a choice. Which one do you love more? This
can make your decision for you. Otherwise, you can do both sports/activities.
Although my coach, Coach Frank, may be an excellent coach, he won’t be teaching all of the gymnasts. This may worry
some people. But he has other trustworthy coaches under him, such as Coach Mandi, who instruct the gymnasts when he isn’t
instructing.
Even after all of this, you may still wonder what is so good about doing gymnastics. If this is so, then boy, I’ve got some
reasons for you! Tardo said, “[People] should do gymnastics because it builds flexibility, strength, agility, coordination,
discipline, and it is the basics of all sports.” I bet that is more than you thought !
So yes, it is more than just a way to get in shape, or lose weight.
GO TWISTERS!!!!   
