This Summer J UNE 25 — J ULY 8, 2006 Gymnastics N ATIONAL G YMNASTICS T RAINING C AMP Go Way Beyond The Routine! YMCA Camping Services of Greater New York A Perfect Summer Top Leaders Are in Charge For Any Young Gymnast The National Gymnastics Training Camp is the perfect summer experience for girls 9 to 17—both beginners and experienced competitors—who want to explore or develop their gymnastics potential. But there’s more at our Camp. We provide a well-rounded experience that includes an emphasis on values, making friends, trying new activities and growing. What a Site! JOHN LAVALLEE ASSISTANT WOMEN’S COACH YALE UNIVERSITY Head coach/director of Sterling Gymnastics in Massachussetts for 11 years. [email protected] Our Camp is located on 1,000 acres of lakes and mountains, just 90 minutes north of New York City. The centerpiece is our Sports Center, the site of USA regional and state championships. We have hosted the National YMCA Championships and the Center is home to national workshops all run by USA Gymnastics. Great Instructors, Great Role Models Our staff is made up of successful coaches and experienced gymnasts from around the nation. Many of them return year after year. They take a great interest in how each gymnast develops day by day, year by year. Nothing is more important to our staff than safety. We screen all gymnasts and group them according to ability. With 25 teaching stations, each gymnast has her instructor’s full attention. Learn Fast, Learn Right TONY RETROSI ASSISTANT DIRECTOR 22 years on staff Owner and Head Coach Atlantic Gymnastics Training Center, Portsmouth and Dover, NH [email protected] Gymnasts progress quickly at the Camp; there are never more than seven girls to an instructor. Each day, gymnasts rotate through the four Olympic events and dance, then practice skills during evening open workouts. An entire team and its coaches can come to the Camp to work with our staff on the team’s particular needs. Teams that have trained with us include: Flippers Gymnastics, Garland, TX; Daggetts Gymnastics, Agawam, MA; Bright Raven Gymnastics, Rochester, NY; Cherry Lane Gymnastics Center, New Hyde Park, NY; Atlantic Gymnastics, Portsmouth, NH; and many high school and YMCA teams. Coaches who are interested in enrolling their teams at the Camp should contact us for rates. High school teams can get a jump on their seasons with instruction from our coaching and judging staff. Learn new skills and routine construction based on the FIG Code of Points. We’ll help you develop routines for all events. Everything a Gymnast Needs At the heart of our facility is the spacious, fully-equipped Sports Center. It has a Sport Court floor and everything is enclosed by 10-foot-high, sliding Plexiglas windows. Our gymnasts train on the latest official Olympic equipment that accommodates even the elite gymnast. There are six sets of uneven bars, 14 balance beams, 3 vaulting stations – including one with a Resi-landing, two spring floors and 2 Tumble Traks. The Sports Center also features a training room with whirlpool and treatment table, and a fitness room. Trainers and medical attention are available around the clock. Accommodations are modern chaletstyle lodges. The dining hall serves a buffet at every meal, including a full salad bar with lunch and dinner. Play Hard or Take It Easy Our recreational facilities are perfect, too. There’s canoeing, rowing, fishing and swimming. Climbing on our indoor climbing wall. Hiking on miles of trails. Tennis, volleyball and softball. We even have a lakeside canteen and sun deck where gymnasts can relax with a snack and beverage. At night, there are contests, talent shows, movies and other activities. “ It is a great feeling knowing that my daughter can learn gymnastics in a fun and safe environment.” PENNY OSBORNE OUR MISSION The YMCA of Greater New York is a community service organization which promotes positive values through programs that build spirit, mind and body, welcoming all people, with a focus on youth.
