Page 1 January 2015 Volume 9 , Number 1 DOTSON MAKES FORBES LIST Former Sooner defensive lineman Alonzo Dotson has been named to the Forbes Sports 30 Under 30 list. Dotson is currently a college scout for the Green Bay Packers. He recently oversaw defensive quality control at the University of Houston. During his time at OU, Dotson helped the Sooners to appearances in four BCS bowl games. BOSWORTH NAMED TO COLLEGE FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME Former Sooner standout Brian Bosworth will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as part of the 2015 class. Bosworth was a two-time consensus first team All-America selection and Butkus Award winner. “The Boz,” as he is known to Sooner fans, played in the NFL for three seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. The induction ceremony will take place in December in New York City. Page 2 January 2015 Volume 9 , Number 1 WOMEN’S GYMNASTICS SEASON PREVIEW After finishing the season last year with the national title, the Oklahoma women’s gymnastics squad opened the season with the sweep of the Arkansas Razorbacks in its first meet of the year and followed that with a big road win over Minnesota. The number 1 ranked Sooners will host two home meets against LSU and Southeast Missouri on January 23 and 2014’s co-champions, the Florida Gators, on March 6. Oklahoma will also be hosting the NCAA Norman Regional on April 4. Among the returnees from last year’s championship squad are Haley Scaman, who was awarded Big 12 Gymnast of the week for winning two event titles against Arkansas, and is currently ranked No. 1 nationally for floor exercise and No. 2 on the vault and McKenzie Wofford, who was named Big 12 Specialist of the week and earned a score of 9.95 on uneven bars against Arkansas. She is also currently ranked fourth on uneven bars nationally. A newcomer, Ali Jackson, was named Big 12 Newcomer of the week after placing second on floor exercise and vault. She is currently ranked sixth nationally for both floor exercise and vault. Page 3 January 2015 Volume 9 , Number 1 MEN’S GYMNASTICS SEASON PREVIEW The Oklahoma men’s gymnastics team is gearing up for a successful 2015 season. After placing second in last year’s NCAA Championships, the team is determined to get the ninth national title for OU. All of the Sooners’ All-Americans from last year will be returning this season including senior Alec Robin, who won the individual national titles for vault and floor exercise. Senior Mike Squires has won two consecutive individual national titles for the rings. The 2015 men’s gymnastics squad opened with a win in the Rocky Mountain Open. Coach Mark Williams selected to be inducted into the 2015 USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame along with eight other inductees. Under Coach Williams, the Sooners have captured five national titles since 2000. He was also selected the head coach for team USA’s Squad who competed at last year’s World Championships. Oklahoma will be hosting three home meets -- February 14 against Michigan, February 27 against Illinois, and March 14 against Ohio State. The Sooners will also host this year’s NCAA Championships on April 9-11.. Mark your calendar for April 9-11, 2015, as the reunion will be held in conjunction with the 2015 NCAA Men’s Gymnastics National Championships. There will also be a special recognition for the 10-year anniversary of the 2005 National Championship team.
